Audrey W. Myers
Audrey W. Myers, 71, of Speedwell, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Feb. 24, at 2:30 p.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence. Interment was in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
Born Aug. 16, 1925, at Ivanhoe to Edd and Mary Waller, she was the widow of Joe K. Myers.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Sandra Myers of the home, and Joe Mack and Georgia Myers of Galax; a brother, John Waller of Elk Creek; two sisters, Ella Roosevelt Dooley of Speedwell, and Dorothy Louise Jones of Wytheville (The Piney Community); three grandsons, Anthony Myers, Jonathan Myers, both of the home, and Boyd Grose Jr. of Galax; two granddaughters, Vicki Grose, and Jeanette Grose, both of Galax; and six great-grandchildren, four nieces and four nephews.
Flowers will be appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to Wythe County Rescue Squad.

James Kyle Shupe
James Kyle Shupe, 80, of Fries, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Tazz Reid. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorial services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 8:30 p.m. by Dixie Masonic Lodge No. 202 A.F. & A.M. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel.
He was the son of the late Orville and Lizzie Byrd Shupe. He was a member of Dixie Masonic Lodge No. 202 A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Jones Shupe.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Larry Sr. and Susan Shupe of Wytheville; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Roger Atkins of Roanoke; a sister, Virginia Martin of Fries; two brothers, Clarence Shupe, and Dewey Shupe, both of Fries; four grandchildren and spouses, Larry Jr. and Heidi Shupe of Wytheville, Vonda and David Hutchison of Christiansburg, Valarie and Mark Williams of Rural Retreat, and Michael Atkins of Blacksburg; and three great-grandchildren, Joshua Shupe, Kayla Williams, and Bolton Hutchison.

Anne Carroll Sims, 77, of Houston, Texas, died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, in Houston.
Funeral services and burial were held on Monday, Feb. 24, in Houston.
She was the widow of Claude Morrison Sims, who was manager of J.J. Newberry Co. in Wytheville for several years.
She is survived by three daughters, Harriet Morris of 6106 Larkmount, Spring, Texas, 77389, Judy Masengill, and Susan Orr; and a son, Claude Morrison Sims Jr.
William David Tolbert Sr.
William David Tolbert Sr., 66, of Hedgefield Apartments, Wytheville, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, in the Eldercare Nursing Home in Farmville.
Graveside services and interment will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Bland cemetery with Pastor Larry Ramey officiating.
He was born in Bland County, a son of the late Clarence William and Kim Havens Tolbert.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Diane Abshire.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Sue Pickett of Waynesboro, and Gail Louise Adcock of Richmond; five sons, William David Tolbert Jr. of Baltimore, Md., Clarence Cody Tolbert, John Mark Tolbert, Frankie Lee Tolbert, all of Bruckville, and Donald Earl Tolbert of Powhatan; three sisters, Peggy Ann Hall of Bastian, Nellie Mae Atwell of Rocky Gap, and Betty Joyce Edwards of Baltimore, Md.; three brothers, Willie Scott Tolbert of Bland, Ronnie Lee Tolbert of Bedford, and Billie Ray Tolbert of Baltimore, Md.; and 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Irvin E. Blankenship
Irvin E. Blankenship, 81, of Wytheville, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, in the Birdmont Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Newberry Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Michael Wingard and the Rev. Joe Taylor officiating. Interment followed in the Mechanicsburg cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the American Legion Post No. 9.
He was born in Bland County, a son of the late Vaden and Annie Thomas Blankenship. He was a member of the Wytheville Presbyterian Church, a U.S. Army veteran of Word War II, where he served as Staff Sgt. with Ordnance Company in Germany and France, and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 9. He was a retired employee of the General Motors Corporation with 24 years of service.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold T. Blankenship.
Survivors include his wife, June Durham Blankenship of the home; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Judy Harman and J.W. Cassell of Bland, and Linda Harman and John Newberry of Wytheville; five step-granddaughters, one step-grandson, five step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Edwin F. Blankenship of Roanoke; a special aunt, Lula Mitchell Blankenship of Bland; a special cousin, Genevieve and Wayne Richardson of Bland; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul Cook, 70, of Route 2, (Sheeptown Community) Austinville, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, at 1 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel in Austinville with Rev. Tommy Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany cemetery.
He was born in Carroll County, a son of the late James and Della Lawson Cook, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Berlin Cook; and a sister, Magdeline Cook.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Mae Cook of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine Cook of Austinville, Sharon and Lance Colkmire, and Phyllis and James Anderson, all of Cleveland, Tenn.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Dorothy Cook of Galax, Dale Cook of Christiansburg, and Eddie Cook of Max Meadows; two sisters, Lucille Welch of Baltimore, Md., and Stella Blessing of Milford, Del.; three brothers, Donald Cook, Sherman Cook, and Douglas Cook, all of Baltimore, Md.; and eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Wesley L. "Peanut" Davis, 62, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Austinville, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, in Florida.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Lucy Davis; and a sister, Ellen Shockley.
Survivors include two sons, Jamie Davis and Wesley Davis Jr., both of Florida; one daughter, Pamela Davis of Florida; one sister, Anita Adams of Austinville; and two brothers, Caudell Davis of Austinville, and Carlton Davis of Arkansas.

Pearl Ruby Lineburg
Pearl Ruby Lineburg, 89, of Charlotte, N.C., died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, in Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.
Private funeral services were held in Mount Hebron cemetery in Winchester.
A native of Crockett, formerly of Newport News, she was a self-employed poet and songwriter. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church in Newport News.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mervil Lineburg.
Survivors include her two daughters, Edna Sumner of Fairfield, and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick of Vinton; a granddaughter, Beverly Eichel of Monroe, N.C.; and a great-granddaughter, Laura Lodge of Omaha, Neb.

Emory Harold Sage, 72, of Radford, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, in Greenville, N.C.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Pastor Jerry Gibson and Rev. Tony Gurganus officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. Masonic graveside rites were conducted by the VA May Lodge No. 38 A.F. & A.M.
He retired from the purchasing department at Hercules with 26 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VA May Masonic Lodge No. 38 A.F. & A.M.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Marshall Sage.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Sonny Dodson of Orange, and Judith and Dennis McCoy of Winterville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Tyler Andrew Dodson, Laura Elizabeth McCoy, and Jason Bradley McCoy; and a sister and a brother-in-law, Maxine and Harold Miller of Wytheville.

Charles A. Steffey, 69, of Rural Retreat, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Fairview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rance Edwards and the Rev. Michael Hoyle officiating. Interment followed in the Fairview United Methodist Church cemetery.
He was born in Rural Retreat, the son of the late Charles Clinton and Lillie Mae Lundy Steffey, and was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, (The Rural Retreat Circuit) and the Rural Retreat Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Dall Steffey.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Katherine Boye of Kingsport, Tenn., and Ruby Paxon of Chesapeake; a special nephew, John Hartle of Marion, Ohio; and three special caregivers, Juanita Lethco, Ursula Stedham, and Arthur Pete Mabe.

Sanford S. Worley, 82, of Bristol, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a farmer and lifelong resident of Washington County. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Pine Hill Church.
He is survived by his wife, Luease Worley of Bristol; two daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Chip Wright of Wytheville, Carl Anders of Bristol, and Judy Mason of Bristol; two sons, Bud Worley, and Steve Worley, both of Bristol; four sisters, Eller McCroskey of Bristol, Viola Anders of Bristol, Tenn., Blender Thomas of York, Pa., and Eula Mae Hall of Norfolk; and two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Frances N. LaPhew Alexander of Rockville, Md., died Saturday, March 1, 1997, at her residence.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at the Millian Memorial United Methodist Church, Parkland and Grenoble Drive, Rockville, Md. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 5, at 3 p.m. at the LaPhew Family cemetery, in the Stumps section of Wythe County.
She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Guy and Lizzie Blanche Smith LaPhew.
She is survived by her husband, Silas Alexander of home; two daughters, Gloria Jean DeNinno, and Patricia Gjerulff; a son, James Alexander; seven grandchildren, Stephen, Kristen, Jennifer, Matthew, Adam, Joshua and Zachary; and five great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Alexander, Shawn, Stephen and Anthony.
