Hazel Young, 83 passed away Friday, January 23, 2009 in the Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie, VA.
A graveside service will be conducted Monday, January 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Reverend John E. Massey, Jr. officiating.
Margaret Helen Campbell
Margaret Helen Hurley Campbell, 83, beloved wife, mother, and “Nana”, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 6, 2009 at her home in Abingdon.
She was born April 18, 1925 and was a daughter of the late, James Wiley and Dora Gambill Hurley. She was a day care provider to many children in Washington County for over 30 years. She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, William R. Hurley and James Harold Hurley; and a daughter, Sandra Campbell Gobble.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert F. “Bob” Campbell; her daughter, Connie C. Mitchell and husband, Mike of Abingdon; a brother, Bobby R. Hurley and wife, Glenna of Marion, VA; and a sister-in-law, Betty Hurley of Abingdon. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Terry Stiltner and husband, Mark, Shannon Stacy and husband, Chuck, Jeremy Mitchell and wife, Sara, Bridget Mitchell, and Kayla Mitchell; great grandchildren, Brittany and Devynne Stiltner, Cory and Ashley Stacy; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Helen Campbell will be conducted at 8:00pm Saturday, March 7, 2009 in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Graybeal and Rev. Paul T. Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 7:45pm Saturday. The committal service will be Sunday, March 8 at 3:00pm at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Farris Funeral Service by 2:40pm. Pallbearers will be Shawn Roark, Jeremy Mitchell, Chuck Stacy, Mark Stiltner, Johnny Stiltner, Bill Hampton, and George Gobble.
Friends may call at the home of Connie and Mike Mitchell.

Willie C. Casey
Willie C. “Bill” Casey, 86, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009 in Salem, Virginia.
He was born January 8, 1923 in Washington County, Virginia and was a son of the late John Wesley and Minnie Yaunce Casey. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater with Company “A”, 47th Armored Infantry Division.
He is survived by his daughter, Gail Casey Blevins of Abingdon, VA; a grandson, Marty Blevins and wife, Lora; two great grandsons, Nathaniel Lynn Blevins and Benjamin Michael Blevins; great granddaughter, Kristin Danielle Gil and husband, Miguel; and great-great grandson, Logan Gabriel Gil, all of Anderson, SC. Also surviving are five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00pm Tuesday, March 10, 2009 in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Norris officiating. The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6:00pm until 7:45pm Tuesday. A committal service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, March 11 in Rosedale Baptist Church cemetery in Meadowview, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Henry Stidham
Mr. Henry Stidham, age 69, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at his home.
Born in Kentucky on June 30, 1939, Henry was a son of the late Henry H. Stidham and Mary Austin Stidham. He was the owner and operator of Stidham Automotive Center and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bristol, VA.
Survivors include his wife Priscilla Stidham; his daughter, Greta Middendorf and husband Terry; his sons, Vince Stidham and wife Connie and Jeff Stidham and wife April; his grandchildren, Beth Mabe, Zack Stidham, Nick Stidham, Will Soublo II, Francesca Soublo, Rachel Stidham and Laura Stidham.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Saturday, March 14, 2009 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Jeff Carrico officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The Family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Nell Singleton Williams
Nell Singleton Williams, age 78, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA.
Nell was born on April 5, 1930 and was a daughter of the late A. R. Singleton and Erie Sykes Singleton. She was also preceded in death by her husband Chris Williams; her son, Benny Williams; her brother, Bob Singleton and her sister, Bernice Ledford. She had lived most of her life in Bristol, Virginia.
Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Williams of Detroit, MI and Andy Williams and wife Kay of Abingdon; her daughter, Emma Whitesel and husband Steve of Waxhaw, NC; her brothers, Bill Singleton and wife June of Abingdon and Fred Singleton of Saltville, VA; her sisters, Thelma Willis of Bland, VA and Betty Burchette of Nashville, TN; a special friend, Bobby Tate of Abingdon; her grandchildren, Ashley Williams, Brett Williams, Cody Whitesel and Chloe Whitesel and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Monday, March 16, 2009 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Elder Danny Smith and Elder Darrell Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandson Brett Williams, her son-in-law Steve Whitesel, Dennis Singleton, Sr., Dennis Wayne Singleton, Jr., Barry Burchette, Tommy Tate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P. M. Sunday at the funeral home.
Alice Frazier
Alice Johnson Widener Frazier, age 73, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2008 at the Francis Marion Manor in Marion, VA.
Alice was born on November 21, 1935 in Smyth County Virginia and was a daughter of the late Rev. Joseph Henry Johnson and Lydia Davenport Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her brother Otis and her sisters Leola and Reba. Alice was a born again Christian of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith and attended services at Carrington Place in Wytheville, VA.
Alice is survived by her son Martin “Marty” Widener and fiancée Linda of Abingdon, VA; her daughters Susan Totten and Sharon Echols and husband Ronnie all of Marion; her sisters Ovelma Snyder of Georgia and Dixie Friend of North Carolina; her granddaughter Jessica Price and husband Stephen; her great-grandson, Dakota Price; several nieces and nephews and “Butterfly” who was her special friend and caregiver at Carrington Place.
A funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 P. M. Monday, March 16, 2009 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Billy Gwinn officiating. The committal and burial service will be held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends before the funeral service on Monday from 6:00 P. M. - 7:20 P. M. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 A. M. Monday. Family and Friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Martin Dave Thomas
Martin Dave Thomas, 60, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a member of Antioch House of Prayer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy having served as a transportation officer. He retired from the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon and worked at Westinghouse for 24 years in the CMCR division. He loved bluegrass music, fishing, and gardening. He was a very strong and faithful Christian that always spoke to his friends about the plan of salvation because he wanted to stroll over Heaven with those he loved. He was preceded in death by his father, Bud Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Riffey Thomas; his mother, Eva Vencill Thomas; his daughter, Scarlet Thomas Gosnell and husband Neal of Brumley Gap; 2 granddaughters, Hallie and Kayla Gosnell, whom he loved very dearly; 2 uncles, Claude Vencill of Abingdon and Jim Vencill of Dundalk, MD; and a very special friend, Butch Bowers, who was like a brother to him.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday, March 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Antioch House of Prayer with Pastor Jason Nunley and the Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. Burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park with graveside honors provided by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Antioch House of Prayer.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Bishop, Dewey Davenport, Walter White, Malcolm Thomas, Claude Cumbow, and L.J. Doss. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Slemp, Kenneth Hayter, Dewey Kiser, members of the Washington Co. and Smyth Co. Sheriff’s Offices, members of the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail, and Dave’s church family.

Eva Laster Harris
Mrs. Eva Laster Harris, 94, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born July 1, 1914 in Roda, Virginia, daughter of the late James Benjamin Laster and Rebecca Grubb Laster. She had been a resident of Bristol for 46 years and was a member of North Bristol Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luie Lafette Harris; her son Luie Lonzo Harris and his wife, Hattie Davis Harris; her daughter Edith Marie Scroggs and her husband, Jennings Scroggs; her grandson Steven Jennings Scroggs; and her sisters, Lelia Laster Woods and Edith Laster Dingus.
Surviving relatives are her son James Benjamin (Sonny) Harris and his wife Mary Price Harris; grandsons Ricky Jerome Harris, Barton Malone Harris and his wife Jenny, and Michael Eugene Scroggs and his wife Denise; granddaughters Debbie Scroggs Price and her husband John, Becky Scroggs Sensky and her husband Carman, Linda Robin Scroggs, Angel Marie Harris, Theresa Harris Entrekin and her husband Joe; great-grandsons Cody Honaker, Chase Sensky, Shane Harris, Braydon Scroggs, and Aaron Harris; great-granddaughters Celeste Honaker, Morgan Sensky Gillenwater and her husband Brandon, Missy Harris, Lauren Harris, Kirstie Sensky, Sami and Sara Entrekin; granddog Summer; sisters Carol Laster Garrison and Reba Laster Kirk; a great-great grandson, Reily Harris Gillenwater and several nieces and nephews.
To honor Mrs. Harris’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. After cremation, there will be a private celebration of Eva’s life.
Ethel Martha Tignor
Ethel Martha Tignor, 85, passed away Monday, March 16, 2009 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia and was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Della Kestner Nunley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Leonard Tignor, four brothers, and three sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She attended Chestnut Grove Community Church.
Survivors are her daughters, Geraldine Reynolds of Abingdon, Beatrice Reynolds and husband, Lester of Abingdon; sons, Billy Tignor and wife, Princess Ann of Bristol, Virginia, David Tignor, Jr. and wife, Linda of Meadowview, Virginia, and Johnny Tignor of Wise, Virginia; and a sister-in-law, Daisy Nunley of Abingdon. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tignor will be conducted at 8:00pm Tuesday, March 17, 2009 in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Olen Cassell, Rev. Clifton Duncan, and Rev. Bill Reynolds officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 7:45pm Tuesday. The committal service will be Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 2:00pm in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Guy D. Blaylock
Mr. Guy D. Blaylock, 70, passed away Tuesday March 16, 2009 in the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, TN.
Guy had lived most of his life in Bristol, VA and was of the Baptist faith.
He was a Veteran of the Korean War having served in the U. S. Army and was a self-employed drywall contractor for forty-five plus years.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann Phipps Blaylock, White Pine, TN, four sons, Ronald R. Wilson and wife Breeze, Iraq, Guy D. Blaylock, Jr., White Pine, TN, Lynn Blaylock and wife Alcyson, Stanley, NC, Michael W. Blaylock and wife Vickie, New Market, TN, four daughters, Jan Jones and husband Tim, Bonita Springs, Florida, Marie Johnson and husband Harold, Hickory, NC, Libby Fields and husband Mike, Bristol, VA, Teresa Carroll, Kingsport, TN, two brothers, Ronnie Blaylock, Falls Church, VA, Richard Blaylock, Bristol, TN, a sister, Sarah Pullon, Bristol, VA, nineteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, March 20, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral (19415 Lee Highway) with Reverend Floyd Nelson officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Clyde Earl Cole
Clyde Earl Cole, 80, passed away Friday, March 20, 2009 in Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, TN.
He was born January 26, 1929 and was a son of the late Arthur A. and Pauline Starke Cole. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia and a Member and Deacon of Suburban Christian Church in Bristol. Clyde was a caring and loving man who enjoyed people and especially loved children. He loved being outdoors where he could be closer to all God’s creation. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Leona Cole; brothers, Jack S. Cole William A. Cole; sister, Peggy Ann Widner; and nephew, Gregory Cole.
Survivors are his wife, Lucille Morgan Cole; a step daughter, Janice Jessee and husband, Fred of Bristol, TN; a step granddaughter, Jana Jessee of Bristol, TN; and brother, Dan Cole of Roanoke, Virginia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Clyde Cole will be conducted at 1:00pm Monday, March 23, 2009 at Suburban Christian Church, 20290 Wood Howell Road, Bristol, VA with Minister Richard Pannell and Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. View cemetery in Bristol, VA. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Smith, Eddie Edwards, Randy Noonchester, Eddie Mullins, Bill Duncan, Scot Cole and Jim Cook

Billy Joe Tignor
Billy Joe Tignor, 55, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Billy had lived most of his life in Washington County, VA and had attended the Chestnut Grove Community Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Ethel Martha Tignor and a brother, Cecil Tignor.
Survivors include his wife, Princess Ann Tignor, Bristol, VA, a son, Billy Tignor, Bristol, VA, a daughter, Martha Ann Tignor Williams, Meadowview, VA, two brothers, David Tignor, Jr. and wife, Linda, Meadowview, VA, Johnny Tignor, Wise, VA, two sisters, Geraldine Reynolds, Abingdon, VA, Beatrice Reynolds and husband Lester, Abingdon, VA, two grandchildren, Colby Austin Williams and Devin Williams.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA.

Estel Robert Hash
Mr. Estel Robert Hash, 83, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at home with his daughters by his side. He fought a brave fight against cancer and will be grievously missed by his family, his church, his friends, and his community.
He was born August 9, 1925 in Bluefield, West Virginia to the late William R. and Alice V. Ashley Hash. He grew up in Green Cove and moved to the Washington D. C. area where he lived and worked until he moved back to Abingdon in 2001.
On January 30, 1948, he married
Marjory Mae McAfee Hash who preceded him in death on July 23, 2006. He was a member of Gospel Tabernacle Church in Abingdon. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the European theatre during World War II where he received two Purple Hearts. He was a life member of VFW Post 9830 and the American Legion Post 135. He was also a member of the 94th Infantry Association, Chesapeake chapter, past President of the Lions Club in Maryland, a member of the Abingdon Civitan Club, board member of the Abingdon Senior Citizens, and a member of the Green Cove Senior Citizens.
Mr. Hash was a building contractor for many years in the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas and had built many beautiful homes over his long career. He had a passion for creating beautiful things with his hands and was known for his quality work and integrity. Mr. Hash also loved to work in his yard and to be with family and friends. He was very involved with his community.
Mr. Hash was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Everett Monroe Hash and Glenn Booth Hash, and by 1 sister, Margaret Imogine Burnett.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Sandra Estel (Hash) Knox of Merritt Island, FL and Marsha Lynn (Hash) Lavelle of Punxsutawney, PA; 3 brothers, James Orvell Hash of Meadowview, Charles Donald Hash of Damascus, and Conley Randolph Hash of Annandale, VA.; 2 sisters, Bernice Evelyn Barr of Green Cove, and Sally Louise Bronson of McCue, KS; 3 grandchildren, Kelly Lewis, Leslie Hatfield, and Valerie Meyers; 1 great granddaughter, Alexandria Lewis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday, March 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor David Robins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with military rites provided by the Highlands Fellowship Veteran’s Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Glen Wilson, Kelly Lewis, James Hatfield, Bruce Barr, Bobby Barr, and Ronald Hash.
