Watkins, Eunice Pauline
Eunice Pauline Watkins, 78 of Hopewell, and formally of Colonial Heights , died Monday July 9, 2001 at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond. She was a native of Colonial Heights the daughter of the late Robert Carl and Fannie Green Bosher and was the widow of John C. Watkins Sr. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Colonial Heights.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Watkins Stovall of Dalton, Georgia, two sons, John C.Watkins Jr., of Chesterfield, Mark W. Watkins , of Colonial Heights, three sisters, Gloria Carline Davis of Colonial Heights, Lillian B. Grubbs of Prince George, Nora B. Cox of Matoaca, a Brother, Carlton R. Bosher, of Colonial Heights, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 11,2001 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of the E.Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights with the Rev John P.Mason ,Rev Ivan Perkinson , Rev Neil Wheeler and Herbert S. Small officiating.
Burial will be in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George county. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening 7-8:30 P.M.
Doris S. Fox
Doris S. Fox 72, of Colonial Heights, died Sunday July 8, 2001 , at Southside Regional Medical Center Petersburg. She was a native of Richmond , daughter of the late Peter A. and Margaret Stahl Seay. She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she had taught in the nursery for over twenty years, and she also volunteered as a library aid at North Elementary school. She is survived by her husband of Fifty-two years, Leonard W. “Buddy” Fox Jr. Three sons and daughters in-law, Gary W. Fox Jr., and wife Sharon of Chester, Larry J. Fox and wife Tamera of Concord NC, Douglas A. Fox and wife Kathleen, of Chesterfield, a brother Alfred R. Seay of Richmond, an aunt, Ellen Stahl of Richmond, and her grandchildren which she dearly loved, Jonathan W. Fox, Allison K. Fox, Savanna L. Fox, Kendel A. Fox, Nicole D. Fox, Christian J. Fox, Reilly M. Fox.also preceded in death by a grandchild Kaitlyn C. Fox. Others survivors include sister in-laws, Virginia Matthews, of Richmond, Mildred Burrows of Durham NC and Margaret Gibson and husband Charles of Mechanicsville. Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced by E. Alvin Small Funeral Home Colonial Heights.
Alban, Vincent Joseph
Vincent Joseph Alban, 73, of Whiting, New Jersey died Friday, July 6, 2001 at John Randolph Nursing Home, Hopewell. He had been convalescing in Colonial Heights since November of 2000 with his son. Born in Connecticut, he was a son of the late Emil and Alice O’Connell Alban. Mr. Alban was preceded in death by his wife Veronica Alban and a brother Thomas Alban.
He was a retired schoolteacher for the Brentwood School System and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Roman Catholic Church. He was a 4th degree lifetime member of the Knight’s of Columbus. While in Colonial Heights he attended St Ann Catholic Church.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Jacqueline (Jaci) M. Alban of Colonial Heights; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Ann and David Trotta of Oveda, FL; five grandchildren, John James (J.J.) Alban, James Robert (Rocky) Alban, Joseph Thomas Alban, Grace Ann Trotta and Noah Trotta; a brother, Dr. Jack Alban and his wife Barbara of Dearborn, Michigan a sister, Alyce Camillone and husband Peter of New City, NY and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening July 8, 2001 at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2003 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Ann Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Whiting Memorial Park, Whiting, New Jersey. Kilbourne, Eleanor Ann
Eleanor Ann Kilbourne, 63, of Petersburg, VA, died Sunday, July 8, 2001 in Southside Regional Medical Center. She was born in New York City, daughter of the late James J. and Eleanor Rattigan Talbot. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, the Columbiettes, the Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was employed as a supervisor with Target in Colonial Heights. She was the beloved wife of Michael after 43 years of marriage, loving mother of Teresa Ann Osborne of Partridge, KY, Daniel Kilbourne of Richmond, Michele Murak of Petersburg (currently accompanying her husband on assignment with the U.S. Army in Landstuhl, Germany) and Michael Robert Kilbourne of Islip Terrace, NY. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, a brother, James Talbot of Central Islip, NY and a sister, Ann Talbot of Fairfax, VA. The family will receive friends at E. Harrison, Benjamin Franklin
Benjamin “Pokey” Franklin Harrison 66 of Sutherland, VA., died on Sunday, June 24, 2001 at his residence. He was born in Hopewell Mr. Harrison was a US Army Veteran and was a retired mechanic for Max Automotive. He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd C. Harrison, a granddaughter Kristy Bridgman and a brother David Harrison.
He is survived by his wife Bessie Burma E. Harrison, two daughters, Debra H. and her husband Edward Bridgman, Melody H. and husband Michael Martin. A son Timothy D. and wife Shelby. Five grandchildren Shayne and Chad Bridgman, Faith Martin, Kristin and Kristopher Harrison. Two great grandchildren, Corey and Kate Bridgman. His mother Anna S. Harrison. Three sisters Irene Simmons, Rosalee Mayton and Mildred Walker. Two brother James Harrison and Ronald Harrison. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at 11am in the Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights with the Rev. Samuel Robinson and Rev. Rich Shultz officiating. Burial to follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George County. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00-8:30 P.M. at the funeral Home.
Bunting, Lida M.
Lida M. Bunting, 78 of Colonial Heights, Va. died on Sunday, March 18, 2001 at Southside Regional Medical Center. She was born in Milton, W.VA. and was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Ida Chapman. Mrs. Bunting was a member of Fellowship Baptist church in Ettrick.
She is survived by her husband David W. Bunting. Two daughters Margaret R. and Husband John A. Turner of Forest, VA., Carol L. Doyle of Chester, N.J. Three Grandchildren, one special granddaughter Denise and Husband Christopher Leach of Wakeforest N.C.,and one great grandson Austin Leach. Also survived by one sister Gladys of Milton, W. VA.
A graveside service will be Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at 11:00 AM in Bermuda Memorial Park, Enon with the Rev. John F. Carty officiating. The funeral procession will be leaving the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights at 10:30 AM. The family will receiving friends Tuesday evening from 7:00-8:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Lynch, Mary Elizabeth
Mary Elizabeth Taylor Lynch, 83, of Richmond, died Saturday, July 7, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Richmond. She was a daughter of the late Joseph B. Taylor and Bessie Eicher Taylor and the widow of Elbert C. Lynch.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Brewington; a son, Robert Lynch; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Taylor and a sister, Helen Snowden.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 12, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Harris, David Mandry
David Mandry (Bucky) Harris, 90, died Saturday, April 21, 2001 in the Dunlop House in Colonial Heights. He was a native of Martins Ferry, Ohio, the son of the late William H. and Edith Jones Harris and widower of Lucille M. Harris. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army. He served in General Eisenhower’s headquarters in England and France. He also served in Germany and in Vietnam retiring in 1962. He also was a Civil Service employee at Fort Lee for over 20 years retiring in 1984. He was a member of Colonial Heights American Legion Post No. 284 for over 25 years where he was a Past Commander, Life Member, Mr. Legionaire and Finance Officer for over 20 years. He served as Head Usher at chapels at Fort Lee for 40 years.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, David G. and Beth Harris of Englewood, CO, Mary Belle Harris of Sutherland, Douglas C. and Karen Harris of Colonial Heights, and Nancy E. and Neal Noyes of Richmond; and 14 grandchildren.
The family acknowledges special appreciation to the devoted staff of Dunlop House, especially Linda Miles. Also to Crater Hospice, especially Emily, Agnes and Alane.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. in Memorial Chapel, Fort Lee. Officiating will be Chaplain LTC Gary Pendrak and Msg. David Reasbeck. Gayle Karen Drown, 54, of Prince George, died Friday, July 6, 2001 at her residence. A native of Newport, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Robert Blake and Helen Elizabeth Manning Sullivan.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald V. Drown; two daughters, Amber Helen Drown of Prince George and Leigh Ann D. Ragsdale of Dinwiddie; a son, Christopher R. Drown of Prince George; one brother and one sister.
Services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights.
Finch, Margaret S.
Margaret S. Finch, 85, of Colonial Heights, died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Annie Elizabeth Walters Strader and was the widow of Harmon Finch. Mrs. Finch was associated with Calvary Baptist Church in Colonial Heights.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Taylor of Petersburg and Grace Swearingen of Colonial Heights; three sons, Harmon Finch, Jr. of Chester; William Thomas Finch of Amelia and John Cecil Finch of FL; three half-sisters, Ruby Mitchell, Alane Stroud and Mildred Cobb all of Danville; a half brother, Bobbie Strader of Richmond; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 23, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester with the Rev. Marshall Bonds officiating. Her remains rest at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. Wolfe, John Victor
Mr. John Victor Wolfe, 40, of Dulles, VA died on Thursday, June 28, at his residence.
Born on January 21, 1961, in Frederick he was the son of Victor L. and Susan I. Callahan Wolfe of Earlysville, VA. Mr. Wolfe grew up in Charlottesville, VA and had lived in Northern Virginia since 1990. He was a 1993 graduate of Virginia Military Institute where he earned a degree in civil engineering. Mr. Wolfe had been employed by Clark Construction for only about a month and prior to that was the Assistant City Engineer for Falls Church, a position he held for 4 years. He enjoyed listening to all types of music.
Surviving in addition to his parents are three sisters; Mary Lea Wolicki of Greensboro, NC, Carol Sipher and husband Bill of Clovis, NM and Jean Whelan and husband Pete of Lakenheath,United Kingdom; and a brother, Thomas Wolfe of Gordonsville, VA Mr. Wolfe was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Chester and Nellie Eichelberger Wolfe and his maternal grandparents, Louis H. and Irene A. Warthen Callahan.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Monday, July 2, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 3, at St. Anthony's Shrine Parish, 16150 St. Anthony's Road, Emmitsburg.
Simpson, Evelyn Compton
Evelyn Compton Simpson, 92, a native of Front Royal VA., and resident of Colonial Heights died Wednesday June 27, 2001 at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg. She was the daughter of the late Edward Henry and Susan Meneefee Compton and the widow of Wallace Monroe Simpson who was killed in the line of duty while serving as an inspector for the Virginia State Police in October 1951. Mrs. Simpson retired as Clerk of the Court for the City of Colonial Heights serving from 1952 to 1977. She was a long time resident of Winston Ave in Colonial Heights. She is survived by seven nieces and nephews, Mrs. Donna J. Davis of Raymore Mo., Miss Patricia Compton of Harrisburg, PA, Mrs. Mary Sue Younger of Knoxville, TN., and Mrs. Gloria Reed Hendry of Raleigh, NC., Richard W. Compton of San Antonio TX, John Douglas Compton of Ottawa, KS., and Dwight C. Reed of Lexington, VA.. Also ten great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday June 30, 2001 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights with the Rev. Harry B. Jones officiating. Gloria Lynn Metosh, 33, of Colonial Heights died on Tuesday, April 17,2001. She was born in Chattanooga, TN.
She is survived by her mother Gloria Broyles of Ettrick, her husband, Barry N. Metosh and two daughters, Kristen Leigh Metosh and Jamie Lynn Metosh; all of Colonial Heights also two beloved friends, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Sharpe of Colonial Heights.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, at 3:00P.M. April 21,2001in the Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. with the Rev. Jerry Parker officiating.
