George Warren White
George Warren White, age 93 passed away Friday, September 28, 2007 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Mr. White was born in the Smith Creek Community of Washington County, VA on Nov. 11, 1913. He was the son of Henry White and Maude Harley White. He enjoyed fox hunting, farming, his garden and giving to his neighbors in the Wyndale Community of Washington County. He was a member of the Valley View Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, son Berl L.White, brother, Malcolm White and sister, Maxie Carswell.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ethel Andis White, son Roger White and wife Cecilia, grandson, Lee White and wife Lisa, great granddaughter, Akeyla White, sisters, Francis White, Ruby Andis, Virginia McCroskey and Daisy Wampler,
A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Kenneth Widner officiating. Pallbearers will be Daryll Simcox, Gary Andis, James Duty, Blake Andis, Brad Andis, Wade Andis.
A special thanks and much gratitude to 3rd floor nurses and housekeeping at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

Edith Carol Hunter Baze Worsnop
Edith Carol Hunter Baze Worsnop: Ms. Edith, 84, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, September 27, 2007. She was the precious mother of Diane Baze Holloway. Ms. Edith came to Virginia in 2001 after living for many years in California. She was born on July 15, 1923, was originally from Belfast, Ireland, and immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada with her family at three years of age. She married
a young Air Force Sergeant and eventually made her home in California. Ms. Edith never met a stranger and was loved and respected by all who met her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands F.D. Baze and Harry Worsnop. Her son James Martin Baze went to be with the Lord in 2001.
She has left behind her daughter Diane and caring son-in-law, Steve Holloway of Bristol, VA, and a daughter Colleen Bailey of California. She is also survived by four very caring grandchildren, their spouses and great-grandchildren: Dana and Mike Whidby and their children Michaela and Madisen; Kimberly and Stewart Pack and their children Henry, Simon and Julia; Pamela and Thomas Booher and their children Ethan and Ava; and Jason and Robin Dobbins and soon to be baby Owen; and two grandchildren Diane Russo and Angie Withrow, given to her from her son Jim.
Ms. Edith will be sadly missed by all. A special goodbye from dear friend Judy Gross and others, as well as her puppies Hannah and Max, who were constant daily companions. We love you and will miss you!
A memorial service honoring the life of Ms. Edith will be held Sunday, September 30, 2007, at 7:00 p.m., at Pleasant View United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Goddard officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 – 7:00 at the church prior to the service. Margaret Gwendolyn Pippin
Margaret Gwendolyn Pippin, age 83, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mrs. Pippin was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia and had been a resident of Grace Health Care Center for the past three years. She was a daughter of the late Beatty Mink and Flossie Marshall Mink and was the widow of Kanzo Pippin.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bill Hockett of Meadowview, VA; her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Sue Pippin of Waldorf, MD; her sister Maxine Moore of Hampton, VA; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A. M. Monday, October 1, 2007 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Bob Neace officiating. Burial will follow the service. Those attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 A. M.The family will receive friends after the funeral service at the home of her grand daughter, Amy Fulton, 25493 Trinity Drive in Abingdon. Gladys Jones Kestner Hickok passed away September 21, 2007 and the interment was held September 23, 2007 in Knollkreg Memorial Park.

Mrs. Thelma B. Singleton
Mrs. Thelma B. Singleton, age 75, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Singleton had been an employee of K-Mart in Abingdon.
She is survived by her husband, Feril Singleton; two sons: Dennis Brinegar and wife Becky of Damascus, VA; and Steve Brinegar of Clover, SC; one sister, Lena Stuart of Jefferson, NC; one step-son, Andy Mullins and wife Cindy of Nashville, TN; one grandson, Mike Brinegar; one step-grandson, Roy Casey; four granddaughters: Brandi Brinegar, Sheena Blevins, Monica Brinegar and Stacy Stanley; four great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, November 9, 2007, from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Ashlawn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson, NC.
John Robert Brown
John Robert Brown, 68, passed away Friday, November 30, 2007 in the Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, TN.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, VA and was a Methodist. He had been employed 38 years with Sprint Telephone.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Brown of Abingdon, VA; three sons: David Lee Brown and Larry Wayne Brown, both of Damascus, VA; Randy Allen Brown of Blountville, TN; one daughter, Connie Jane Brown of Greeneville, TN; one step-son, Mark Lynn Cook of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren: Greg Miller, Derek Brown, Travis Brown and wife, Hilary, Jamie Brown, Shannon Walton and special friend, Todd Standfield, Seth Cook, Ethan Cook; and one great-grandchild, Carter Brown.
The funeral service for Mr. Brown will be conducted Saturday, December 1, 2007, at 8:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Leonard Smith and Rev. Fred Minnick officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
The committal service will be conducted Sunday, December 2, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Those attending are asked to assemble at the mausoleum by 10:55 a.m. Pallbearers will be all former and present Sprint-Embarq Technicians.

Domonta O’Brian Milliner, 5 month old son of Keith Milliner and Ashley Porter passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007 in the Community Hospital of Roanoke.
Remaining survivors include his maternal grandmother, Pat Storie, Chilhowie, VA, maternal grandfather, Rick Porter, Glade Spring, VA, paternal grandfather, Richard Milliner, Roanoke, VA, an uncle, Chris Milliner, Roanoke, VA.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Melvin Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1-2 p.m. in the funeral home.
William Edley Blair
Mr. William Edley Blair, age 66, of Bristol, Tennessee past away Thursday, March 29, 2007 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Blair was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee on July 13, 1940 to the late Edley and Elizabeth Bott Blair. Mr. Blair had served in the United States Army Reserve and was a former employee of United Inter Mountain Telephone Company and he did electrical testing for Raytheon Corporation of Bristol, Tennessee.
Mr. Blair is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Blair, two daughters, Tracy and Michelle, one step-daughter, Melissa Hutton and husband, Rick Wilson of Bristol, Tennessee, one brother, Randall Blair of Atlanta, Georgia, one sister, Louise Dye of Bristol, Tennessee, one sister-in-law, Barbra Baird of Bristol, Tennessee, one nephew, Scott, and one niece, Melissa. Mr. Blair is also survived by his loving and faithful dog, Diamond.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, April 1, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Timothy Stevens officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Wilson, Michael Offield, Aaron Baird, Daniel F. Lee, Daniel K. Lee, David Powell, and Clarence Stevens.

Eva Ardena Sharitz Snavely
Eva Ardena Sharitz Snavely, age 95, died Saturday, March 31, 2007 in the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, VA.
Mrs. Snavley was a well known retired merchant of Meadwoview. She was born in Wythe County, VA on June 7, 1911, a daughter of the late Elmer Sharitz and Nannie Williams Sharitz. She moved to Washington County with her late husband, J. Lee Snavely and his family in 1929. Together they established Snavely’s Store in 1930. She was a loyal and dedicated member of Mountain View Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by her son, Frank Snavely, four brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Sam Snavely and wife Margaret of Bristol, VA and Jack Snavely and wife Betty of Meadowview, VA; her daughters, Gay Farmer, Betty Lee Dye and Marie Yeatts and husband John all of Abingdon; her daughter-in-law Frances Snavely of Salem, VA; her sister, Betty Harlan of Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and her roommate, Ida Blevins, of Valley Health Care Center.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 9:00 P. M. Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service or any time at the home of her son, Jack Snavely. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sherrill Dunn and Rev. Dan Birchfield officiating. Burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Calvin T. Jones
Mr. Calvin T. Jones, age 77, a well-known resident of Wyndale Road, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tennessee.
He was born in Montello, Wisconsin, on November 13, 1929, a son of the late William McKinley Jones and the late Eva Mae Sheils Jones. He lived most of his life in the Abingdon area and attended Greendale Chapel. He was a retired employee of Virginia Department of Transportation with 43 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, McCabe Lodge No. 56.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Hester Grubb Jones, and three brothers, James Jones, Paul Jones, and William Russell Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie (Kathy) Jones of Abingdon; one brother, Charles G. Jones of Abingdon; two sisters, Myrtle A. Jones and Mrs. Richard (Dora Mae) Eggers both of Abingdon; three-step-sons, Joe E. Romans and wife Erica of Bristol, Tennessee, Brian K. Romans and wife Tracy of Bristol, Virginia, and Roger Lee Romans and wife Trinity of Bristol, Virginia; three step-Grandchildren, Britney Romans, Kaley Romans, Chandler Romans, and a special grandson to be born July 5, 2007, Carter Romans; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Calvin T. Jones will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Monday, July 2, 2007, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers and the Rev. Doug Findley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral service. The graveside service will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Relatives and friends are asked to assembly at the cemetery at 10:50 A.M. Lisa Payne Nestor
Lisa Payne Nestor, 50, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at her home in Farmington, Connecticut. Born in Alexandria, VA, on January 10, 1957, she was the daughter of Mary Sue (Young) Payne of Emory, and the late Joseph Payne. She was raised in Williamsburg, VA, attended Emory & Henry College, and received her undergraduate degree from William & Mary. She went on to receive her graduate degree in chemistry from Princeton University. She began her teaching career at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass; she later moved to Connecticut and was a professor in the chemistry department at Trinity College at the time of her death.
Mrs. Nestor is survived by her husband, James Richard Nestor of Farmington, Conn.; her mother, Mary Sue (Young) Payne of Emory, VA; her brother, Phillip Payne and wife Robin of Richmond, and their children, Jack and Evelyn Payne; a stepson, Dr. Patrick James Nestor and wife Linda of Bellingham, WA; a stepdaughter, Maureen Sherman and husband Dr. Jonathan Sherman of Asheville, NC; and seven step-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Lisa Payne Nestor will be held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at Emory & Henry Chapel with the Rev. David St. Clair officiating. A reception for friends and family will be held immediately after the service at her mother’s home in Emory.

Edith Spears Rasnake
Edith Spears Rasnake, age 84, died Monday, January 29, 2007 at her home.
Born on December 23, 1922 in Wise County, Virginia, Edith was a daughter of the late William Spears and Martha King Spears. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years Leslie Remire Rasnake and her loving daughter-in-law, Mary Rasnake.
Edith was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was a beloved member of her community. She retired from the Statzer-Stout Cafe where she had been employed for over 30 years.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Martin Monahan and the staff of Johnston Memorial Hospital, the staff of Hospice of Southwest Virginia and the volunteers and staff of Meals on Wheels for the contribution they gave towards the care and quality of life for Edith.
Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Rasnake of Abingdon and Ginger Holmes and husband Preston of Damascus; her sons, Robert Spears and wife Dollie, Ronald Rasnake, Curtis Rasnake and wife Diana and Danny Rasnake and wife Nancy all of Abingdon; her brothers-in-law, Homer Honaker, Carson Rasnake and Dewey Rasnake; her sisters in-law Helen Spears and Lettie Perry; 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P. M. Wednesday, January 31, 2007 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Thursday in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Bob Neace officiating. Burial will follow the service. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
