ELIZABETH HUNTER

Portsmouth - Elizabeth Hunter, 79 of the 800 block of Madison Street peacefully slipped away from us on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Luther and Elnora Hart. She was born July 13, 1928 in Northampton County. She joined St. James Church of God In Christ where she was an active member. Anything she thought her pastor or anyone wanted, she tried to provide for them. She was one of the oldest mothers of the her church.

Elizabeth leaves to mourn, but cherish memories: one sister, Margaret Darden (Tommy aka Bro) of Portsmouth, VA, two sister-in-laws, Vernell Hart (predeceased brother, James Hart) of Broadnax, VA & Gladys Hart (predeceased brother, Alexander Hart) of Portsmouth, VA, one brother-in-law, James Wright (predeceased sister, Gloria Wright) of Portsmouth, VA. Predeceasing her: two sisters, Mildred Fleetwood (Peter) and Mary Jordan (George) and one brother, Jimmy Hart (Reatha). Not to be forgotten are 21 nieces and nephews, 39 great nieces and nephews, 20 great-great-great nieces and nephews and a large gathering of cousins and friends. A special acknowledgement to God parents, Mr. Eugene and Mrs. Georgia Askew. The family has entrusted J. T. Fisher Funeral Services with the final care arrangements.

TYRUS TRIS SKELTON

Chesapeake — Tyrus Tris Skelton,85, of the 1900 block of Battery Park Road, departed this life on Thursday, December 6, 2007. Mr. Skelton was born May 28, 1922 in Fort Smith Arkansas. He was a World War II veteran.

Mr. Skelton leaves to cherish his memories daughters; Linda D. Skelton, Denise Perdue, Deborah L. Cannon (Leon J. Cannon), and Patricia E. Russell. Also left to cherish his memories are a sister; Hazel Boutwell, grandson; James C. Nance (Maria), great grand daughter; Saadia, and god son; Corey Edward Cook. He will also be missed by a caring wife, Laurel Sanchez and a host of loving friends.

Viewing will be held on Monday, December 10, 2007 from noon until 8 pm at J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake. A life celebration service will be held 12 noon Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family has entrusted J. T. Fisher Funeral Services to handle the final care arrangements.

Portsmouth — Anthony M. Wilson, 45, of the 600 block of Dunedin Road, departed this life on Tuesday, December 4, 2007. A life celebration service will be held 11 am Monday, December 10, 2007 at Fourth Baptist Church, 726 South Street, Portsmouth. The family has entrusted J. T. Fisher Funeral Services to handle the final care arrangements.

Chesapeake — Morris Alexander Rhone, 77, of the 700 block of Malbon Drive, departed this life on Wednesday, December 5, 2007. A life celebration service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, December 8, 2007 at J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N George Washington Hwy, Chesapeake, VA.

ROBERT LEE HINTON

Chesapeake — Robert Lee Hinton, 50, also known as Bobby, of the 3000 block of Clover Road, departed this life on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 to be with the Lord. He was born on March 5, 1957 in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Mr. Hinton leaves to cherish his memories a wife, Sharon A. Hinton and son; Deandre’ Yellandy. Also left to cherish his memories are three sisters; Linda House, Rebecca Hinton- Billups, and Geraldine Hinton and nine brothers; Larnell Hinton, Cornell Hinton, Jeremiah Hinton, Jr., Johnnie Hinton, Michael Hinton, David Hinton, Jack Hinton, Bruce Hinton and Ronald Hinton.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at J. T. Fisher Funeral Services located at 1080 N George Washington Hwy, Chesapeake from noon until 5 pm. A life celebration service will be held 11 am Friday, December 7, 2007 at Twine Memorial Holy Temple Located at 1419 County Street, Portsmouth, with Reverend Donald Trusty officiating. MARY DEVINE

Portsmouth — Mary Devine, 82, of the 300 block of Truxton Avenue, departed this life on Saturday, November 24, 2007.A life celebration service will be held 12 noon on Friday, November 30, 2007 at Zion Bethel UCC located at 1617 Des Moines Avenue, Portsmouth. The family has entrusted J. T. Fisher Funeral Services to handle the final care arrangements.

FRANK L. HALL SR.

Frank L. Hall, Sr. of Portsmouth, VA passed away on Monday, November 19, 2007. Born in Philadelphia, PA to Madie Lee Hall and Frank l. Thomas. His travels would take him to Rochester, NY then back to Philly. In 1979, the family moved to Whitesboro, NJ where he attended Middle Township High School and the Cape May County Vocational Education Center (VOTECH) for cooking and baking. He was one of the first to attend the student work program at VOTECH to learn and earn. Being an all down back for the Middle Township Panthers Football Team he earned the nickname Franco (like Franco Harris) from his players. His tough play on defense gained him respect and attention playing varsity in only his second year in high school. Employed at the Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital in the dietary department, he was known as a wonderful person. He married his VOTECH sweetheart, Lisa Robinson Flamer Hall the summer of 1989.

Frank likes sports, especially the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bulls. He also loved his PlayStation. Frank had a deep love for his mom, Madie Lee Hall. She called him “her love child”.

Frank is survived by his wife, Lisa Hall; brothers Lyvell Hall, Sr. (Lany), Lydell Hall, Victor Hall (Jacky); step-brothers Michael Wing, Keith Wing and Jerry Connors; sisters, Tammy Hall, Lucinda Brown (Charles) of Mastic, NY, Cinthia Wilson of Jessup, GA, Linda Okonkwo of Atlanta, Georgia, Tawana Moopow and Estella Brown (mother of four sisters); step-sister, Kim Bennett; his children, Falicia Ann Hall, Frank l. Hall Jr. (Bubby), Gloria Hall, Eric Hall and Michael Hall. Frank leaves a soon to be grandchild who will call him Big Daddy, 25 nieces and nephews, as well as some great nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts and many friends. A special friend, one of the greatest women God has called to ministry, Madie B. Jennings.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Carlton Hall Sr., father, Frank L. Thomas, mother Madie Lee Hall, aunt, Marian Hall and cousin, Cherry Washington.

A life celebration service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at J.T. Fisher Funeral Services located at 1080 N. George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake, VA. Burial will be at Carver Cemetery.

JAMES ROBERTS

Portsmouth – James Roberts, 43, of the 5100 block of Peake Lane, went home to be with the Lord, December 24, 2007. He attended New Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memories are his parents; Charlie and Julia Roberts, three sisters; Ella M. Roberts, Julia M Roberts, Annie M. Roberts, one brother; Charlie Roberts, Jr., six nieces, three nephews and a host of family and friends.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday January 2, 2008, from 12noon to 5pm, at J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, located at 1080 N George Washington Hwy, Chesapeake. A life celebration service will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at New Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, located at 1000 County Street, Portsmouth. The Rev. Milton R. Blount will officiate. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 from 2pm to 7pm, at 3312 Sir Meliot Court, Chesapeake. FLORINE YOUNG

Portsmouth – Florine Young, 83, of the 1500 block of Richmond Avenue, went home to be with the Lord, December 22, 2007, with her family members surrounding her. She was a member of New Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as an usher before her illness. Mrs. Young was retired from Holiday Inn, Portsmouth.

Mrs. Florine Young leaves to cherish her memory, four sons; Raymond Young, Jr. Freddie Young, Bobby Young (Jamesetta) of Portsmouth and Jerome Young (Dionne) of Detroit, MI., four daughters; Florine Brown (Joseph) of Portsmouth, Fannie Freeman (Gregory) of Suffolk, Minister Josephine Fields (Robert) of Chesapeake, Karen Robinson (Carl) of Orlando, FL., a special daughter and devoted care giver; Darlene Gray of Portsmouth, a sister; Roxanna Mitchell of Portsmouth,17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2007, from 12noon to 5pm. A life celebration service will be held 12noon on Friday, December 28, 2007 at New Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, located at 1000 County Street, Portsmouth. The Rev. Milton R. Blount will officiate. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk. MELVIN B. DAVIS

Chesapeake — Melvin Davis, 66, of the 2600 block of Mossgate Court, departed this life on Thursday, December 13, 2007. Mr. Davis was born in Norfolk, VA.

Mr. Davis graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1958. Shortly, thereafter, he left to join the United States Army and after 24 years of service, retired as a Sergeant First Class. Mr. Davis later continued his education at Norfolk State University. Mr. Davis became an insurance agent for South Western Insurance Company. Mr. Davis was a former member of First Baptist Church Lambert’s Point.

Left to cherish his memories are, his mother: Maude Hamilton Davis; his loving and devoted wife, Isabel R. Davis; one daughter: Nancy Kelly; two sons: Melvin B. Davis, Jr. (Michelle) and Anthony J. Davis; three grandchildren: Victor Brabble, Jr., Anthony W. Kelly, Jr. and Deiyauna M. Davis; three sisters: Delrese Parker (Curtis), Carolyn Guilford and Mabel Larrimore (Donald).

He also leaves to cherish his memory an abundance of family and friends.

Viewing will commence on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. A life celebration service will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 10:00am at New Bethel Baptist Church, located at 4212 Greenwood Drive in Portsmouth, VA. Rev Dr. Mark Whitaker will be officiating. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. The family has entrusted J. T. Portsmouth — Clinton O. Salmon, 19, of the 900 block of Tazwell Drive, departed this life on Wednesday, December 12, 2007. A life celebration service will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Fairwood Agape Baptist Church located at 3709 Elliott Avenue, Portsmouth, VA. Final care arrangements are being handled by J. T. Fisher Funeral Services in Chesapeake, Va.

JAMES E. RAWLES

Chesapeake – James E. Rawles, 79, of the 1000 block of Elysian Place, departed this life on Monday, December 10, 2007 at 1:50am. He attended Suffolk public schools and is a graduate of A&T University. Mr. Rawles is a retired civil serviceman of over 30 years of service, in addition to, a retiree of the United States Army Reserve.

Mr. Rawles is survived by, his wife of over 56 years; Myrtle O. Rawles, his daughter; Donna Rawles, four sisters; Marion Osborne, Lula Mae Copeland, Clarine Jones and Bernice Evans, one brother; Roland Rawles, as well as, a host of nieces and nephews.

An evening visitation service will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Little Zion Baptist Church located at 141 Kempsville Road in Chesapeake, from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. A life celebration service will be held 11am Friday, December 14, 2007 at New Galilee Baptist Church, located at 1013 Great Bridge Blvd in Chesapeake. The Rev. William Chatman will be officiating. Interment will follow immediately at the Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery located in Suffolk. The family has entrusted J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N George Washington Hwy, Chesapeake, to handle the final care arrangements.

SONIA Y. CARTER

Chesapeake — Sonia Y. Carter, 38, of the 200 block of Median Court departed this life to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 9, 2007. Miss Carter was born in Fayetteville, NC.

Miss Carter was a graduate of Deep Creek High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church Camelot, and faithfully served as a choir member. Miss Carter also worked at the Children Hospital of the Kings Daughters as a surgery scheduler coordinator.

Left to cherish her memories are; her parents, Claude and Jean Carter, her daughter; Kayla Carter, son; Andrew Brown, and brother; Waverly E. Carter (Tonya).

Viewing will be commencing on Thursday, December 13, 2007, at 11:00am. A life celebration service will be held on Friday, December 14, 2007 at 10:00am at First Baptist Church Camelot, located at 1008 Sir Lancelot Drive, Chesapeake. The Rev. Cecil Wicker will be officiating. Interment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Gardens in Chesapeake. The family has entrusted J. T. MIRACLE WALTER

Virginia Beach – Miracle "Rel" Walter, 21, of the 600 block of Arvida Lane, departed this life on Saturday, February 2, 2008. Miracle was born in Philadelphia, PA. In 2004, Mr. Walter graduated from Camp Pendleton military Academy. Mr. Walter worked as a lab technician at Cooper Vision.

Left to cherish his memories are: his parents; John Macon and Shari Robinson, a stepfather; Joseph Robinson, one daughter; Mikylah Walter, a paternal grandmother; Clarice Macon, maternal grandmother; Alice Walter and Mable Robinson, paternal grandmother. Also left to cherish his memories are: three god-brothers, three god-sisters and a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held on Friday, February 8, 2008, between the hours of 2:30pm and 7:30pm, at J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, located at 1080 N George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake. Suffolk - Lillie Taylor White, 102, of the 200 block of Constance Road, departed this life on January 27, 2008. Ms. White was born in Tyner, NC.

Left to cherish her memories are a daughter; Mary Christine Boone, seven grandchildren; Judie Boone, Delilah Porter, Vanessa Jacobs, Frances Shoulders, Michael Boone, James White, Jr., and Regina Taylor, 8 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her sons; Floyd "Buddy" Taylor and James White, Sr.

Ms. White also leaves several friends of Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation Center to cherish her memories; Felita Creekmore, Martha Boone, Brenda Norfleet, Debra Mills, Sharon L. Baker, LaTonya Roberson, Chiquita Gibbons and Ann Anderson.

PHYLLIS BALL

Portsmouth - Phyllis Louise Ball, 85, of the 4000 block of Greenwood Drive departed this life on Thursday, January 17, 2008. She was born on February 7, 1922.

Ms. Ball loved to cook and spend time with friends at bridge games, ASA, Sons of Italy and with the Senior Citizens of Fairfax County.

Ms. Ball leaves to cherish her memories her children, John E. (Pat), Edward J. (Barb), Andrew (Jim) J. (Carolyn), Michael J. (Francie), Stephen C., Suzanne M., Matthew T. (Marilyn) and Christopher M. (Mary).

Also left to cherish her memory are 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and her siblings, Carmine (Dorothy) & Anthony Cavallo, and Mary Cook.

Portsmouth - Fred. D. Taylor, 84, of the 3500 block of Tyre Neck Road, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 14, 2008. Mr. Taylor was a World War II Army veteran. He was a life long member of Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Taylor leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Vornie Taylor-Allen (Alfred) and a son, Byron D. Taylor (Sylvia), a son-in-law, James Edwards, Jr., five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Mamie L. Taylor and daughter, Deidre D. Edwards.

Norfolk – Robert W. Hawkins, Sr., 75, of the 1000 block of Colonial Avenue, departed this life on Monday, February 11, 2008. Robert was a loving husband, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather. He leaves to cherish his memory seven children; John, Irene, Robert, Jr., James, Forrest, Mark and Michael, 22 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 3 siblings.

Robert was a person who loved to work in his business and in his home town of Riverhead, New York.
