Edison O. Reedy

Edison O. Reedy, 70, of Groseclose, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 25, at 11 a.m. at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Duvall officiating.

He was a native of Grayson County and had lived most of his life in Smyth County. He attended the Groseclose First Church of God and was retired from the Department of Corrections in 1988 with over 35 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Reedy.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Tammy Reedy of Rural Retreat, and Roger and Marianne Reedy of Rural Retreat; three sisters, Edith Taylor of Sugar Grove, Mrs. Paul (Viola) Pierce of Marion, and Ann Willard of Marion; one sister-in-law, Fannie Reedy of Troutdale; three grandchildren, Chris Reedy, Phillip Reedy and Tiffany Reedy; and a special friend, Ruby Overbay.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bradley's Funeral Home.

Everett Randall Stuart

Everett Randall "Tridley" Stuart, 57, of Route 1, Austinville, the Flatwoods Community, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 25, at 2 p.m. at the Flatwoods Church of God with the Rev. Clayton Quesenberry and the Rev. Clarence Akers officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.

He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late Florence Jonas Stuart and the Rev. Maurice D. Stuart. He was a member of the Flatwoods Church of God for 36 years and served as a Sunday school superintendent for 30 years. He worked for New Jersey Zinc Mining for 19 years.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Virginia Alley Stuart of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Ronnie and Susan Stuart, Donnie and Sandra Stuart, and David and Shirley Stuart, all of Austinville; six grandchildren, Kristlyn Stuart, Derek Stuart, Chris Stuart, Ashley Stuart, Michelle Stuart and Eddie Stuart, all of Austinville; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Hilda and Melvin Bond of Sylvatus, Lovetta and Thomas Collins, Annette and Dennis Hill, Christine and James Porter, all of Ivanhoe, and Daphne and Freddie Rosenbaum of Cripple Creek; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Marion Dean "M.D." and Evelyn Stuart of Ivanhoe, Gordan and Loretta Stuart of Richmond, Carlie and Susie Stuart of Wytheville, and Roy and Nancy Stuart of Max Meadows; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home.

Euna Magdalene Littreal Dunford

Euna Magdalene Littreal Dunford, 80, of Ivanhoe, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Ingo and the Rev. Donald Crockett officiating. Interment followed in the Odd Fellows cemetery in Ivanhoe.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Maude V. Littreal.

Survivors include her husband, Early M. "Earl" Dunford of the home; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Gene and Linda Dunford of Ivanhoe, Dennie Dunford, and Garland Junior Dunford, both of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Wayne Armbrister, Helen and Jerry Armbrister, Annie and David Graybeal, all of Max Meadows, and Kathy Dunford of the home; a special grandson, Chad Dunford of the home; 10 grandchildren; one step-grandson; eight great-grandchildren; an aunt, Helen Pack; and special friends, Virginia Weatherman and Hazel Hudson.

Linda Carol Pickle

Linda Carol Pickle, 51, of Rural Retreat, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Hoyle officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John A. and Anna E. Hancock.

Survivors include her fiancé, John W. Tuggle of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherry and Jessie Crockett of Wytheville, and Angela M. Jones of Johnson City, Tenn.; one sister, Margaret Sawyer of Abingdon; a niece, Neta Lester; two nephews, Leonard Carl "Chip" Ferguson, and Mike Ferguson; two great-nephews and one great-niece; and a special friend, Judy Richardson of Vine Grove, Ky.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home or at the residence at any time.

Sara Lee Nichols Poole

Sara Lee Nichols Poole, 82, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

A celebration service of her life will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, at 4 p.m. at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Wytheville.

She was born in Charlotte, N.C., on Feb. 17, 1917, a daughter of William L. Nichols and Irma Davis Nichols. She attended Queens College in Charlotte, N.C., to study music. She married Robert Edward Poole and they move to Wytheville in 1951. She was the choir director at Petunia Christian Church for a number of years, and she directed music education at St. John's Episcopal Church Day School. She donated her time and musical talent to the St. Paul United Methodist Church Nursery School, the Asbury Center at Birdmont and the Edgemont Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Poole; and a step-son, Robert Everette Poole.

Survivors include cousins, Thelma L. Johnson, Margaret Davis, and Lorraine J. Fetz, all of Charleston, S.C.; a niece, Jean L. Parks of Charleston, S.C.; two step-daughters and step-sons-in-law, Patricia Poole and Richard Van Patten of Sherman Oaks, Calif., and Pamela Poole and Leonard Libby of Houston, Texas; a step-daughter-in-law, Mrs. Robert Everett (Barbara) Poole of Concord; nine step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren; a long time assistant, Alice Nelson; her advisor, Bill Irwin; and numerous friends and acquaintances.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Wytheville, VA 24382, or to a charity of your choice.

Ralph Luther Blair Sr.

Ralph Luther "Samp" Blair Sr., 70, of Cana, Va., formerly of Ivanhoe, Va., died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in North Surry Hospital, Mt. Airy, N.C.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 8, at 8 p.m. conducted by IVA Lodge No. 173, I.O.O.F. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel, Austinville, Va., with the Rev. Caudill Ashford officiating. Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery, Ivanhoe, Va. American Legion Post No. 9 will conduct graveside military rites.

He was born in Wythe County, Va. He was a retired merchant, rural route mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and a former Wythe County Supervisor (Lead Mines District). He was a member of the IVA Lodge No. 173, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Weatherman Blair; his parents, William and Augusta Argyle Blair.

Survivors include his wife, Claudine Blair of Cana, Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Robert Baker of Max Meadows, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph Jr. and Bobbye Blair of Byron, Ill., and Sampson and Marylou Blair of Phoenix, Ariz.; three stepsons, Ricky Hawks, Randy Hawks and Rusty Hawks, all of Mt. Airy, N.C.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Doug Goeff of Florida, Audrey Blair of Radford, Va., and Charlotte and Aubrey McRoberts of Annapolis, Md.; two brothers and sister-in-law, Troy Blair of Silver Springs, Md., and Reggie and Patty Blair of Ivanhoe, Va.; seven grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and two great-stepgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. (service time) at the Reese Funeral Home or at his home in Ivanhoe, Va., at any time.

Gladys Ceary Rich of Asheville, N.C., formerly of Cripple Creek, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville, Va. Interment will be in the Bethany Lutheran cemetery, Cripple Creek, Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Fred S. Rich.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home.

Joey Lynn Huff

Joey Lynn Huff, 44, of Max Meadows, Va., died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in Dublin, Va.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, Pulaski, Va., with Pastor Donald Drummond officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery, Pulaski, Va.

He was born in Wythe County, Va., on May 23, 1957.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph V. Huff Jr. and Betty Armbrister Huff; and two brothers, Barry Steven Huff and Dennis Ray Huff.

Survivors include his wife, Kelly Huff of Dublin, Va.; a son, Travis Huff of Dublin, Va.; a granddaughter, Cierra Huff; his paternal grandmother, Lissie Huff of Hopewell, Va.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Charlotte Denise and John Rye of Pilot, Va., and Diane and Jeffrey Plant of Willis, Va.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kirt and Teresa Huff of Castlewood, Va., and Mike and Sabrina Huff of Parrot, Va.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va.

Mary Elizabeth Wohlford Kincer, 79, of Wytheville, Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Ephriam United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her father, Allen Reed Wohlford; a sister, Thelma Wohlford Tarter; and a brother, Clayton Wohlford.

Survivors include a son, Timothy "Butch" Kincer of Wytheville, Va.; her mother, Mae Irvin Wohlford of Wytheville, Va.; four sisters and brother-in-law, Zelma Tarter of Crockett, Va., Audrey and John Copenhaver of Rural Retreat, Va., Vivian Worton of Marion, Va., and Myra Sayers of Florida; five brothers and sisters-in-law, E. Reed and Elizabeth Wohlford of Wytheville, Va., Willis and Betty Wohlford of Wytheville, Va., Fred "Skip" Wohlford of Wytheville, Va., Danny and Nancy Wohlford of Christiansburg, Va., and Brownie Wohlford of Wytheville, Va.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Ernest Lee "Hip" Cline, 66, of Gray, Tenn., formerly of Cripple Creek, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, in the Mountain Home Veterans Hospital in Johnson City, Tenn.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 8 p.m. at the Eastlawn Funeral Home in Kingsport, Tenn. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Eastlawn cemetery in Kingsport, Tenn.

He was the son of the late Crockett and Mary Dickens Cline.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Lowe Cline of the home; a daughter, Janie Horne of Gray, Tenn.; four sons, Ernest Cline Jr., William "Bill" Cline, David Cline, and Jimmy Cline, all of Gray, Tenn.; two sisters, Ruth Jones of Fries, and Mary Edith Grubb of Wytheville; two brothers, Pierce Cline of Baltimore, Md., and Richard Cline of Galax; one granddaughter and two grandsons.

Pearl Hoback Albert, 74, of Wytheville, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, in the Edgemont Center.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, at 2 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel. Interment followed in the West End cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James McCormick Albert.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Wayne Harlow of Chester, and Janice and William Butterworth of Roanoke; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Laura Albert of Bristol, Gene and Fonda Albert, and Allen and Pat Albert, all of Wytheville; two sisters, Beulah Bing and Mary Brunk, both of Wytheville; one brother, Fred Hoback of Wytheville; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Shirley Merlene Porter Ayers, 62, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at her residence.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 2, at 2 p.m. at the Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment followed in the West End cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Leon Ayers Sr.

Survivors include one daughter, Rhonda A. Ayers of Wytheville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Leon and Emma Ayers of Max Meadows, Greg and Cindy Ayers of Max Meadows, and Kevin Ayers of Wytheville; three sisters, Louise Shipwash of Ivanhoe, Linda Viars of Ivanhoe, and Diane Porter of Wytheville; one brother, Billy Porter of Pulaski; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Dellie Etta Graham Houseman, 94, of Max Meadows, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, in the Edgemont Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 3, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Rick Lindamood officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery.

She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late John Andrew and Luemma Dean Graham, and was the oldest member of the Max Meadows United Methodist Church. She would read two chapters per day from the Bible.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Isaac Houseman; a daughter, Emma Ruth Houseman; three sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Elbert and Mary Houseman of Hilton Head, S.C.; two grandsons and spouse, Rodger and Dolores Houseman of Bluffton, S.C., and Mark Houseman of Hilton Head, S.C.; two great-grandsons, Stephen Houseman and Michael Houseman, both of Bluffton, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
