James E. Lucas
James E. "Jim" Lucas, 72, of the Little Creek section of Bland County, Va., died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002.
A memorial services will be held Monday, Dec. 30, at 4 p.m. at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Wytheville, Va.
A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, he was a retired lieutenant in the U.S. Navy with 23 years of service. He was the president of the Virginia Photography Association and previously served as Bland County Administrator. He was claims agent of the Division of War Veterans Claims, a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Post No. 9, and president of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil L. Lucas and Helene Ruth Reiser; and one sister, Elrae Ostrowski.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis A. "Pam" Lucas of the home; four sons, Petty Officer Mark E. Lucas of Honolulu, Hawaii, Jon Braithwaite of Easton, Md., David Braithwaite of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., and Paul Lucas of Laurenburg, N.C.; three grandchildren, Gavin Braithwaite, Eric Braithwaite and Susan Emily Lucas; and one sister, Mary Jane Gerstheimer of New York.
The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 30, at the home following the 4 p.m. service.

Bryan Keith Wright, 44, of Ravenna, Ohio, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Akron City Hospital in Ohio of natural causes.
Inurnment will be in Wytheville, Va., at a later date.
Born Oct. 18, 1958, in Wytheville, Va., he moved to Ravenna, Ohio, in 1976. He was owner and operator of Wright's Construction in Ravenna, Ohio, and specialized in dry wall installation.
He was preceded in death in 1972 by his father, Warren Wright.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Shirley Wright and Walter Graham of Ravenna, Ohio; a daughter, Breanna Wright of Ravenna, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Kaley Myers of Ravenna, Ohio; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Butch Bowdish of Ravenna, Ohio; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Frankie Wright of Wytheville, Va., and Michael and Sandy Wright of Ravenna, Ohio.

Richard Guy Wiley, 52, of Lexington, N.C., formerly of Bland, Va., died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home in Bland, Va., with Pastor Daniel Stowers officiating.
He was born Dec. 5, 1950.
He was preceded death by his mother, Flossie Bowles Wiley.
Survivors include his father, Richard Emory Wiley of Independence, Va.; two daughters, Radonna Freeman of Bastian, Va., and Samantha Burrell of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, Kevin Guy Wiley of Lexington, N.C.; two brothers, Bill Wiley of Southmont, N.C., and Steve Wiley of Southmont, N.C.; two sisters, Anna Cregger of Ceres, Va., and Darlene Craver of Southmont, N.C.; two grandchildren, Zachary Freeman and Carmen Freeman, both of Bastian, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank Middleton Rowlett
Frank Middleton Rowlett, 95, of Wilmington, Del., died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Christiana Hospital from complications from a fall.
A graveside service will be held Friday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. at the Bland cemetery with the Rev. Leland Smith officiating.
He was born March 12, 1907, in Roanoke, Va. His family moved to Richmond, Va., where he lived until his marriage to Margaret Grayson Dunn in 1936. He was employed by Hercules Powder Co. (Hercules, Inc.), first in Brunswick, Ga., and in 1938, in Wilmington, Del., where he and his wife lived out their lives. He traveled extensively with Hercules and later with his wife in retirement. He'd played semi-professional football with the Richmond Rockets and rowed competitively. He belonged to the Skating Club of Wilmington and was garden volunteer at the Winterthur Museum. He was a member of Christ Church, Christiana Hundred, Del.
He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Grayson Rowlett Govatos of Annandale, Va.; a niece, Dorothy Rowlett Colburn of Middletown, Del.; and a granddaughter, Christina Grayson Govatos of Concord, N.H.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Hattie Mae "Ginger" Shaffer of Max Meadows, Va., died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Richard Lindamood and the Rev. Bill Davis officiating.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William P. and Juanita Smith.
Survivors include her husband, E.R. Rebecca Duncan Watson, 61, of Withers Road, Wytheville, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel, Wytheville, Va. Interment will be in the West End cemetery, Wytheville, Va.
She was a graduate of Jackson Memorial High School and Radford College. She taught school at Spiller Primary for many years.
She was preceded in death by her father, John C. Duncan; and a special aunt, Audrey Davidson.
Survivors include a daughter, Leigh Ann Watson of Wytheville, Va.; her mother, Lucille T. Duncan of Wytheville, Va.; a sister, Jeannie Duncan of Wytheville, Va.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Barbara Duncan of Austinville, Va., Johnny and Peggy Duncan of Wytheville, Va.; two nieces, Stephanie Berg and Michelle Perkins; a great-nephew, Joshua T. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Joseph Cali Jr.

He was born in Wythe County, Va. He was retired from Pendleton Construction Company and attended the Stony Fork Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Gordon Arnold and Lula Jane Eversole Arnold; a son, John Gordon Arnold; two grandsons, John Gregory Arnold and Andrew Arnold Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Edna Virginia Umberger Arnold; two sisters and one brother.

Eva B. Pruett Dunagan, 92, of Princeton, W.Va., died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at the Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton, W.Va.
A service to celebrate her life was held Saturday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m. at the Burns Wornal Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton, W.Va., with the Rev. Gerald McKinney, the Rev. Joe Fritz, and the Rev. Barry Skaggs officiating. Burial was in the Shiloh cemetery, Bland, Va.
Born Oct. 10, 1910, in Bland County, Va., she was a former employee for National Coil Company in Bluefield, W.Va., and the Bastian Sportswear Company. She was a member of the Silver Springs Baptist Church in Princeton, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Louise Alburt Williams; her first husband, Henry H. Pruett Sr.; her second husband, T.R. Dunagan; a grandson, Steven Pruett; two great-grandchildren, Tonya and Chris; and five brothers and sisters, Pauline Helvey, Della Sarver, Ed Williams, Jim Williams and Blake Williams.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Henry H. Kenneth Arnold Fowler, 38, of Cary, N.C., died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nelson Price and Ethel Bessie Mabry Fowler, and Claude Willis and Ollie Mae Peak Dalton.
