Mr. Bobby R. Owens, age 63, passed away June 17, 2004 in New Port Richey, Florida.
He was born and raised in Abingdon, VA.
Bobby is survived by two daughters, Teresa Blanchard and Kerry Curtis both of New Port Richey, Florida, three grandchildren, three aunts, Dixie Widner, Winston, NC, Dorothy King, Abingdon, VA, Helen Owens, Lebanon, VA, an uncle, A. M. Owens, Bristol, several cousins.
A memorial graveside service will be conducted Monday, August 28, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. in the Knollkreg Memorial Park, Abingdon, VA with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating.
Elsie Marie Hart
Elsie Marie Hart, age 67, died Thursday, May 4, 2006 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Born on May 6, 1938 in Washington County, Virginia, Elsie was a daughter of the late Fred Hunt and Mae Wilson Hunt. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Hunt. Elsie was a former resident of Ohio and had worked as a nursing assistant for many years in Berea, Ohio.
Survivors include her husband, Clifton H. Hart; three sons, Marty Hart and Clifton Hart, Jr. both of Arizona and Jeff Hart of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two brothers, Ernest Hunt of Bluff City, TN and Tom Hunt of Strongsville, OH; two sisters, Toni Rodriguez of Blountville, TN and Linda Linebaugh of Bristol, VA. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Elsie Marie Hart will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Sunday, May 7, 2006 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. John E. Massey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be family members. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P. M. Saturday at the funeral home or any time at her home on Poor Valley Road in Saltville.
Jeffrey Cumbo
Jeffrey Cumbo, age 44, an extremely devoted husband and father, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday, May 2, 2006 while working in the Chesapeake, VA area.Jeff was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harvey and Alta Cumbo, and his maternal grandfather, Wilson Lambert.
He was very involved with his son at the Washington County Little League and was very supportive of his daughter’s work with Wonder Kids Therapeutic Riding Center. Jeff was a member of the Abingdon Presbyterian Church for 31 years. He spent most of his life in Washington County and was a Boilermaker by profession.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Stephanie Cumbo, his children, Dannielle and Jacob, his parents, Claude and Charlotte Cumbo, his grandmother, Ruth Lilley, his father and mother- in- law, Larry and Phyllis Walker all of Abingdon, VA, his brother-in-law, Larry Walker, II, Chelsea, Michigan, his very dear aunt, Brenda Davidson, Salt Lake City, Utah, his very dear uncle, Barry Deel, Tennessee, his two best friends, David Canter and Paul Moss, several other aunts, uncles and cousins.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Bill Leuzinger officiating. Interment will follow the service. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery.
There will be no public visitation in the funeral home, although the family invites you to visit their home at anytime.
Pallbearers will be Larry Walker, II, Robert Turner, Paul Moss, Rodney Warren, Barry Deel, David Canter, Steven Corum, Brian Cole and Bryan Hughes.
Jeff’s wishes were for his family and friends to rejoice at his homegoing to be with his savior, Jesus Christ. His desire is that we have a big celebration of his life in honoring him with a memorial service at 4:00 P. M. Sunday, May 7, 2006 in the Abingdon Presbyterian Church, 18438 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA. A covered dish dinner will follow the service at the church.
Jeff loved children and always wanted a special place for them at his church, so the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Jeff’s memory to the Abingdon Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 18438 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210.
Russell Blake Bentley
Russell B. Bentley age 70 passed away on Saturday May 6, 2006 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Russell was formerly of Buchanan County, having resided in Abingdon for the past 15 years. He was the son of the late Palmer and Lizzie Bentley of Slate Creek and also preceded in death by a sister, Aletha Smith and a brother, Arlan Bentley
Russell leaves behind his wife of 48 years, June Bentley, one daughter, Kim Whaley and her husband, Steve of Haymarket, VA, also one grandson, Jeremy Whaley, one granddaughter, Jessi Whaley, one brother, Charles Bentley and wife, Dolly of Richlands, VA, one sister, Ruth St. Clair of Grundy, VA,
The family will receive friends Monday from 6-9 p. m. in the Macedonia Church of Christ 25350 Watauga Rd, Abingdon, VA, Rt. 77. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Macedonia Church of Christ with Evangelist Michael McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park.

Betty A. Thomas
Betty A. Thomas, 85, of the Bethel Community passed away Saturday, May 6, 2006 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. Born July 16, 1920 to the late Burl and Bina Bailey in Abingdon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reece Odell Thomas. She was the oldest member of the High Point Baptist Church and owned and operated Betty’s Beauty Shop for over 40 years.
Surviving are her children, Larry Thomas and wife Reva of Roanoke, VA, Eunice Odum and husband Hank of Roanoke, VA, Peggy Turner and husband Paul of Daleville, VA, Danny Thomas and wife Dee of Roanoke, VA and Gary Thomas of Abingdon, VA, one sister, Letha Bea Wise of Clinton, Illinois, one brother, Paul Bailey of Abingdon, VA, a very special friend and caregiver, Missy Ashley, many nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday, May 8, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. David Critcher officiating. The family will receive friend Monday from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home. The committal graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Mary Craig Caldwell Rhea
Mrs. Mary Craig Rhea, 96, died Sunday, May 7, 2006, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. A native of Washington County, Virginia, she was a graduate of Radford University. She was a teacher, having taught in Gary, WV, for 20 years, Washington County, VA, for 16 years, and Smyth County for one year. Mrs. Rhea retired in 1974. She was a member of the Historical Society of Washington County, Virginia; Washington County Retired Teachers; United Daughters of the Confederacy; and Daughters of American Revolution. She was also a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Rhea was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Craig Caldwell and Margaret Jane Hall Caldwell, and by her husband, Walter Haynes Rhea. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Hubert L. Caldwell and wife Ellen; John M. Caldwell and wife Maude; James R. Caldwell; R. C. Caldwell and wife Margaret; T. C. Caldwell; and Jack M. Caldwell; one daughter-in-law, Bobbi C. Rhea.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Wilton Max Rhea; her grandsons, David O. Rhea and wife Rebecca; and James W. Rhea; her sisters-in-law, Mary Virginia Caldwell and Laura Rhea Roberts; her great-granddaughter, Lauren A. Rhea; several nieces and nephews; and her special caregivers Rosa L. Salyers, Phyllis Faye Jessee, Ollie B. Thomas and Margie Thomas.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Main Street location of Farris Funeral Service.

Resinol (Reggie) Dollar
Resinol Layton Dollar, Sr., age 65, died at his home on Monday, May 8, 2006. Resinol was born on December 27, 1940 and was a son of the late Dale Hobert Dollar and Mary Dollar Pendergrass. He was a member of High Point Baptist Church. He was an avid baseball fan and was very active with the Abingdon Little League Baseball organization. He had served as coach of the Rotary Phillies and had also coached and served in various other volunteer capacities.
Survivors include his wife Judy Skeen Dollar; his son, Reggie Dollar and wife Elizabeth of Abingdon; his daughter, Elaine Gonzales and husband Hugo of Towncreek, Alabama; his grandchildren Ivannoel Gonzales, Pierre Gonzales, Emma Dollar and his soon to be granddaughter, Ella Dollar.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P. M. Thursday at the Main Street Chapel.
The funeral service for Resinol Layton Dollar, Sr. will be conducted at 3:00 P. M., Friday, May 12, 2006 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Steven Richardson and Rev. David Critcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View United Methodist Church cemetery. Mr. Dollars’ family will receive friends in the conference room of Grace Health Care Center, 600 Walden Road, Abingdon immediately following the graveside burial service.

Claude William Carroll
Mr. Claude William “Dub” Carroll, age 68, died Monday, May 08, 2006, at the Select Specialty Hospital. He was a native of Russell County, Virginia having lived most of his life in Bristol, Virginia. He was the son of the late Emory K. and Eva Harrison Carroll.
Dub was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack Carroll, Cecil Carroll, Bud Carroll, Wayne Carroll and a sister, Gayruth Loudermilk.

Ollie J. Mullins
Mrs. Ollie Jane (Carol) Mullins age 76 passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Wise County, VA and had resided in Michigan for 40 years before moving to Abingdon in 1991. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivory Roy Mullins, three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her children and spouses, Terry C. and Nancy Mullins, Grass Lake, Michigan, John Roy and Lisa Mullins, Howell, Michigan, Susan and Jim DeRudder, Mt. Vernon, Indiana, her brother, Kenneth Sturgill, Pound, VA, her sister, Audrey Goodman, Norton, VA, her twin sister, Edna Meade, Abingdon, VA, her sister and spouse Hazel and MD Pilkenton, Norton, VA, her sister, Jean Haynes, Norton, VA, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Malcolm Virgil Gobble
Malcolm Virgil Gobble, age 66, died Friday, May 12, 2006 in the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. Virgil was the oldest child of Normal Gobble and the late Aslee Stewart Gobble. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eveline Lilly Gobble. He was a longtime auto dealer and salesman in Bristol and the surrounding areas and was a U. S. Army Veteran.
Survivors in addition to his father include his son Gregory T. Sally Mae Widener
Mrs. Sally Mae Widener, age 60, died Saturday, May 13, 2006. She was a native of Russell County, Virginia having lived most of her life in Glade Spring, Va.
She is survived by her husband, James Widener; three sons, Harold Galloway of Glade Spring, David Galloway of Bland, Harvey Hall, U. S. Army; two daughters, Kathy Crawford, Jonesville and Rosie Galloway; a step son, Robert Widener of Glade Spring; two brothers, Burl Ison of New Castle and Junior Ison of Kingsport; two sisters, Margie Stevens of Salisbury, NC and Mary Snapp of Lexington, NC; five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends anytime at their home.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at 11:00 AM in the Rush Creek cemetery. Friends and family are to meet at the cemetery before the service.
Isabell Sullins Ritter
Mrs. Isabel Sullins Ritter, age 97, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2006 in Roanoke, Virginia. Mrs. Ritter had resided in Bristol, Virginia.
Mrs. Ritter was born in Washington County to the late John and Lizzie Mae Harless Sullins. Mrs. Ritter attended Victory Baptist Church in Bristol, Virginia.
Mrs. Ritter is survived by one son, Mike Ritter of Roanoke, two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Toler and husband, William of Beckley, West Virginia, and Mrs. Peggy Phelps and husband, Roger of Bristol, Virginia. Eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday May 17, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Dr. Rev. Austin Cook officiating. Interment will be held Thursday May 18, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. in Knollkreg Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to assemble at the funeral home by 1:45 P.M. to go in procession to the cemetery.

George Washington Wimmer
Mr. George Washington “Joe” Wimmer, age 86, passed away Monday May 15, 2006 in Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a long and faithful member of Abingdon Church of Christ. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Navy. He was a retired coal miner, and an active member of the Hardee’s ROMEO Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Suel and Alta Wimmer, wife, Corby Goodman Wimmer, three grandchildren, Kimberly Maxwell, Gregory Maxwell, and Samuel Cassity, one brother, Grat Wimmer, and one sister, Julie (Tootsie) Mullins Richardson.
Survivors include three sons, Donald Ray Wimmer and wife Betty, Richlands, Va., Ronald Lee Wimmer and wife, Shirley, Pounding Mill, Va., and Jerry Wayne Wimmer and wife, Sandra, Abingdon, Va., two daughters Carol Maxwell and Peggy Cole of Whitewood, Va., fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. One brother, Bill Wimmer, Whitewood, Va., six sisters: Hazel Andrews, Lenoir, NC, Eva Goodman, Whitewood, Va., Bobby Harper, Flora Homes, Fl., Orphia McCoy, Lecanto, Fl., June Horne, Whitewood, Va., and Shirley Wimmer, Abingdon, Va., and a special friend Oakie Mullins.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday May 18, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abingdon Church of Christ with Mr. Bill Haywood officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va.
