Christine Davidson
Christine (Candy) Davidson, 80, passed away Monday, February 11, 2008 at Ridgefield Assisted Living in Seven Mile Ford. She was born in Saltville, a daughter of the late Thomas A. and Mintie Clear Davidson. She lived most of her life in Washington County. She was a graduate of Glade Spring High School and the Mary Frye Secretarial School. She worked many years for Reynolds Metal in Richmond, Virginia as a secretary. She was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Eugene “Boone” Davidson and George R. Davidson; four sisters, Pauline Henderson, Agnes Hager, Geneva Riddle, and Esther Davidson.
She is survived by one sister, Mary Bare of Glade Spring; one sister-in-law, Helen Davidson of Abingdon and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, with the Rev. Walter Weikel officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends immediately prior to the service Wednesday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Macie Marie Bennett
Macie Marie Bennett, age 59, passed away Monday, February 11, 2008 in Johnson City Medical Center.
Macie was born November 1, 1948 in Washington County, Virginia to the late John Franklin Moore and the late Bonnie Mae Hampton Moore. She attended Landmark Baptist Church. Macie was currently employed at Tri Tube of Abingdon.
Macie is survived by three sons, David Neely of Saltville, Virginia, Kenneth Neely and Patricia Bower of Marion, Virginia and Robert Neely of Glade Spring, Virginia. Two grandchildren, Tiffany Neely of Glade Spring, Virginia and David Neely of Marion, Virginia; Two sisters, Shelby Hoss and husband, Dennis of Abingdon, Virginia and Mildred Yarber of Glade Spring, Virginia. Three brothers; Ben Moore and wife, Virginia of Glade Spring, Virginia and Wayne Moore of Hampton, Virginia and Glen Moore and wife, Doris of Hampton, Virginia.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 14, 2008 in Glade Baptist cemetery in Glade Spring, Virginia with Rev. Joe Parris and Pastor William D. Hamm, Jr. officiating. Everyone wishing to attend the service is ask to assemble at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 from 6-8 P.M.
Charles Warren Overbay
Charles Warren Overbay, age 80, a lifelong resident of Glade Spring, VA went to be with his Lord on February 11, 2008 at his home.
He was born in Washington County, VA on December 19, 1927 to Jesse and Blanche Bishop Overbay. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David B. Overbay, Chilhowie and Jessie L. Overbay, Overland Park, KS.
Warren Overbay was an active member of the Glade Spring Presbyterian Church until his illness, serving as Elder, Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was employed by the Glade Spring Vance Hardware Co. for fifteen years before becoming an electricity instructor at the William N. Neff Vocational School for 26 years before retiring in 1990. He served in the U. S. Army for two years, serving as Military Police in the Philippines during WWII, and also Korea. He received an honorable discharge in 1947.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Shirley Blevins Overbay three daughters, Sue Blevins and her husband, Ralph (Butch) of Glade Spring, VA, Patty Blevins Haynes and husband, Scott, Hayter’s Gap, VA, and Lisa Friend, Richmond, VA. His grandchildren, Christopher Blevins, Matthew Blevins and wife Karen, Alison Hubbard and husband Jonathan, David Friend, Jr. (D. J.) and Cherish Friend; four great-grandchildren, three boys and a girl. Also his sister, Marie O. Carpenter, Scranton, PA., several nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law June C. Overbay, Chilhowie, VA and Kathryn F. Overbay, Overland Park, KS.
Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Old Glade Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Tim Bird officiating. Burial will be the following morning, Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 11:00 a. m. at the Old Glade Presbyterian cemetery. You may also visit at the Overbay home anytime.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Blevins, Matthew Blevins, David Friend, Jr., Bob Lane, Jim Hutton, Dr. Andrew Overbay, Dr. Tom Overbay, Patrick and Frank Buchanan. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class and former students.

Judith Annette Davis Counts
Mrs. Judith Annette Davis Counts, age 71, passed away February 13, 2008 at her home.
She was born September 7, 1936 in Dickenson County, Virginia to the late Oscar Mitchell “Bill” Davis and Zella Wilborn Davis. Mrs. Counts had resided in Michigan for forty years before moving to Glade Spring, Virginia in 1992.
Besides her father Mrs. Counts is preceded in death by her husband, Harry T. Counts.
Mrs. Counts is survived by her mother, Zella Wilborn Davis of Bristol, Tennessee, one son, William Roger Counts and wife, Kin Mei of Arizona, one daughter, Mary Beth Counts and husband, Fred Ebert of Glade Spring, Virginia. One brother, William “Buddy” Davis of Orlando, Florida. Four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 15, 2008 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with reading of Psalms by Joe Tate and Mike O’Conner and eulogy by her daughter, Mary Beth Counts and Anita Artrip. Burial will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Thursday February 14, 2008 from 6-8 P.M.

Lillian Orr Carver
Mrs. Lillian Orr Carver, 91, died Wednesday February 13, 2008 at Countryside Assisted Living in Cleveland. She was a native of Washington County and had resided in Cleveland for the past eight years. She was a daughter of the late William and Bina Norris Orr. She was a member of the Old Glade Presbyterian Church and a retired school teacher with the Washington County, Virginia school system. She was preceded in death by her husband Cyril Carver, one son Jack Kendall Carver, and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Randy Carver and wife Lilly of Cleveland, Tennessee; one sister, Marjorie Orr Trent of Damascus; three grandchildren, Randall Carver and wife Debbie of Watauga, Texas, Matthew Carver and wife Joy of Palm Bay, Florida, and Suzanne Johnson and husband Scott of Cleveland, Tennessee; and three great grandchildren, Damon Carver, Brett Johnson, and Lucas Johnson.
The funeral service will be conducted Sunday, February 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Old Glade Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Timothy Bird officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Glade Presbyterian cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-9 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.

Clara M. Van Fleet
Clara “Chris” M. Van Fleet, age 93, passed away Friday, February 15, 2008 in the Grace Health Care Center in Abingdon.
She was born January 23, 1915 in Indianapolis, Indiana and had lived most of her life in Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Scott Van Fleet and her son, Peter Scott Van Fleet.
Chris is survived by her daughter Susan Jo Van Fleet of Abingdon and her granddaughter Shannon A. Shropshire of Johnson City, TN.
At Chris’s request, her ashes will be returned to the Crown Hill cemetery in Indianapolis to be placed next to her husband.

Ruth W. Riffe
Mrs. Ruth W. Riffe, 79, died Monday February 18, 2008 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Princeton, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Hobert and Estelle Spencer Wood. She graduated Salutatorian from Big Creek High School in War, WV in 1946. She spent most of her life in and around the Princeton area prior to moving to Abingdon in 1995. She retired as manager of Admissions at Concord University. She was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church and was a member of the Eastern Star in Beckley. Mrs. Riffe was an avid reader and loved raising her family.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James H. Riffe; two sons, Tom Riffe of Abingdon and Paul Riffe and wife Kathi of Greensboro, NC; one daughter, Rebecca Riffe of Abingdon; and two grandchildren, Eric Riffe of Lynchburg and Nancy Riffe of Tuscaloosa, AL.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in Monte Vista Park cemetery in Princeton with the Rev. Walter Weikel and the Rev. Nicole Hill officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
Lillian Delephefene Morrison
Mrs. Lillian Delephefene “Del” Morrison, age 77, passed away Wednesday February 20, 2008 in her home.
Mrs. Morrison was born April 12, 1930 in Russell County, Virginia to the late James Huey Kennedy and the late Hattie Burns Tignor Kennedy. She had lived most of her life in Washington County, Virginia and had attended Gospel Tabernacle.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Fred Edward Morrison and one brother, Herman Kennedy.
Mrs. Morrison is survived by three daughters: Charlene Cross and husband Raymond of Meadowview, Virginia; Betty McCracken and husband Doug of Abingdon, Virginia; and Debbie Atkins and husband Tony of Damascus, Virginia; two sons: Johnny Morrison and wife Judy of Meadowview, Virginia; and Bobby Edward Morrison and wife Ann of Abingdon, Virginia; one sister, Louise Hickman and husband Sonny of Abingdon, Virginia. Ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 23, 2008 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Scott Spence and Rev. Paul Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Mike Jackson, Chad Morrison, Eddie Cross, Jason McCracken, Ernie Simons, and Shawn Cross. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeff Gross, Mike McCracken, Tony Atkins, Raymond Cross, Aaron Burns, Jerry Minter, and David Dingus. Zoe Alexis Hall
Zoe Alexis Hall, precious 16 month old baby girl of Andrew and Jenny Hall, received her angel wings on February 21, 2008. Zoe was a joy to everyone that knew her and she will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to her parents Zoe is survived by her loving grandparents and other family members.
Funeral services for Zoe Alexis Hall will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, located on the grounds of Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA. Fannie Virginia Moore
Fannie Virginia (Molly) Moore, 83, went to Heaven to be with our Lord and Savior on February 21, 2008. She was born January 22, 1925 in Front Royal, VA and was a longtime resident of Meadowview, VA.
She loved quilting, gardening, canning and typing letters. She was a devoted mother, a cherished grandmother, a beloved sister, and a friend to all who knew her. She now rests in the arms of the angels.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Brentie Tharpe of Front Royal, VA and brothers, Ollie Tharpe, Louis Tharpe, Hollis Tharpe and Earnest Tharpe all of Front Royal, VA, her devoted husband of 47 years, Robert David Moore, Sr., of Meadowview, VA and infant granddaughter, Patricia Ann Brinklow of Fountain, CO.

Jimmy Dean Counts, Jr.
Jimmy Dean Counts, Jr., age 51, of Meadowview, Virginia, departed this life and entered into eternal rest on February 20, 2008, after a brave and arduous battle with lung cancer at Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Jimmy was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Meadowview where he gave his heart and life to the Lord and was baptized into the Christian faith. Jimmy was an outdoorsman and avid sportsman who enjoyed life here in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, where he was a life-long resident. He loved animals and the beauty of nature. He enjoyed farming, hunting, bowling, traveling, and all types of fishing, especially deep-sea fishing. Jimmy traveled often to New England where he visited with family; he especially enjoyed trips to Martha’s Vineyard and St. Martin. Jimmy was a very special gift from God to his family and friends. Jimmy’s enormous heart overflowed with love to everyone near and dear to him, and he will be missed more than words can say. Life here on earth was made a better place simply by Jimmy’s existence, and he will be missed forever by his family and friends. Each of us looks forward to the day we will see him again in heaven.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Floyd Roscoe Counts and Cora Barnett Counts; his maternal grandparents, Ewell Gregory and Mary Parris Gregory; his brother, Jeffrey Lee Counts, his father Jimmy Dean Counts, Sr.; his son, Matthew Adam counts who died in infancy, and his uncles Bill Counts, B.L. Counts, and Vernon Counts.
Surviving Jimmy are his devoted wife, soul mate, and caregiver, Santha Hayton Counts of the home; his son, Jimmy Dean Counts, III (Jamie) of Gastonia, North Carolina, three daughters, Heather Renee Counts of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jodi Lee Counts of Lebanon, Virginia, and Courtney Renee Counts of Meadowview, Virginia; his beloved mother, Mildred Gregory Counts of North Hampton, New Hampshire, his sister, Caroline Counts Levine of North Hampton, New Hamphshire who Jimmy often referred to as one of his guardian angels; one brother and one sister by his dad’s second marriage, Jay Vernon Counts and Angel Dawn Counts Tyson of Waxhaw, North Carolina; four precious granddaughters (his pride and joy) include Bailey Shae Kinder, Jordan Aryn Mathis, Elizabeth Jade Mathis of Lebanon, Virginia, and Laci Madison Counts of Meadowview, Virginia; ; uncles include Bob Counts of Tallahassee, Florida and Kenneth Gregory of Meadowview, Virginia; aunts include Ernestine Gregory Davis of Roxboro, North Carolina and Betty Sue Gregory Medicus of Abingdon, Virginia; a special nephew, James Colby Levine; two special nieces include Olivia Griffin and Victoria Griffin of North Hampton, New Hampshire and Charity Counts Bergstrom of Charlotte, North Carolina. Also included are nieces Kayley Tyson, Dixie Tyson, and Emma Counts and three nephews Daniel Counts, Nicholas Counts and Jackson Counts of Waxhaw, North Carolina. In addition are his church family, numerous cousins and friends. Of special mention are his other family, the Haytons and his very special cousin Michelle Gregory.
The family will receive friends at The Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon, Virginia on Sunday, February 24, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The memorial service will be held at Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon on Monday, February 25, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. The interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA. A reception for family and friends will follow at The Martha Washington Inn in Abingdon, VA. The service will be conducted by Reverend Jim Pence and Dr. Tal Stanley.
Pallbearers include Rodney Humphrey, Roger Davis, Tony Surber, John David Sanders, Ray Stacy, and Travis Hayton. Honorary pallbearers include Bob Levine, Colby Levine, Kelvin Davenport, Darrell Davenport, Bobby Hayton, Buster Perkins, Billy Sanders, G.C. Brown and Dr. Jonathan Swank.

Ida Baldwin Chappell, age 58, died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at her home. Arrangements are incomplete.
Ottolene Thomas Browning
Ottolene Thomas Browning, 85, a resident of Washington County, VA; died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was born April 6, 1922 in Galax, Va., a daughter of Dr. William Wallace McChesney and Ottolene Morrisette. She was raised in Holston Valley in Washington County, VA by her adopted parents, Samuel Cox Thomas and Monnie McChesney Thomas. Mrs. Browning lived at Mountain Home, TN until 1977 at which time she and her husband Tivis retired to Holston Valley.
She graduated from Cleveland High School, attended Virginia Intermont College, a member of Cold Spring Presbyterian Church and active in the women’s church work. She was also active in the development of Cleveland Community Center in Washington County, VA. Mrs. Browning was preceded in death by her husband, Tivis Browning; daughter, Ginny Eslinger; and granddaughter, Heather Browning.
Surviving family includes: One son: Jeff Browning, wife, Jeanie; One daughter: Brenda Browning Smith, husband Nat; One sister: Mary Louise Fleenor; 8 Grandchildren: Richard Hammett, David Hammett, BJ Doughty, Hillary Jones, Holly Browning, Scott Lawson, Jason Lawson, and Justin Smith.; 3 Great-grandchildren: Christopher Hammett, Matthew Hammett, Ethan Hammett.
