Mary G. Reese
A funeral for Mary Anne Gemmill Reese, 79, of Spotsylvania County will be held at 2 p.m. Fri., Feb.8, 2002 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The Rev. J. Larry Haun will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery at a later date.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Reese died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at her residence, from complications of leukemia and lung disease. She was considered a cancer survivor in 1970.
Born in Wilton, she grew up in Deltaville and received a degree in education from Madison Women's College. She worked as an elementary school teacher for over 20 years.
From the early 1980s to early 1990s, Mrs. Reese spent countless hours volunteering for Haven, an organization to help bereaved widows and widowers.
After she married
her husband, the late William Ralph Reese, a career Naval officer, the couple lived at various Naval bases including Guam and Iceland, settling in Falls Church after his retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Anne Reese of Woodbridge; a son, Dr. Andrew Reese of Fredericksburg; a sister, Betsy Valadez of Apple Valley, Calif.; a brother, Robert Gemmill of Hardyville; and two grandchildren.
Nellie M. Fritter
Nellie Irene Musselman Fritter, 91, of Stafford County died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in Stafford, Mrs. Fritter was a member of Regester Chapel United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Ira Marvin Fritter.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Irene McConchie of Stafford; a son, John I. Fritter of Stafford; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. James N. Wishmyer officiating. Burial will follow in Ramoth Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Singleton, James W.
Lt. Col. James “ Jim” W. Singleton, 62 of Sutherland, VA. passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. He was born on March 2, 1939 in Marion, N.C. to Dorothy Hutchins Brittian and the late James Singleton. He was retired from the U.S. Army having served as a Battalion Commander VII Corps Budget officer and Unit Commander (twice). Ret. Lt. Col. Singleton received his MBA degree in finance and accounting from James Madison University and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Tampa with a degree in business management and economics. After his Army retirement he was a loyal and dedicated employee of Virgina State University from 1987-1994 where he served as Acting Budget Director, Assistant Controller for Accounting and reporting and Controller. He also served briefly at John Tyler Community College as Chief Accountant in 1998. Mr. Singleton was preceded in death by his sister, Iris H. Singleton of Elmonte, CA,
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of ten years, Nikka L. Singleton. Four sons, Douglas Singleton( Justin) of Fresno, CA., David Singleton (Betsy) of Kentucky, Donald Singleton of Seattle Washington, and Steven Arthur of Sutherland. One sister Gena M. Singleton of Morganton, N.C. A brother, Leon D. Singleton of Salisbury, MD; two nieces, Michelle Singleton of Chicago; Tina Singleton of Morganton, N.C. a nephew Leon Singleton(Satina) of New York City. And a host of relatives and close friends( Della Randall, Leon Brown, and Ed Cooper) among other friends.
A funeral service will be Friday, December 14, 2001 at 11am in the Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights with Brother Walter Gay officiating. The Burial will be Private. The family will receive friends from 10 am till time of service on Friday morning at the funeral home.
Rooney, James L.
James L. “Smokey” Rooney, 51, of Petersburg, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital, Richmond. A Petersburg native he was preceded in death by his father John Aloysius Rooney and a sister, Lucille Wardwell. Mr. Rooney was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a former member of the Petersburg Jaycees, a graduate of the Petersburg High School class of 1969 and a graduate of ECPI Technical Institute. He was a crew supervisor for ICI Corporation.
He is survived by his wife, Felicia Lucas Rooney; a son, Jeremy S. Rooney of Richmond; his mother, Lucille A. Rooney of Petersburg; brothers, John A. Rooney, Jr of Colinial Heights, and Jackie L. Rooney of Petersburg as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday December 14, 2001 at 1:30 PM in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, with the Rev. Carlos Wardwell officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 PM at the Funeral Home.
Oliver, Margaret Marie
Mrs. Margaret Marie Oliver, 64, 2620 Hunters Lane, Blairs, Virginia, died Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born January 26, 1937 in Ringgold, she was rhe daughter of the late Charlie Oliver and Gracie Miller Oliver.
Survivors include: Four sisters: Sylvia Raimie, Jean Corbett and Shirley Johnson all of Chester, Pennsylvania, and Lola Priest of Delaware, Two Brothers; Anthony Oliver of Atlanta, Georgia, and Calvin Oliver of Chester, Pennsylvania. In addition there is a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 2620 Hunters Lane, Blairs, VA.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Oliver will be conducted Saturday, October 6, 2001 at 2pm at the Mount Carmal Baptist Church. Rev. James E. Stewart wil officiate. Interment will follow in the Fitz Family cemetery, Blairs, VA.

Wells, Walter E. "Gene"
Walter E. "Gene" Wells, 55, of Partlow died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, as the result of an automobile accident. He was a sheet metal mechanic for Colonial Mechanical and a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his mother, Frances L. Wells of Partlow; a niece, Maegan Wells of Warrenton; and a nephew, Sean Wells of Woodbridge. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry E. "Bo" Wells.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.
Gola A. Newton
Gola A. Newton, 79, of the White Oak area of Stafford died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Newton and was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James Newton; two daughters, Dean Newton Smith of Annapolis, Md., and Kathy Newton Pitts of White Oak; a brother, Luther L. Newton Sr. of White Oak; a sister, Jean Thompson of Fredericksburg; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jami Leigh Smith; two brothers, George and Joseph Newton; and a sister, Elizabeth Newton.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Robert W. Smith and the Rev. Ernest Babel officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Presley, Peggy Miller
Peggy Miller Presley, 63, of Spotsylvania died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital. Mrs. Presley taught in Prince William County Public Schools for 36 years. She was a member of Chancellor Baptist Church. Mrs. Presley was the widow of Curtis E. Presley.
A native of Hedgesville, W.Va., Mrs. Presley was the daughter of the late George W. and Mildred Kesecker Miller, and the foster daughter of the late John D. and Margaret Snyder of Hedgesville, W.Va.
Survivors include her sister, Betty Clopper of Chambersburg, Pa., and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A funeral will follow at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Eric Goforth officiating. Interment will be private.

Hattie Virginia Miller Arrington
Hattie Virginia Miller Arrington, 83, of Fredericksburg died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Carriage Hill Nursing Home in Fredericksburg.
A native of Prince William County, Mrs. Arrington is survived by her husband, Charles D. "Bill" Arrington; one son, James Carroll Woolfenden of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Wilson Miller of Alexandria; two sisters, Violet Payne of Manassas and Thelma Dent of Stafford; two grandsons, James Carroll Woolfenden Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., and William Joseph Woolfenden of Baltimore, Md.; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Woolfenden of Tucson, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Arrington was preceded in death by one grandson, Leonard Carroll Woolfenden.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Henry McCaslin officiating. Interment will follow at Stafford Memorial Park, with a reception to follow at Grace United Methodist Church in Hartwood. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the funeral home.
Tyler Morgan Hill
Tyler Morgan Hill, infant daughter of Tyrone and Pamela Hill, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital.
She is survived by her parents, Tyrone and Pamela Hill of Spotsylvania; maternal grandparents, Charles and Delcine Payne of Memphis, Tenn.; paternal grandparents, Robert and Nora Hill of Memphis, Tenn.; maternal grandfather, Richard Irish of New York; and paternal great-grandmother, Mattie White of Memphis, Tenn.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, in Oak Hill cemetery with the Rev. Lawrence A. Davies officiating.
Arrangements are by Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
Alda Marlin Noftsinger
Age 82, died Friday, July 3, 2009, at Cadbury in Lewes, DE.
Mrs. Noftsinger was born on a farm on the James River near Goochland, VA. She was a graduate of the University of Richmond. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, Sunday school teacher, member of the American Association of University Women and New Century Club of Newark, DE. Additionally, she was active with The ARC of Delaware and was an avid bridge player and gardener. She was formerly of Wilmington, DE and Richmond, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Benjamin Noftsinger and 2 sons, John Noftsinger and Robert Benjamin Noftsinger, Jr. She was also preceded in death by 4 sisters. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Leslie Noftsinger Coates and husband Raymond D. Coates. Jr. of Berlin. MD, and Nan Noftsinger Monday and husband Thomas G. Monday of Fairfax Station, VA. There are 4 grandchildren, Lindsey Coates Brown of McLean, VA, Lauren Coates of Berlin Tyler Monday and Zach Monday of Fairfax Station, VA. Also surviving is a sister, Dorothy M. Barger of Stuart, FL and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, at 11 am, at Evegreen Burial Park in Roanoke, VA.
