Elizabeth C. “Liz” Ryan, 23 of Ruther Glen, died Monday September 24, 2007 as the result of a tragic automobile accident. Survivors include her daughter, Ciarra Blount-Ryan; her parents, Charles and Amalia Ryan of Ruther Glen; two sisters, Catherine Gardy and her husband Michael of Pennsylvania and Sarah Ryan of Ruther Glen; a brother, Charles Ryan and his friend Melissa Roth of Pennsylvania; her half brother, Scott Ryan of Pennsylvania; her maternal grandmother, Catherine Scheid of Pennsylvania; aunts and uncles, Nancy and William Tomlinson and Stephen and Linda Scheid; nieces and nephews, Jordan, Devonne and Mikayla Ryan and Jessica Gardy; cousins, Robert Tomlinson, Sherri Dougherty and Bruce and Michael Scheid; her Fiance’, Leonard Reel and her best friend, Lisa Hendricks. Sarah G. Loving, 78 of Sparta, died Monday Sept. 17, 2007 in Bowling Green Health Care Center. Survivors include three children; Tommy Loving of Sparta, Charlotte Doggett of Sparta and Garnett Loving of Ruther Glen; two sisters, Gertrude Adams of Fredericksburg and Ruby Garnett of Aylett; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including one devoted, Mary Ann Tucker and a devoted friend, Bill McClure. She was preceded in death by a son, Brooking Loving. A funeral service will be held Thursday Sept. 20 at 2:00 PM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with burial to follow in Salem Baptist Church cemetery, Sparta. Dale A. Durtche, five year old son of Charm Liming, died Saturday Sept. 8, 2007 in Stafford. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his father, Harry Durtche of New York; his sister, Rachel A. Durtche of the home and his paternal grandfather, Harry Durtche Sr. of New York. The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home Bowling Green, Monday Sept. 17 from 12:00 – 1:30 PM at which time a funeral procession will leave to go to Wrights Chapel cemetery, Ladysmith, for a 2:00 PM graveside service. Patrick “Pat” McLain, 54, of Ruther Glen, died Friday, August 31, 2007 at his home. Born in Ohio, he was a charter member of the Caroline Moose Lodge #2610. Survivors include his wife, Faye A. McLain; three children, Lee McLain of Ruther Glen, Patricia Thompson of Mechanicsville, and Sandi Robinson of Ruther Glen; two sisters, Lynn Arnold and Barbara McLain both of Cincinnati, OH, a brother, Eddie McLain of Sardinia, OH and his twin brother, Preston McLain of Ruther Glen; and five grandchildren, David and Dillon Robinson, Patrick and Logan McLain, and Kelsie Thompson. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, September 2, 2007 in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green with Rev. Charles Tillapaugh officiating. Elsie Burruss Farmer, 91 of Chilesburg, died Thursday August 30, 2007. Born in Caroline, she was a member of Cardinal Baptist Church and the widow of Louie Burruss and Warner Farmer. Survivors include her daughter, Shirley B. Durrett and her husband Warren of Chilesburg; one sister, Evelyn Satterwhite and her husband Preston of Ruther Glen; three grandchildren, Karen Mayo and her husband Mike of Ruther Glen, Kenny Durrett of Richmond and Kristen Booth and her husband Ross of Ashland and four step daughters, Shirley Tipton, Jean Mitchell, Pearl Killinger and Patty Melson. Michael B. Rhyne, Jr., 24, of Montpelier, died Monday, August 20, 2007. He is survived by his loving family and friends. He shined a light on the world that will never be forgotten. Herbert Alton “Shorty” Carter, 84 of Woodford, died Monday August 20, 2007. He was the widower of Myrtle C. Carter, a World War II Army veteran and had retired as a Line Foreman with Rappahannock Electric Co-operative after 37 1/2 years of service. Survivors include five children, Patsy Beazley of Ladysmith, Joyce Stephens, and her husband Kenny of King George, Linda Sheets and her husband Carl of Woodford, June Hall and her friend Jim Longerbeam of Woodford and Wayne Carter and his wife Tina of Woodford; a sister, Elizabeth Finch of Woodford; a brother, Nelson Carter of Spotsylvania; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Corrine Carter, a brother, Everett Carter, sister, Thelma Carter and granddaughter, Tammy Hargett. Nancy L. Enriquez, 68 of Ruther Glen formerly of Woodbridge, died Tuesday August 21, 2007 at her home. Survivors include her husband, Alfonso Enriquez; a son and daughter in law, Robert and Stephanie Enriquez of Anchorage, Alaska; three sisters, Carol Gaddy of Bowling Green; Virginia Whitman of Hoopers Island, Maryland and Joan Turner of Blue Ridge, Virginia; three grandchildren, Robert Jr., Alexandra and Katherine Enriquez. Katherine Finley Blatt, 83, of Milford died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007. She was the recent widow of Wilson M. Blatt and a member of Milford Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Mrs. Blatt had worked for Caroline Social Services, in child services and also as librarian at Ladysmith Elementary School. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Binter and her husband, Randy, of Moorestown, N.J.; three grandchildren, Ashley Trainer and her husband, Jim, of Hawaii, Rebecca Binter of New Jersey and Jennifer Binter of Florida; a brother, Gordon Finley of Wilkesboro, N.C.; nieces and nephews Allen Finley, Cameron Finely, Katie Smithey, Kendal Privette, Carol Finely-Foote, Mary Finley, Lynn Jordan, Tom Blatt III and Kim Grant; and adopted family Mark, Cindy, and Ryan Chounard. A private graveside service was held on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 18, for Mr. and Mrs. Blatt in Lakewood cemetery, Bowling Green. Robert E. Eubank Jr., 67 of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday August 15, 2007 in Mary Washington Hospital. Born in Caroline County, he was the son of the late Robert and Ruby Eubank. Survivors include two sisters, Lorine Eubank of Bowling Green and Lula Pollard of Fredericksburg; a brother, Ralph Eubank of Ruther Glen and several nieces and nephews. Walter C. Brewster, 75, of Ruther Glen, Virginia, formerly of Alexandria died Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Memorial Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Laura Jean Brewster; six children, Karen Brewster of Richmond, Hedy Wuthrich of Fredericksburg, Walter Brewster of Dale City, Thermon Brewster of Alexandria, Stephanie Ledbetter of Alexandria and George Brewster of Manassas; a sister, Bessie Cooper of English, WV; twenty-one grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Barbara Jean Brewster. He will be loved and missed by all. William “Trig” McComas, 67 of Ruther Glen, died Sunday August 12, 2007 at his home. Born in West Virginia, he was the manager of the Tea Rose Plantation and Temple Mill in Ruther Glen and had retired as a motor grader operator with Blakemore Construction. Survivors include his wife, Linda H. McComas; three children, Kelsney McComas and his wife Sharon of Chesterfield, Connie Holte and her husband David of Crew and Rodney McComas and his wife Amanda of Crew; a step daughter, Tammy Cassell and her husband D.J. of Spotsylvania; two brother, Ossie Ishel McComas and Man McComas; four sisters, Ruth Clay, Dwanda Sanders, Rebecca Davis and Anna Lee McComas; six grandchildren, Nikki Clements and her husband Jeff, Brittany, Alyssa and Ally McComas and Makayla and Devin Cassell and one great grandson, Luke Clements. Wilson M. Blatt, 83 of Milford, died Friday August 10, 2007 in Mary Washington Hospital. For over 30 years, Mr. Blatt owned and operated Blatt’s Store, a business begun by his grandfather in Milford. He was a charter member of the Caroline Jaycees, longtime member of the Caroline Ruritan Club, former Scout Master of Troop 173 and life member of the Bowling Green Rescue Squad. He was former chairman of the board of directors of Caroline Savings Bank and longtime member of Milford Presbyterian Church, serving as Deacon, Elder, Treasurer and Sunday school teacher. He was also the original and longtime announcer of high school football in Caroline County; first with the Caroline Cardinals, then the Bowling Green Senior High Mustangs and finally the Caroline Cavaliers. An avid Washington Redskin fan, he was a season ticket holder for 50 years. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Katherine Finley Blatt; a daughter, Karen Binter and her husband Randy of Moorestown NJ; three grandchildren, Ashley Trainer and her husband Jim of Hawaii, Rebecca Binter of New Jersey and Jennifer Binter of Florida; two brothers in law, James W. Johnson of Mechanicsville and Gordon Finley of Wilkesboro NC; a sister in law, Mary E. Finley of North Wilkesboro; nieces and nephews, Allen Finley, Cameron Finley, Katie Smithey, Kendall Privette, Carol Finley-Foote, Mary Finley, Lynn Jordan, Tom Blatt III, Kim Grant and Melinda Morgan and adopted family, Mark, Cindy and Ryan Chounard. Born in Maryland, she was the widow of James Grafton McGinniss Sr. She had retired after 30 years of service with King George County and Caroline County Social Services. She was also active in the American Cancer Society and AARP in King George. Survivors include her son, James Grafton “Jim” McGinniss Jr., and his wife Barbara, of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Eleanor Tate of Dunedin FL and Eunice Jones of Randallstown MD; four grandchildren, James Grafton McGinniss III, Michael Alan McGinniss, Andrew Thomas McGinniss and Kathryn Anne McGinniss and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 11 at 12 Noon in Shiloh Baptist Church, King George, with Rev. Richard Headley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
