Sharon Maria Romano Meadows, 52, of Bland, Va., died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at her home.

A rosary service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 8:15 p.m. at Grubb Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Wytheville, conducted by Father Rene Castillo. Interment will be in the Roselawn cemetery, Princeton, W.Va. approximately at 1 p.m.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jim and Adeline Romano and Jim and Ethel Janutolo.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Lee Meadows Jr. of Bland, Va.; four children and their spouses, Jenny and Chris Mishoe of Christiansburg, Va., Stephanie and Mark Shropshire of Old Saybrook, Conn, Ralph Lee Meadows III, and Joseph Brian Meadows, both of Bland, Va.; her parents, Joseph A. and Hila J. Romano of Bland, Va.; one sister and three brothers and spouses, Vince and Denise Romano, Bridget and Mark Sarver, Tim and Sharon Romano, all of Bland, Va., and Kevin and Charlene Romano of Winchester, Va.; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lillian and Garland Ragan; a granddaughter, Anna Kathryn Mishoe; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 6 to 8:15 p.m. (service time) at Grubb Funeral Home.

Charles Eugene "Charlie Bug" Stowers

Charles Eugene "Charlie Bug" Stowers, 28, of Pearisburg, Va., died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville, Va., from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle incident on Interstate 77.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 13, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, Va., with the Rev. Bill Sleasman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunny Point cemetery in the Clearfork section of Bland County, Va., near Rocky Gap, Va.

Born March 28, 1975, he was employed as a laborer with a flooring company.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Allen Shrader; and his paternal grandfather, Charles Bernard Stowers.

Survivors include his parents, Darrell Lynn and Patricia Darlene Shrader Stowers of Pearisburg, Va.; one son, Charles Eugene Stowers Jr. of Narrows, Va.; his maternal grandmother, Gracie Shrader of Bland, Va.; his paternal grandmother, Stella Stowers of Bastian, Va.; two brothers and sister-in-law, Jason Lee and Nancy Stowers of Pearisburg, Va., and Joseph Clay Stowers of Pearisburg, Va.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, Va.

Nancy Margaret Barrett Arnold

Nancy Margaret Barrett Arnold, 66, of Bastian, Va., died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at her residence.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 31, at 8 p.m. at the Highland Funeral Service Bland Chapel, Bland, Va., with the Rev. David Webb officiating.

She was born in Nemours, W.Va. She attended the Bastian Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Bessie Tate Barrett; three sisters, Rosalie Ramsey, Emma Lou Williamson, and Mary Ellen Corner; four brothers, Claude Barrett, Delbert Barrett, Jasper Barrett, and Silas Barrett.

Survivors include her husband, Cegil G. "Bunny" Arnold of the home; three sons and daughter-in-law, Junior Ray Arnold of Lawrenceville, Va., Michael Wayne and Debbie Arnold of Windsor, Va., and David Troy Arnold of Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Deborah Arnold Moldovan of Newport News, Va., and Cathy Marie Ruff of Virginia Beach, Va.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Louella Barrett, Paul and Helen Barrett, Paul and Helen Barrett, all of Bluefield, W.Va., and Alex and Bea Barrett of California; five grandchildren, Jamie Alan Braswell, Jodie Renee Braswell, Chrissy Marie McDonough, Alex Ruff, and Brandon Arnold; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. (service time) at the Highland Funeral Service Bland Chapel, Bland, Va.

William Anderson Bryant

William Anderson "Bill" Bryant, 80, of Wytheville died Sunday, July 13, 2003, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 16, at 4 p.m. at the Wytheville Baptist Church with Pastor Wade Tucker officiating. Entombment was in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Rural Retreat.

He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late James Early and Sarah Martin Bryant. He was co-owner of Wythe Fuel Service and was a member of the Wytheville Baptist Church and the Wytheville Masonic Lodge No. 82, A.F. & A.M. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Meredith and Nancy Crigger; and a brother, Charles Bryant.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Rickey Bryant of Wytheville; one daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi and Wayne Hedrick of Newport News; two granddaughters, Jessica Hedrick and Katelyn Hedrick; and two sisters and brother-in-law, Maude and Willie Umberger, and Mary Chapman, all of Wytheville.

The family suggests those who prefer may make memorial donations to the Wythe County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 389, Wytheville, VA 24360.

Beulah Ruth Coley

Beulah Ruth Coley, 74, of Springfield died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Mount Vernon Hospital.

Graveside services were held Friday, July 18, at 2 p.m. at West End cemetery in Wytheville.

She was a longtime resident of Northern Virginia.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Coley.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest C. Coley; two daughters, Linda Mae Langley of Woodbridge and Barbara Sue Waggy of Manassas; five sons, Ernest Coley Jr. of Lake Ana, Eddie Coley, Donnie Coley, Robert Coley and John Coley, all of Springfield; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Harry Wesley Danner

Harry Wesley Danner, 53, of Wytheville died Sunday evening, July 13, 2003, in the Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Kevin Fiorini and the Rev. Russell Catron officiating. Interment was in Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat.

He was born in Pulaski, a son of the late John Edward Sr. and Dorothy Simmerman Danner. He was a former member of Galena Presbyterian Church, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a well-known brickmason and farmer.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kara Rebecca Danner; and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Catron Danner of the home; one daughter, Katie Loraine Danner of the home; two brothers, John Edward Danner Jr. of Wilkesboro, N.C., and David R. Danner of Max Meadows; father-in-law, Hubert Catron Jr. of Rural Retreat; two special sisters-in-law and spouses, Linda and Kevin Fiorini, Wanda and Larry Pruitt, all of Wytheville; a special brother-in-law and spouse, Ron and Ginny Catron of Wytheville; a special aunt, Loraine Heldreth of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests those who prefer may make memorials to the American Diabetes Association, the Memorial & Honor Program, Call Center, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.

Clara Allison Edwards

Clara "Doodle" Allison Edwards, 69, of Barren Springs died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at the Pulaski Community Hospital in Pulaski.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel in Austinville. Interment was in the family cemetery.

She was born April 22, 1934, in Wythe County, a daughter of the late Grat and Mollie Saferight Allison. She was a former employee of Jefferson Mills in Pulaski.

She is survived by her husband, Millard E. Edwards of the home; one son, Donnie Edwards of Albermarle, N.C.; one granddaughter, Dacie Edwards of Concord, N.C.; two sisters, Frances Chrisley of Barren Springs and Ruby Horton of Draper; one half sister, Kathryn Brown of Florida; two half brothers, Oscar Allison of Richmond and Richard Allison of Hurt; and several nieces and nephews.

Reese Funeral Home in Austinville was in charge of the arrangements.

James Robert Fisher Sr.

James Robert "Bob" Fisher Sr., 82, of Wytheville died Friday, July 18, 2003, at his home.

Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge No. 235 conducted a Masonic memorial service Saturday, July 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20, at 3 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville with the Rev. Jeff Callahan and the Rev. Kevin Fiorini officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church cemetery. American Legion Post No. 9 conducted military graveside rites.

He was the son of the late Charlie and Leora Collins Fisher. He was retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad in Radford after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church and the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge No. 235. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served four years.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Fisher; and a sister, Vergie Umberger.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bertie Callahan Fisher of the home; one daughter, Patty F. Reynolds of Wytheville; a former son-in-law, E.W. Reynolds Jr. of Max Meadows; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Jo Ann Fisher of Radford; two sisters, Ollie Kincer and Lettie Groseclose, both of Wytheville; four grandchildren and spouses, Tammy and Larry Keith of Austinville, E.W. III "Dubbs" and Brook Reynolds of Max Meadows, Shelly and Mark Fountain, and Jamie Fisher, all of Radford; five great-grandsons, Christian, Tanner, Connor, Julius and Ethan; three sisters-in-law, Lucille Fisher, Margaret Callahan and Louise Callahan, all of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.

Samuel John Gravley

Samuel John "Johnny" Gravley, 56, of Max Meadows, the Sanders Mines community, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at the Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville. Interment was in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church cemetery.

He was born June 2, 1947, in Wythe County, a son of the late John E. and Mittie Cregger Gravley. He was retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant and was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil "Sonny" Gravley.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Gravley of the home; twins daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Stephen Fisher, and Candy and Erich Ingo, all of Max Meadows; six grandchildren, Zachary and Jesse Fisher, Ethan and Chasity Ingo, and Lukas and Seth Dalton; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Edd Dunford of Max Meadows, Jo Ann Gravley of Bassett, Til and Junior Alderman of Barren Springs; three brothers and sisters-in-law, James L. and Dorothy Gravley of Wytheville, George C. Gravley, Tommy M. and Laura Gravley, all of Max Meadows; one foster brother and foster sister-in-law, Raymond and Mae Shinault of Pulaski; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda and Harold Morris of Dublin; and special friends, Freda and Willie Odell and Darrell and Jenny Quesenberry.

Ethel A. Lambert

Ethel Alberta Lambert, 78, of Ceres died Wednesday, July 16, 2003.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at Newberry Funeral Home in Bland with the Rev. Josephine Gravely and the Rev. Leroy Long officiating. Interment was at the Old Bethel cemetery in Bland.

She moved to Bland County in 1930 and was a member of the Bland Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford L. Lambert; and her parents, Morton Harrison and Myra Hounshell Lambert.

Survivors include one brother, James Claire Lambert of Bland; two sisters, Pearl Lambert and Lloyd Lambert, both of Bland; two sisters-in-law, Jean Lambert and Verdie Townley, both of Bland; and several nieces and nephews.

Leona Davis Lammey

Leona Phern Davis Lammey, 88, of Wytheville, the Fairview community, died Sunday, July 13, 2003.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 16, at 2 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville with the Rev. Kevin Fiorini. Interment was in the Fairview United Methodist Church cemetery.

She was a daughter of the late Benjamin M. and Evelyn Maude Gregory Davis. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland H. Lammey; and a sister, Louise Margaret Davis.

Survivors include a special friend, Gerry Sharitz of Wytheville; and several cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairview United Methodist Church cemetery Fund.

Michael L. Lefler, 49, of Max Meadows died Saturday, July 12, 2003, in Easton, Md.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 16, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Richard Lindamood officiating. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery, Pulaski.

He was employed by Shortt Landscaping and Construction Co. in Easton, Md.

He was preceded in death by his father, James T. Lefler; stepfather, Fred H. McKinney; maternal grandmother, Fannie M. Mills; and maternal grandfather, Aaron J. Peake Sr.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Lou McKinney of Max Meadows; one sister, Donna L. Clark of Max Meadows; stepchildren, Rodney Jones, Renee and Danny Dunford, all of Max Meadows; one brother, Marty McKinney of Max Meadows; aunts and uncles, A.J. and Snowdeer Peake of Pulaski, Dessie Moore of Max Meadows, and Lillian and Robert Ratcliffe of Pulaski; special niece and nephew, Ashley and Roger Funk of Dublin; special grandniece Erica Funk of Dublin; cousins, Ernie, Rachel, Breanna and Aaron Peak, all of Mt. Holly, N.C., Dane Peake of Roanoke, Jim and Sherry Moore, Shannon and Charlee Jackson, all of Pulaski, Matilda Astin and Juanita Stroupe, both of Max Meadows; special friends, David and Terri Viars, Nancy Lovell and Charles Adams, all of Max Meadows; and several other relatives and friends.
