BURNETTE
Betty Fisher Burnette died on August 23, 2001. She was the daughter of the late, Roy H. and Clara J. Fisher of Blackstone. She is survived by her husband, Donald G. Burnette; two sons, Donald G. Jr. and his wife, Susan, and Gregory F. Burnette, all of Richmond; three grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda and Gray III Burnette. Also surviving is a brother, Charles M. Fisher and his wife, Maria of Blackstone. She was predeceased by a brother, E.L. Fisher of Portsmouth, his wife, Audrey survives. Mrs. Fisher was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 45 years, an avid supporter of Douglas Freeman High School sports and was presented a special award by its Boosters Club in 1975 in recognition for her contributions. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 25 in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richmond Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

David Franklin Butler, 33, of Midlothian, died Wednesday, August 22, 2001. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ann Butler and is survived by his wife, Brandy Butler; two sons, Garrett Coleman Butler and Carson Steele Butler; two sisters, Tricia Montoney, Sherry Branham; his proud in-laws, Larry and Beth Dunn; a sister-in-law, Dallas Dunn; and a uncle, David Coleman. COLE
Iven Martin Cole, CDR, USNR (ret.) and an American Airlines Captain, passed away suddenly at his residence, "Journey's End" in Powhatan August 21, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ellen Cole; his son, Michael Cole. He was the son of Shirley Stonnell Cole and the late Hugh T. Cole Jr. Also surviving are five brothers, Taylor, Rick, David, Billy and John Cole; two sisters, Suzanne Tompkins and Sandy Nelms; many nieces and nephews and friends from all over the country. Iven was a 1971 graduate of University of Virginia. He was a Navy veteran assigned as a P-3 "Orion" pilot in the Pacific. He was a member of Navy Reserve Squadron VP-68 and retired with twenty-one years of service. He was a Super 80 Captain with twenty-three years of service with American Airlines. Iven's love of family and the university is somewhat legendary. UVA has lost one of it's most avid fans as Iven traveled near and far to cheer on his beloved "Wahoos." His family has lost a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend who will be sorely missed. Iven was also a member of the American Legion, Fleet Reserve Assoc., VP-68 Alumni Assoc., Tailhook Assoc., Powhatan Moose Lodge #1840, Virginia Student Aid Foundation, Virginia Alumni Assoc., a life long member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and a member of the Vestry and served as Sr. Warden for one term. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church Parrish House, 2245 Huguenot Trail Rd., Powhatan. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Interment church cemetery. Sheila W. Copeland (Shelly), 61, of Alexandria, Va., died on August 19, 2001. Beloved wife of Kenneth E. Copeland Sr. D.D.S.; loving mother of Deena Reilly and Jeffrey Weiss; sister of Gale Hueller; grandmother of Michael and Kevin Reilly. Ludwig and Elmer E. Fugett. She was preceded in death by her sister, Christine Hill. She is survived by her sons, Richard V. Jr. Grantham and his wife, Patricia, Gary W. Grantham and his wife, Monetta; sisters, Suella Gowan, Elizabeth Grisham and Mildred Buffaloe; brothers, Cordie Holland Jr., Daniel Holland and Harley Holland; grandson, Joseph Grantham. Tina Margaret Holley, 56, of Midlothian, died Wednesday, August 22, 2001 following a brief illness. Mrs. Holley is survived by her husband, Charles Holley; two daughters, Lynda Holley and Nicole Holley-Shero; two sons, Michael and Marc Holley; brothers, Richard and Michael Savasta; several aunts, uncles, and a niece and nephew. Originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Holley was an English teacher at Midlothian High School. Karen Hadad Laliberte, 50, formerly of New Kent County, died August 14, 2001 in her home at Cape Cod, Mass., surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and "best friend." She loved to travel to warm places, especially Key West. Survived by her husband of 34 years, David Laliberte; two sons, Grant and Jon Laliberte, both of Sandwich, Mass.; and a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Joe Hamel of Hyannis, Mass.; a brother, Ronald Hadad of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Gayned Hadad and Virginia Friedman, also of Richmond, Va.; several nieces and nephews and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 24, 2001, in Sandwich, Mass. Ola Murray Martin, a native of Beaverdam, Va., died August 21, 2001 at the Hermitage Methodist Home, Richmond, Va. Mrs. Martin, a former commercial education teacher in the Hanover County Public Schools, the Richmond Public Schools and the Charles County, Md. Public Schools, was a graduate of Mary Washington College. Born August 14, 1910, she was the widow of the late Dr. Thomas Carlyle Martin, who was the superintendent of the Charles County, Md. Schools, and the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Alexandria Eston Murray of Beaverdam. Mrs. Martin was the founder of the Future Business Leaders of America Chapter at Henry Clay High School in Ashland, Va. and a member of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, where she served as secretary of the Scotchtown Committee. Mrs. Martin was an active member of Beaverdam United Methodist Church. Surviving are Susan Weems-Leachman of Ashland, Va., John Williamson Talley of Atlanta, Ga., Beatrice Talley Weems Leachman Cope, Thomas Keith Leachman Jr., Alice McGehee Talley, Margaret Venable Talley Mepham, Elizabeth Taliaferro Talley Wagner, Virginia Walker Talley, Mary Elizabeth Bishop, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Adams of Sykesville, Md. and Elizabeth Blunt Staton.
