Dennis Ryan Crump, 59, of Colonial Heights, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. Mr. Crump was the proprietor of Hardwood Floors by D. R. Crump and a member of Bellwood Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents James Ryan and Helen Irene Jefferies Crump.
He is survived by his wife Mikki Crump; children, Danny Crump and wife Cindy, Richard Crump and wife Rebecca, Juanita (Nita-Rea) Mueller and husband Kenny, James Crump and wife Linda, Sheila Crump, Jonathan Dickens and Cary Dickens; ten loving grandchildren; a sister, Dottie Beach; loving family friends and business associates.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights with the Rev. Frank Caudle officiating. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Jessup-Archer, Helen Louise
Helen Louise Jessup Archer, 88, of Colonial Heights, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001. A native of Petersburg, she was daughter of the late Eugene Henry Jessup and Sarah Ophelia Carson Jessup and the widow of Percy B. Archer, Sr. She was a retired operator with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. and was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria M. Paesani of Follansbee, WV; four sons, William B. Perkinson, Jr. of Chula Vista, CA, Charles E. Perkinson of Rolla, MO, Joseph D. Perkinson of Colonial Heights and Percy B. Archer, Jr. of Dallas, TX; a brother Haywood Jessup of Dinwiddie; two sisters, Bernice Gibbs of Poquoson, VA and Mary Koeppen of Lakewood, NJ; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Monday, July 16, 2001 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. The Rev. Steve Felker will officiate. Burial will be in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Novinski, Robert Anthony
Robert Anthony Novinski, 63, a native of Kansas and resident of Colonial Heights died Tuesday April 24, 2001 at Healthsouth Medical Center in Richmond. He was the son of the late Herbert and Bernadette Perrine Novinski, and was also predeceased by a son Shawn and a sister Rita. Mr. Novinski was self employed and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife Janice Steinmetz Novinski, children Robin Kothenbeutel of Bettendorf IA, Robert Novinski of Durant IA, Rebecca Lenger of Rolla MO, and Arron Thompson of Chester VA. Grandchildren; Nathan, Autumn Joy, Elizabeth, Robert, Levi, Lucas, and Shawn, One sister Dorothy Leffingwell of Cheraw CO. The family will receive friends tonight from 7:30 to 8:30 PM at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights VA. Interment will take place at a later date in Iowa. Crowder, Sr., Horace Allen
Horace Allen Crowder, Sr., age 68 of Prince George died Thursday, March 29, 2001. He was preceded in death by a son Horace Allen Crowder, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Mary M. Crowder; two sons, David Crowder of Petersburg and Ray Crowder and wife Jennifer of Morganton, NC; daughter-in-law, Kathy Crowder of Petersburg; cherished family member Cindy Williams of Chesterfield; six grandchildren, Daniel, Jesse, Tonya, Shawn, John and Jordan Crowder and two sisters, Delphine Wilkerson of Colonial Heights and Winnie Watson of Mechanicsville.
Mr. Crowder was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Funeral services will be today, March 31, 2001, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights with Dr. Jeffery Ginn, Pastor officiating. Interment will be at 4:00 pm in Farnham Baptist Church cemetery, Farnham, VA.
Roach, Mary L.
Mary L. Roach, 82, of Dinwiddie, died Monday, June 18, 2001 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. She was born in Grayson County, Kentucky the daughter of the late Clarence and Emma Lewis Crawford and the widow of Richard H. Roach. Mrs. Roach was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Dinwiddie.
She is survived by two daughters, Emily R. Noblin of Orlando, FL and Frances Nichols of Dinwiddie; three grandchildren, Vanessa Downey, Karol Cairns and Theresa Andrews; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Van Haverbeke of Louisville, KY and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church, 7204 Boydton Plank Road, Dinwiddie, with the Rev. Russell Fail officiating assisted by Rev. Patrick Porter. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Dinwiddie Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Pine Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.
Laurie, Andrew
Andrew “Andy” Laurie, 80, of Petersburg, died Monday, June 18, 2001 after several months of declining health. He was a retired manager of Southern States Co. and upon retirement after 39 years he was employed at Hechinger’s for a period of time and Agri-Supply of Petersburg. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War, II and attended North Carolina State College. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Ely Powell and Edward Taylor Powell. Born in Winsteadville, NC he was the son of the late Alice Virginia Hollowell Laurie and Andrew Laurie, Sr. Mr. Laurie was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Winsteadville, NC making West End Baptist Church, Petersburg, his home.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret G. Ramsey Laurie and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, with Dr. Donald Campbell officiating assisted by Pastor John Crocker and Rev. Leroy Adams. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 10 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Maitland, Edith R.
After a declining period of health on Friday, June 15th, Edith R. Maitland entered into eternal rest and peace. She was 77 and resided in Colonial Heights. She was preceded in death by her husband, James (Bevo) Maitland, her parents, Mary and Leland Bishop, a sister, Maggie Roberts and a brother Mack Bishop.
She is survived by three brothers, L.A. Bishop of Rawlings, Bernard Bishop of Petersburg and Lloyd Bishop of Colonial Heights; one sister, Ellen Ozmore of McKenney; and left to her cherished memory three daughters, Brenda Vest of Petersburg, Alice Bordeaux of West Virginia and Diane Johnson of Hopewell; six grandchildren, Jerry and Michelle Vest of Chester, Donald Bordeaux of Colonial Heights, Christopher Napier of West Virginia, Missie Williams of Hopewell, Amanda and Jeri Diane Johnson also of Hopewell; three greatgrandchildren, Amanda McKinney of Chester, Brittany Salyers of Sutherland and Zachary Vest of Chester.
A funeral service will be held Monday 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. The Rev. R. Roland Powell will officiate. Ferrara, Leonard Sisto
Lt. Col. Leonard S. Ferrara,(Retired U. S. Army) 69, of Chester, died Monday, June 25, 2001. A native of Barrington, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Vincent James and Anna Ferruccio Ferrara. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemarie Ferrara. Mr. Ferrara was an active member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Colonial Heights, having served on the finance council. Mr. Ferrara was a member of the Knights of Columbus having served as both a Past Grand Knight and District Deputy. He retired from the U. S. Army having attained the rank of Lt. Colonel, he served in both Vietnam and Korea, he received the Silver and Bronze Stars, he also retired from a career with the state of Virginia. Mr. Ferrara participated as a volunteer for the Hospitality House at MCV Hospital, the Carpenter Center and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Program. During many elections Mr. Ferrara served as a pole official for State and National elections, he served on the board of directors for the Quarter Master Museum at Fort Lee and volunteered his talents as a tax consultant with the Crater District Agency on Aging. He also took part in the Colonial Heights Senior Citizens Golfing Group.
He is survived by two sons, James L. Ferrara of Amelia Co and Leonard J. Ferrara of Winfield, IL; two daughters, Lynn M. Tetreault of Chesterfield and Jane C. Ferrara-Foulis of Richmond and eight grandchildren.
A Mass of the Eucharist will be celebrated Thursday, June 28, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights with Father James Cowles officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 6:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment with full military honors will be Friday morning in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George at 10:30 a.m.. The procession will leave the church at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the National Cancer Institute. Arrangements are being handled by E. Ramsey, Isaiah Rudolph
Isaiah Rudolph Ramsey, 81, of Prince George, died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at his residence surrounded by the love of his family. A native of Suffolk, he was the son of the late Isaiah and Carrie Grant Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey was a retired Teletype specialist for C& P Telephone Company and served his country with the Army Air Corp 8th Division as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was a life time charter member of the McKenney Hunt Club and a Boy Scout Master with the McKenney Boy Scouts. He was preceded in death by a daughter Mary Margaret Ramsey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Eugenia Tucker Ramsey, sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas Scott and Cindy Ramsey of Sutherland; Donald Grant and Carol Ramsey of Gloucester; William Thomas Ramsey, Sr. of Richmond and Rudolph Wayne and Donna Ramsey of Silver Springs, MD; a daughter and son-in-law, Eugenia Ramsey Elder and Richard T. Jr. of Prince George; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, Rusty a devoted companion; a brother, Floyd Mitchell of Connecticut; a brother-in-law, Jessie W. Buckner of Norfolk and a special devoted caregiver Agnes.

Queensberry, Joseph Leo
Joseph Leo Queensberry, 47, of Colonial Heights died on Thursday April 19, 2001.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, and is survived by two daughters, Brandy Queensberry and Crystal Queensberry of Colonial Heights, grandchildren Taylor Scott and Christian Queensberry.
Also survive him is his father and mother Bob and Jean Queensberry of Petersburg, sisters Roberta Grant of Prince George and Karlene Lynch of Dinwiddie, half brother Larry Rolando of Richmond.
A memorial service will take place at 7:00 PM on Tuesday April 24, 2001 at the Pine Grove Baptist Church 7204 Boydton Plank Rd. in Petersburg VA with the Rev. Russell Fail officiating.

Kleikamp, Frank T.
Frank T. Kleikamp, 90 of Chester,VA. died on Sunday, April 22, 2001 in Eden Pines, Petersburg. He was born in Michigan and was the son of the late, Theodore and Rose Blazek Kleikamp. Mr. Kleikamp attended St. Ann Catholic Church, Colonial Heights.
Mr. Kleikamp is survived by his wife, Marjorie A. Cousineau Kleikamp of Colonial Heights. A daughter and son in-law, Beverly J. and Leonard J. Aberle of Chester. One grandson, Christopher Aberle of Chester, a grand-daughter Lisa Garey of Richmond and a great grandson, Alexander Garey of Richmond. Two sisters, Rose Marlton of Chahalis Washington, Verna Hanchek of Homestead, Florida and one brother Joseph Kleikamp of Seattle Washington.
A Eucharist of the Resurrection will be Wednesday, April 24, 2001 at 11am at St. Ann Catholic Church 17111 Jefferson Davis Highway, with the Monsignor Robert Perkins officiating. Hilton, Thomas Gary
LTC Thomas Gary Hilton (USA Ret), 65, of Colonial Heights died in the Lord Wednesday, 18 July 2001 at Chippenham Medical Center, Richmond. A native of Mississippi he was the son of the late Monroe J. and Mary Alice Rushing Hilton. He served his country proudly during the Vietnam War and his achievements earned him the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Bronze Star Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Parachute Badge, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit citation, the Overseas Services Ribbon, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. LTC Hilton was a member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War, AARP, Retired Officers Association and the Mississippi State University Alumni Association.
He is survived by his college sweetheart, wife of 43 years, Ella E. Schneider Hilton, two daughters, Sharon Erika Hilton and Angela Katherine Hilton and a loving companion Sweetie.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, 211 Lynchburg Avenue. The viewing will be from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening prior to the service and a reception will follow the service. Interment will be in Arlington National cemetery on Tuesday, 31 July 2001 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Hildegard K. Somers, 72, of Petersburg died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. A native of Germany, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Maria Prantl Sterl. Mrs. Somers was predeceased by her husband Cletis A. Somers and a son, Wilhelm R. Somers. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Max and Anita Sterl of Regensburg, Germany.

Klootwyk, John William
John William Klootwyk, 78 of Colonial Heights died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. He was the son of the late John Alvin and Dollie Bell Blythe Klootwyk. He was preceded in death by a brother, C.O. “Buck” Klootwyk and a sister Laura Jean Kelting. Mr. Klootwyk was a U.S. Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal. Mr. Klootwyk was a machine operator for E. I. Dupont.
He is survived by his wife Mary Davis Klootwyk, a son and daughter-in -law, John “Butch”, Jr. and Jean Klootwyk of Chesterfield, a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and William Ketcham of Chesterfield, four grandchildren Melissa Zevgolis, Tracy Wimbrough, John (Bubba) Klootwyk III and Reggie Ketcham, four great grandchildren, Caleb Cox, Angelique Zevgolis, T.C. Carroll and Morgan Wimbrough. A chapel service will be held Friday July 20, 2001 at 11 A.M .at E.
