Ellen Kathryn Thomas
“When I left, I left a testimony pleasing to the Lord.”
Ellen Kathryn “Granny” Thomas, age 77, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2007, at her home in Meadowview. A native of Washington County, Virginia, she was daughter of the late Samuel Leslie Coe and Annie Lucille Thomas Coe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Blackwell, and her brother, William Coe. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. George Thomas, Jr.; her son, George S. Thomas (Francis) of Abingdon; her daughters: Mildred Henley (James) of Abingdon; Becki Rutter (Sam) of Shady Valley, TN; and Bonnie Woodward (Glenn) of Denver, NC; her brothers: Robert Coe of Monterey, TN; Randall Coe of Dover, DE; Charlie Coe of Glade Spring; and Kyle Coe of the Friendship Community; her sister, Margaret Blevins of Chilhowie, VA; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
To all the hospice workers who cared for her, Mrs. Thomas says, “I love you all.”
The family of Mrs. Thomas will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 19, 2007, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, or anytime at the home of her son George S. Thomas, 25456 Old Saltworks Road, Abingdon. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Adam Blackwell, Brother Glenn Woodward, Rev. Garnet Rogers, and Rev. Robert Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Glade Baptist cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Phillippi, Jamie Phillippi, Glenn Woodward II, Ronnie Henley, Jeff Cross and Gerry Collins.

Jim C. Spearry
Jim C. Spearry, 67, of Omaha passed away Thursday, November 15, 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, Jason and Jessica of Omaha, NE, J. C. and John of Cleveland, Ohio; his mother, Freda Spearry of Wellston; Ohio, 5 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon, VA with Pastor Sam Haynes officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 20, 2007 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Florence Havens
Mrs. Florence Havens, age 92, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007. A native of New Jersey, she was a former resident at Ft. Shelby Manor and most recently had resided at Abingdon Manor. She was the widow of Raymond Ellsworth Havens, Jr.
She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Charlesworth of Millville, NJ, and Richard Havens of Springfield, KY; and by a step-son, Milton Havens of Vine Grove, KY.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2007, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA.
Jamie Oscar White, Jr.
James Oscar “Jamie” White, Jr., age 23, died Wednesday, November 21, 2007. He ended a short life here on earth to begin a new life in heaven with his Heavenly Father.
He began his life living in Lebanon, VA and attended Belfast Elementary School. The Majority of his life, he lived in Abingdon where he attended Abingdon Elementary School, Abingdon Middle School and graduated from Abingdon High School in 2002.
Jamie was a wonderfully kind, honest, loving and compassionate son, brother, and uncle.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Clyde William “Jack” White of Abingdon, VA.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Pat Litton and husband Patrick of Abingdon; his father, James Oscar White, Sr. and wife Leila of Abingdon; his sisters, Jennifer Steffey and Andrea Brown (with whom he resided) both of Abingdon; his step-sisters, Lynn Litton of Orlando, FL and Ashley Alison of Wytheville, VA; his step-brother, Adam Guy of Abingdon; his loving nieces and nephew, Taylor Steffey, Iszabella Steffey, Sarah Steffey and Sean Spencer all of Abingdon; his paternal grandmother, Della Mae White of Abingdon; his maternal grandparents, Harry and Sally Horton of Lebanon, VA; his aunt, Bonnie Ray of Richlands, VA; his uncles, Clyde William “Jackie” White, Jr. of Hopewell, VA, Mike White of Meadowview, VA and Steve Horton of Wise, VA; his cousins, Jessee Horton, Adam Horton, Doug Ray, Randall Ray and William White; many more loving family members and a host of special friends to hold fast to his memory.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:45 P. M. Saturday, November 24, 2007 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 P. M. Saturday with Mr. Steve Horton speaking. The committal and interment service will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Sunday at the graveside in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 1:40 P. M. Sunday for the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jessee Horton, Adam Horton, Doug Ray, Randall Ray, Adam Guy and William White.
Irene Jones Tuggle
Mrs. Irene Jones Tuggle, 73, died Friday November 23, 2007 at Valley Health Care in Chilhowie. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and attended Greendale Chapel. She was a daughter of the late Luther Lee and Chaucy Osborne Morrison. She was the widow of John Tuggle and preceded in death by two brothers, David Morrison and J. C. Morrison; and one sister, Vonda Rutter. She worked at Bristol Compressors for twenty-five years.
She is survived by her son, Robert H. Jones, Jr. and wife Tracey of Athens, Alabama; two brothers, Dewey Morrison and Bill Morrison of Abingdon; five sisters, Birdie Carr and Gladys Morrison of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mary O. Morrison of Damascus, and Patty Megginson and Barbara Johnson of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday, November 26, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. Burial will follow in the Henderson Family cemetery in Poor Valley. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Morrison, Tony Luttrell, Ed Megginson, Robert Davis, Larry Johnson, and Sam Rutter. Honorary pallbearers will be David Osborne and Louie Rutter.
Richard David Ball
Richard David Ball, age 48, passed away Friday, November 23, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Ball was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Dean and Hazel Cletis Nunley Ball; his grandmother, Gladys Ball.
He is survived by his sisters & brothers-in law: Joyce & Bobby Spriggs and Sara and John Denton all of Abingdon, Va. Nieces: Susan Spriggs, Lillian Spriggs, Angela Lisk, and Angie Statzer (who was also his best friend). Nephew: Bobby Spriggs, III.
The family wants to thank Highlands Community Services & Day Support and Dr. Jonathan Swank. Special thanks to Deborah, Phil, and Cindy.
Funeral services were held at 5:00 P.M. Saturday, November 24, 2007 in the Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Rick Cuddy officiating.
Bobby Ray Wolfe
Mr. Bobby R. Wolfe, age 66, went to be with his Lord and savior on Sunday, November 25, 2007 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Wolfe was born August 3, 1941 in Washington County, Virginia to the late Ervin L. Wolfe and the late Elise Ingle Wolfe. He was a retired employee of the Town of Abingdon with 25 years of service.
Besides his parents Mr. Wolfe is preceded in death by two brothers; J.D. Wolfe and Hershel Wolfe.
Mr. Wolfe is survived by his wife, Carolyn L. Wolfe; one daughter, Kimberly Robin Wolfe and husband Darrin McBride of Bristol, VA; one son, Ervin Ray Wolfe and wife, Ginger of Abingdon, VA; grandson, Austin Wolfe of Abingdon, VA; three step-children; Rita Able and husband, Ben of Abingdon, VA; Bill Worley of Bristol, TN; Dawn Crosswhite and husband, Kenny of Meadowview, VA; two sisters, Florence Arnold and husband, C.H.; Gladys Whitaker and husband, Willie; three brothers, Garland Wolfe and wife, Mary; Egbert Wolfe and wife, Lantha, and Kenneth Wolfe all of Abingdon, VA, nine step-grandchildren and one step great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 27, 2007 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor David Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM on Tuesday in the funeral home. The committal service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 28, 2007 in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Everyone wishing to attend is asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:45 AM. Pallbearers will be Rob Herndon, Darrell Whitaker, Garland C. Wolfe, John Doss, Brett Whitaker, and Frankie Fulton.
Mary Virginia Bussey
Mary Virginia Bussey, age 86, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2007 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a resident of Washington County almost all of her life and was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Bussey and a grandson, Roger Ornduff.
She is survived by three sons, Lewis Bussey, Elizabethton, TN, Luther Bussey, Abingdon, VA, and Gaines Bussey, Tulsa, Oklahoma, three daughters, Helen Simcox and husband, Harmon, Bristol, TN, Betsy Fraker and husband, Kendal, Bristol, TN, Virginia Ernst, Atlanta, GA, a sister, Nancy Broyles, Abingdon, VA, 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will held Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Knollkreg Memorial Park with Pastor Don Smith officiating.
Those attending can assemble at the cemetery by 1:55 p.m. on Thursday. There will no visitation in the funeral home.
Madeline B. Robinson
Mrs. Madeline B. Robinson, age 84, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2007 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was born August 9, 1923 in Smyth County, Virginia to the late John J. Bennett and the late Margaret Lou Tipton Bennett. Mrs. Robinson was a former postal service employee and insurance agent in Saltville, VA and retired as a secretary from VMI. She was a Presbyterian.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Robinson and one brother, James I. Bennett of Huston, TX.
Mrs. Robinson is survived by one brother, John J. Bennett of Simms, Montana; two sisters, Frances B. Pippin, Bristol, VA and Wanda B. Thomas, Glade Spring, VA, numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted Monday, December 3, 2007 at 7:00 p. m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Reverend Tim Bird officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
The committal service will be conducted Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Old Glade Presbyterian Church cemetery, Glade Spring, VA.
Those attending are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday.

Chester Leroy Bailey
MR. CHESTER LEROY BAILEY, 76, died Tuesday November 27, 2007 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and attended First Freewill Baptist Church in Mountain City and Spoongap Freewill Baptist in Abingdon. He was the son of the late Harrison Benjamin and Millie Gay Miller Bailey. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dewey Bailey, J. B. Bailey, and Vertsie Bailey; and two sisters, Bertha Moore and Nellie Saltz.
He is survived by one brother, Virgil Bailey of Abingdon; two sisters, Pansy Mitchell of Covington, Georgia and Christine Forbes of Mountain City; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Herbert Bailey and the Rev. Billy Jones officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 6:00 p.m. The committal service will be Friday, November 30, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Knollkreg Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m. There will be no procession from the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Don Bailey, Barry Bailey, Roy Mitchell, Jr., Claude Graybeal, James Wyatt, and Kenneth Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Bartley, Buddy Parris, Steve Gregory, Michael Stout, Jack Lell, Mike Wilson and Edward Saltz.
Mary Lou Skeens
Mrs. Mary Lou Skeens, 64, passed away Friday, October 5, 2007 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mary Lou loved the outdoors and especially working in her flowers. She loved people, animals and enjoyed praying for all of those who needed prayer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Edward Williams and Emer Lou Hendrix Williams.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Lee Skeens, Mendota, VA, a daughter, Vickie Welch and husband Jimmy Welch, Fairview, NC, three sisters, Lula Mae Greenman and husband, Dale Greenman, Abingdon, VA, an aunt, Zora Gibson, an aunt and uncle, Blanche Phillips and Bobby Phillips, three grandchildren, Skylar, Kaitlyn and Kyle, a niece, Perina Rodriquez and husband, John Rodriquez, a nephew, Jimmy Lee Tearce and wife, Vicky Tearce.
The family will conduct a memorial service Monday, October 8, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the Midway Church of the Living God with Pastor David Gibson officiating.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following service at the church.
