Snellings, Margaret S. "Lily"

Lily Snellings

Margaret Schooler "Lily" Snellings, 91, of Falmouth died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Born in Spotsylvania County, Mrs. Snellings had retired as an inspector from the G&H Manufacturing Co.

She was a member of Falmouth Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Women's Missionary Union and Sunday School.

She was the widow of Herman Follis Snellings.

Survivors include two daughters, Marlene Sale of Fredericksburg and Carol Shelton of Falmouth; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Falmouth cemetery, with the Rev. Jack A. Marcom Jr. officiating.

The family will receive friends at her daughter's residence, 707 Payton Drive in Grafton Village, at any time.

Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Jesse P. Graham

Jesse P. Graham, 83, of Fredericksburg died at his residence Wednesday, May 8, 2002.

Born in Ashe County, N.C., he had retired from the Army after 20 years. He served in World War II and participated in the invasion of Normandy. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3103.

Survivors include his wife, Ingeborg Graham; a daughter, Eva Graham of Reston; a son, Arthur Graham of Boca Raton, Fla.; a sister, Edna Rash of North Carolina; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Quantico National cemetery, with military honors.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Ave., Suite 210, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Gladys E. Capes

Gladys E. Capes, 84, of Fredericksburg died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at her residence.

Mrs. Capes, born in Ishpeming, Mich., was a former resident of Orange Village, Ohio.

She had retired as an assistant librarian from the Orange school system in Pepper Pike, Ohio.

Mrs. Capes was a member of Garfield Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and active in women's groups. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Retired Teachers' Association of Ohio.

She was a den mother for the Girl Scouts, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and Project Learn, and a lifelong member of Tri-T.

She was the widow of Jay F. Capes Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Bobbi Allen and Judy Scheibe, both of Fredericksburg; a son, Jay F. Capes III of Orange Village, Ohio; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Richard Carbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Mayfield Heights, Ohio.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, 2217 Princess Anne St., Suite 106-1F, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Perdue, William Edmond

William Edmond Perdue, 73, of Prince George, died Sunday May 26, 2002, at the home of his daughter Denise Lee of Colonial Heights. A native of Martinsville VA, he was the son of the late William T. and Hessie Joyce Perdue. He was a member of and served as a deacon at Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church in Petersburg. He was retired from the U.S. Navy with over 21 years of service, serving in the Korean conflict, and was also retired as a plant manager for Brenco Inc. Mr. Perdue was part owner of B & B Auto Sales in Petersburg. He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Estelle Perdue, a son Kenneth Duane Perdue, and a daughter Theresa Perdue Lawson. He is survived by his daughters and sons in-law, Denise Lee and husband Mark of Colonial Heights, Sheila Lackey and husband Larry of Concord, NC; Brenda Joyce Dobson and husband Jack of Smithfield, Eugenia Mcalany of SC; sons Joseph Wayne Perdue of Chester, Ray Perdue of Norfolk, Donald Perdue of Colonial Heights, Bobby Perdue and wife Danielle of Glen Allen, and William E. Perdue of SC, 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, brothers, James C. Perdue, Billy F. Perdue and Lindy R. Perdue all of Michigan, one sister Ella V. Wheeler of Georgia, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 PM on Wednesday May 29, 2002 in Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2568 Steadman Drive Petersburg with the Rev Richard Elliott officiating. Interment to follow in Bermuda Memorial Park Chesterfield. The Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 – 8:30 PM at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Crater Community Hospice 840 W. Roslyn Rd. Suite E Colonial Heights Virginia 23834-3547 in Mr. Perdue’s memory

Patierno, Claude

Claude Patierno Sr, 75, of Colonial Heights died Sunday May 25, 2002 at Westport Nursing Home in Richmond. He was the son of the late Daniel and Minerva Jacobs Patierno. Mr. Patierno served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was a retired electrician for Firestone. He is survived by sons Claude Patierno Jr. and his wife Tere of Surry, David Patierno of Chesterfield, grandchildren, Tony Patierno, Tammy Copland, and great grandchildren Greg Patierno and Miranda Copland, a brother Paul Patierno of Poquoson,VA. and two sisters,Ora Green and Miranda Goble of Michigan. A memorial service will be held on June 1, 2002 at 2:00P.M,. at the residence of Mr. Patiernos Son, Claude Patierno Jr. For information you may call 804-520-1056. Katrina A. Lester

Katrina A. Lester, 9, of Fredericksburg died unexpectedly Friday, May 24, 2002, at her home.

Born in Gaithersburg, Md., she participated in gymnastics at Paragon Gymnastics Center and was a member of Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church.

Survivors include her parents, Roy and Dorine Lester of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Brittany Lester and Tiffany Lester of the home; one brother, Matthew Lester of the home; maternal grandparents, Donald and Dorothy Law of Berkeley, Mo.; paternal grandmother, Sylvia Fryer of McMinnville, Ore.; paternal grandfather, Roy Lester Sr. of Gaithersburg, Md.; and several aunts and uncles.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Lakewood cemetery, Bowling Green. The Rev. Paul Williams will officiate.

Terry, Bessie Harrison

Bessie Harrison Terry, born February 15, 1985, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2002, after and extended battle with cancer. She was a member of west End Baptist Church and a student at Dinwiddie County High School.

She will be remembered for her strength, courage, grace, determination, laughter, outgoing and fearless personality, and for her devoted support of her family and friends.

She is survived by her father, William Sanford “Sandy” Terry Jr., mother and step-father, Vernona M, and John D. Smith, brother, W.S. “Mitch” Terry, grandparents, Hope and Bennett Mitchell, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her

Betty M. Morgan

Betty Mignonette Morgan, 91, of King George County died Friday, March 8, 2002, at Hughes Home in Fredericksburg.

A King George native, Mrs. Morgan was a member of Potomac Baptist Church there. She was the widow of James H. Morgan.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Frances Taylor of King George; three sisters, Fannie Heimer and Virginia Purks, both of King George, and Juanita Sutton of Spotsylvania County; two brothers, Curtis Marshall and Ivias Marshall, both of King George; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Mon., March 11, 2002 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Dennis L. Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Potomac Baptist Church General Fund, Box 701, King George, Va. 22485.

Margaret Gaynell Whittaker

Margaret Gaynell Whittaker, 71, of Fredericksburg died at her residence Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002.

Born at Hazel, she worked in electronics for Melpar Aerospace in Falls Church. She was a member of Fredericksburg Church of God and was the widow of Lawrence Whittaker Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie Durrett of Stafford County; a son, Shawn C. Whittaker of Spotsylvania County; three sisters, Leona Davidson of West Virginia, Virginia Gabbard of Florida and Nancy Combs of Colorado; two brothers, Delmar LaForce of North Carolina and Willard LaForce of Beaverdam; and six grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thur., Feb. 7, 2002 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. David Scott officiating. Burial will be held in Temple Hill cemetery in Castlewood at 2 p.m. Fri., Feb. 8, 2002.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
