Millie Frye Poole, 62, of Route 3, Wytheville, the Piney Community, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Joe Carrico. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
She was a daughter of the late Stephen and Virgie Dunford Frye.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. "Bill" Poole; and two sisters, Effie Lindamood, and Beauty Groseclose; and a brother, Roy Frye.
Survivors include three daughters, Kay Poole, Robin Poole, and Beth Ann Poole, all of Wytheville; one sister, Audrey Reynolds of Wytheville; two brothers, Thomas D. Frye, and Stephen G. Frye, both of Wytheville; two grandchildren, Whitney Richardson, and Jordan Richardson, both of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Beatrice Moses Spencer
Beatrice Moses Spencer, 76, of Route 2, Max Meadows, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Poplar Camp Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Larry Barnes, the Rev. Gary Vernon and the Rev. Dale Akers officiating. Interment will follow in the Spencer Family cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to service time.
She was born in West Virginia, a daughter of the late Kelly and Lucy Goad Moses. She was a member of the Poplar Camp Church of God of Prophecy for more than 35 years and she did private duty home health care.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Spencer; and four brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Early F. Spencer of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Freeman of Route 2, Max Meadows; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Penny Spencer of Route 1, Austinville, and Michael and Anesha Spencer of Route 2, Max Meadows; two granddaughters and a spouse, Candace Beatrice Freeman, and Kimberly Freeman and Wayne Nelson; three grandsons, David Scott Freeman, Terry Franklin Spencer and Paul Kevin Spencer; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua Ford, Christopher Spencer, Amber Rae Spencer, Trevor Spencer, Ashley Nelson, Lauren-Shey Beatrice Midkiff and Spencer Thomas Midkiff; and two sisters, Rosa Burnett of Elliston and Gladys Higgins of Highland Springs.

Teresa Sue Tweedy, 32, of Bastian, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, in the St. Luke's Hospital.
Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 5, at 1 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel in Bland with the Rev. Rick Methena officiating. Interment will follow in the Morning Star cemetery in Bland.
She attended Hollybrook Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Anderson Tweedy Sr. of the home; a son, Charles Anderson Tweedy II of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Hayes of Tazewell; and her grandmother, Beulah Hayes of Tazewell.

Erma Hounshell Warden, 95, of Route 4, Wytheville, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. in the New Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clayton Hounshell and the Rev. Donald Drake officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
She was the daughter of the late Harvey C. and Ella Copenhaver Hounshell. She was a member of the New Bethel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin E. Warden; a son, Raymond Warden; a son-in-law, William F. Moore; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances W. Moore of Wytheville; one grandson, Charles "Eddie" Moore of Roanoke and Wytheville; a special nephew and his wife, the Rev. Clayton and Mildred Hounshell of Wytheville; a special niece, Cecille Rosenbaum of Charlotte, N.C.; special friends, Doug Catron and Cathy Blevins, both of Marion; and several other nieces and nephews.

Myrtle Leonard Whitt, 77, of High Point, N.C., formerly of Wytheville, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in Piedmont Christian House in High Point, N.C.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Drake officiating. Interment followed in the Draper Valley Presbyterian Church cemetery.
She was born in Randolph County, N.C., a daughter of the late Dave and Maude Murray Leonard. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edgar Whitt; one sister, Mattie Overly; and two brothers, Roy Leonard and Russell Leonard.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Marie Robertson of High Point, N.C.; three sons, William Cecil "Bill" Whitt of Phoenix, Ariz., Amos Darrell Whitt and Ronnie Douglas Whitt, both of Greensboro, N.C.; five grandchildren, Christy Danielle Whitt, Jeff Pierce, Brooks Allen Robertson, Kevin Whitt and Adam Spencer Whitt; and two sisters, Lala Overly of Greensboro, N.C., and Bobbie Jean Brown of Sumpter, S.C.

Roy Jefferson Davis, 89, of Route 2, Max Meadows, (the Casselton Road Community), died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at his residence.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Poplar Camp Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. R.J. Reynolds, the Rev. Gary Vernon and the Rev. Larry Barnes officiating. Interment followed in the Bert Spencer Family cemetery.
Davis was born in Carroll County, a son of the late William A. and Elizabeth Vaughn Davis and was a member of the Poplar Camp Church of God of Prophecy. He was a self-employed farmer and sawmill operator.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Roy Davis; and a grandson, David V. Davis Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mae Spencer Davis of the home; five daughters and sons-in-law, Adell and Sherman Riggan of Christiansburg, Mary Lou and Dennis Dyer of Melbourne, Fla., Betty Jean and Bob Caywood, Jewell and David Davis, all of Roanoke, and Barbara and Roy Shinault of Route 2, Max Meadows; two brothers, Harold Davis of Route 2, Max Meadows, and Otha Davis of Salem; a special brother-in-law, Early Spencer of Route 2, Max Meadows; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Betty Jane Garland, 68, of Wytheville, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
A memorial service will be held in the Holly Hill cemetery Mausoleum Chapel in Baltimore, Md.
She was born in Baltimore, Md., a daughter of the late Harry K. and Rhonda Morrison Sullivan.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah Fickus, Terry and Bill Murphy, all of Baltimore, Md., and Valerie Ryan of Wytheville; a son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Jane Ryan of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Kenneth Sullivan of Florida; two special grandchildren, Michael Alley and Kelly Fickus; and seven other grandchildren.

Henry L. "Jack" Grinnell, 80, of Chesapeake, formerly of Wythe County, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, in a Charleston, W.Va. Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Galilee Christian Church with the Rev. Rex Frost and the Rev. Jack Martin officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. The American Legion Post #9 will conduct military graveside rites.
He was the son of the late Lonzo and Kathleen G. Grinnell and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mary P. Grinnell of Chesapeake; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara "Bobbie" and William Scheu of Key Largo, Fla.; four sisters, Helen Bridges and June Leonard, both of Galax, Ann Crigger and Pauline Poole, both of Spring Valley; one brother, Garner Grinnell of Baywood; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Brenda Loraine Pridemore, 52, of Princeton, W.Va., formerly of Rural Retreat, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, in the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Hash and the Rev. Richard Collins officiating. Interment followed in the Kimberlin Lutheran cemetery in Rural Retreat.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Beulah Gay Hall Pridemore; and a daughter, Nancy Hope Pollard.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammy Henderson of Pulaski, and Missy Pollard of Radford; one son, Johnny Hash of Little Creek; her father and stepmother, Paul James Sr. and Della L. Pridemore of Max Meadows; a special friend and companion, Jimmy Dotson of Dublin; three sisters, Treasie Probert of Conyers, Ga., Shirley Pickle and Pauline Gordon, both of Rural Retreat; four brothers, James Pridemore of Wytheville, Harvey Pridemore of Seattle, Wash., Grover Pridemore of Abingdon, and Paul Pridemore Jr. of Rural Retreat; two grandchildren, Karena Faith Pollard and David Lee Wilhite II; and a special niece and nephew, Kimberly and Brandon Childress.

Lucille Miller Kincer of Wytheville died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at her home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 14, at 3 p.m. at the St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Charles C. Burnett and the Rev. Bruce Tuttle officiating. Interment will follow in the East End cemetery.
Kincer was born in Crockett, a daughter of the late Dr. James Miller and Ida Porter Johnston Miller. She was a lifelong member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years and was the first president of the St. Paul Woman's Society of Christian Service (WSCS). She received the Laity service award from the church. She was a lifelong member of the Wythe County Historical Society, which she and her husband helped organize. She was also a member of the Bicentennial Committee and the Wednesday Club. She graduated from Emory & Henry College with honors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney J. Kincer Jr.; one sister, Mabel Miller Craig; one half-sister, Willie Johnston; two brothers, James Miller and Rolfe Miller; and one nephew, Mike Kincer.
Survivors include a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jamie G. and Doris Kincer of Wytheville; four nieces, Patsy Crowell, Martie Byrum, Rebecca Tuttle and Jamie Kincer; three nephews, Dick Miller, Bick Craig and Dempsey Craig; several grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and one great-grand-niece.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home or at the residence at any time.

Ruby Pauline Burress, 72, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in the Twin County Community Hospital in Galax.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel in Bland with the Rev. Sylvie Hill officiating. Interment followed in the Levitt cemetery.
She had been residing at the Hillsville Training Center. She was a daughter of the late Silvey Mason and Sally Mamie Kidd Burress.
She is survived by a sister, Ollie Mae Hart of Vinton; a brother and sister-in-law, Hubert and Reda Mae Burress of Narrows; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Willie Mae Sage Gordon, 76, of Aurora, Colo., formerly of the Camp Community of Rural Retreat, died Friday, May 29, 1998.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Blue Springs United Methodist Church in Camp with the Rev. Bill Perkins officiating.
She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late Ellis F. and Leona Sage.
She is survived by her husband, Col. John N. Gordon of Aurora, Colo.; one daughter, Helen J. Gordon, M.D., of Woodbridge, Calif.; two sisters, Mollie Cox of Bland, and Leona "Tiny" Baumgardner of Sugar Grove; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 3, at the church following the memorial service.
