She is survived by her husband, Mario Esquivel; six daughters, Martha Repass, Dalia Ortiz, Rocio Dale, Mariela Esquivel, Ana Olascoaga, and Adriana Smith; three sons, Juan Carlos Esquivel, Jesus Esquivel, and David Esquivel; brothers and sisters, Cocepcion Rodriguez, Margarita Valle, Santiago Gongora, Ruben Gongora, Gregorio Gongora, and Carmen Gongora; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Thelma Caviness Leedy Sanders, 83, of Wytheville, Va., died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, after a short illness.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. in the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Bob Carbary officiating. Interment will be in West End cemetery, Wytheville, Va.
She was born March 25, 1920, in Carroll County, Va. She was a member of Cedar Hill United Methodist Church where she served for 44 years as the home-hospital visitation representative and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Allen Randolph Leedy; parents, Jesse James and Martha Puckett Caviness; two brothers, Raymond Caviness and Edward Caviness; and four sisters, Edna Caviness, Lois Caviness, Nettie Nelson and Cora Westmoreland.
Survivors include her husband, George G. Sanders; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Leedy and Tom Osborne of Troutville, Va., and Sharon Sanders and Andy Owens of Pulaski, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Randolph and Joann Leedy of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren, Alan Randolph Leedy, Jennifer Leedy Green, Michelle Osborne Martinovic, Heather Osborne Johnson, Andrew Dow "Drew" Owens III, Ian Graham Owens and George Hayes Owens; and two sisters, Viola Evans and Grace Lawson, both of Wytheville, Va.

James H. "Red" Umberger, 86, of Wytheville, Va., died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral service was held Sunday, Nov. 30, at 8 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel, Wytheville, Va. A graveside service was held Monday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. at the Lebanon Lutheran Church cemetery.
He was a son of the late Lefley Harlow and Minnie Corvin Umberger.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Sexton Umberger; a daughter and a son-in-law, Mary U. and David A. Jonas; fours sons and daughters-in-law, James H. and Linda Umberger, Charles T. and Carol Umberger, Lefley W. and Iretta Umberger, and Kenneth G. and Joan Umberger; 11 grandchildren, Ronnie Umberger, Teresa James, Charles Umberger Jr., Diane Wright, Stephanie Umberger, Deborah J. Michael Lee Neal, 51, of Bland, Va., died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Cravens-Shire Funeral Home in Bluewell, W.Va., with the Rev. Jim Conley officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, W.Va. The Mercer County Veterans Council will conduct military graveside rites.
Born Jan. 28, 1952, in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of the late Hubert and Shirley Lawson Neal, who were his adopted parents. He had lived in Bland for the past 16 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Marines.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Krondon Neal of the home; a son, Zachary Neal of the home; a daughter, Cari Neal of the home; his natural mother, Marie Delivak of Irving, Texas; three brothers, Roger Lovill of Irving, Texas, Minesse Lovill of Delaware, and Dana Coeburn of Bluefield, W.Va.; and a sister, Ginney Thompson of Staunton, Va.
The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cravens-Shire Funeral Home, Bluewell, W.Va.

Clifton Ray "Pap" Viars Sr., 84, of Max Meadows, Va., died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Max Meadows Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Dallas Jewell and the Rev. N.R. Taylor officiating. Interment will be in the Viars Family cemetery.
He was born March 17, 1919, in Wythe County, Va. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ocie Viars; his parents, William Lee and Dolly Tilson Viars; three sisters, Gracie, Les and Maude; one brother, Bruce; and one son-in-law, Roger.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Trish Viars, and Tony and Carolyn Viars, all of Max Meadows, Va.; three daughters and son-in-law, Judy Haywood, Patty Burnett, and Dolly and Carson Viars, all of Max Meadows, Va.; eight grandchildren, Billy, Rodney, Rocky, Timmy, Sherry, Joey, Chico and Kim; nine great-grandchildren, Marty, Todd, Chelsey, Corey, Cody, Nikki, Jesse, Breanna and Makayla; and several nieces and nephews.

Bertha Bostic Varney, 88, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home, Marion, Va.
Funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel in Marion, Va., with the Rev. Mike Sage and the Rev. Kevin Varney officiating. Burial will be in Wassum cemetery, Atkins, Va.

James Dean "Jimmy" Sexton, 38, of Wytheville, Va., died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Pulaski Community Hospital in Pulaski, Va.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. at the Rosenbaum Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. There will be a private family graveside service following the funeral.
He served as a police officer for the town of Pulaski for eight years and as a police officer for the town of Wytheville for ten years. He was a member of the Rosenbaum Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lolly Sexton; a brother, Rickey Sexton; and a sister, Susan Sexton.
Survivors include his wife, Christie Coltrane Sexton of Pulaski, Va.; four sisters and five brothers-in-law, Rebecca and Kari Sarkijavi, Nancy Sexton and Lewis Stroupe, Debbie and Robert Hancock, Ginger and Paul Cornett, Rodger Fitzgerald, all of Wytheville, Va.; a brother, Charles E. Arthur Campbell Irvin, 89, of the Cedar Springs section of Sugar Grove, Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, in the Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Va.

He was born in Smyth County, Va. He was a member of the Blue Springs United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of the Brunswick Corp. in Marion, Va.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Williams Irvin; and his parents, James Ward and Nellie Kate Kincer Irvin.

Richard Franklin Blalock, 45, of the Marlow community in Anderson County, Tenn., died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Roane Medical Center of Harriman, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Sharp Funeral Home, Oliver Springs, Tenn., with Rev. Ronald Guthrie and Jay Kirby officiating. Burial and graveside services will be held Friday, June 13, at 4 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Tennessee.
He was born April 24, 1958, in Anderson County, Tenn. He was a resident of Bland, Va., for 10 years. He was employed by A.B.B. Power Inc. of Bland, Va., for six years. He was also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Lewis Blalock.
Survivors include a daughter, Jessica Erin Blalock, and her mother, Kathy Walters, both of Clinton, Tenn.; a son, Richard Nathan Blalock, and his mother, Miriam Davis, both of Max Meadows, Va.; his mother, Zella Goodman Blalock of the Marlow community of Anderson County, Tenn.; a brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Janet Blalock of Clinton, Tenn.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sheila Duncan of Knoxville, Tenn., Sue and Jay Woodard of Wilson, N.C., and Bridgette and Jim Goins of Harriman, Tenn.; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Rubye Taylor Creech of Plainfield, Ind., died Monday, June 9, 2003, at her home.
Memorial services will be held Monday, June 16, at 2:30 p.m. at the Plainfield Christian Church. A graveside service will be held at the Bethany United Methodist Church cemetery, Austinville, Va., at a later date.
She was born Aug. 23, 1935, in Austinville, Va. In 1954, she graduated with honors from Radford University at the age of 18. She was employed as an educator, a division manager for a cosmetics firm, and a sales manager. She was awarded the Leasing Manager of the Year award from the Indiana Apartment Association. She retired as a leasing manager from Gene B. Glick Co. in 1999.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hurley and Gertrude Porter Taylor; and a brother-in-law, Curtis Hubble.
Survivors include a companion, Linden Swift; two daughters, Lisa Smith of Falmouth, Maine, and Lin DiRenzo of Vineland, N.J.; two sons-in-law, Peter Smith and Richard DiRenzo; two grandchildren, Elizabeth DiRenzo and Nate DiRenzo; two sisters, Audrey Taylor Register of Memphis, Tenn., and Peggy Taylor Hubble of Pulaski, Va.; and a brother-in law, James Register.

Edgar Otis Harman, 76, of Wytheville, Va., died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 13, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va. Interment will be in the Davis cemetery. American Legion Post No. 9 will conduct graveside military rites.
He was born May 20, 1927 in Rodell, W.Va. He was a retired maintenance worker with Aeroquip and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Patrick and Goldie Williams Harman; a half sister, Mable Jean Fisher; and a half brother, Eldridge Elmo Harmon.
Survivors include his wife, Rosetta Ruth Harman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Judy Harman of Knoxville, Tenn., and Randy and Karen Harman of Bland, Va.; three grandchildren, Brandy Jones, Mark Harman and Zeke Harman; one great-grandchild, Tricia Gaddis; two half sisters and half brother-in-law, Flora Mae Thomas of Wytheville, Va., and Dorothy Ellen and Leon Freeman of Austinville, Va.; one half brother, David D.
