GLASCO
Henry Howard Glasco, 76, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 9, 2000. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy; and a granddaughter, Christy. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mildred J. Glasco; a son and his spouse, Rick and Ginny Glasco; daughter and her spouse, Janet and Keith Pervis; four grandchildren, Dustin, Judy, Jay and Will; his mother, Irene Y. Glasco; a sister, Louise King; and a brother, Alvin Glasco. Mr. Glasco was retired from American Tobacco after 39 years and was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends Saturday and Sunday anytime after 2 p.m. A service will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2000 at Highland Park United Methodist Church with interment to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

GWALTNEY
Mr. William D. Gwaltney, 73, of South Hill, died Thursday, June 8, 2000 in a Richmond hospital. Mr. Gwaltney is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anne L. Gwaltney; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty G. and Stephen P. DeOrnellas; one son and daughter-in-law, Leland T. and Julia J. Gwaltney; and four grandchildren, William Christopher and Kevin Purcil DeOrnellas and Jason Tyree and Daniel Lee Gwaltney, all of South Hill. He was preceded in death by a brother, L.T. Gwaltney. Mr. Gwaltney was a retired farmer and a former chairman of the Board of Deacons and a Sunday School director for Union Level Baptist Church. He was also a charter member of the Buckhorn Volunteer Fire Department. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, June 11, 2000 at 2 p.m. by Dr. Leonard H. Miller and Rev. Charles Clay at Farrar Funeral Chapel with the committal to follow in the Gwaltney Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial considerations may be directed to Union Level Baptist Church. Condolences may be emailed to farrar@msinets.com.

JOHNSON
Edwin C. (Red) Johnson, age 88, of Richmond, formerly of Erie, Penn., died Thursday, June 8, 2000. survived by his wife, Duddley (Dee Dee) Johnson; two daughters, Elaine J. Schau of King William, Va . and Nancy J. Leuschen of Richmond, Va.; one son, James J. Johnson of Boynton Beach, Fla.; also 15 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Remains rest at Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie, Penn.

LOVING
Ross Allen Loving, 58, of St. Stephens Church, Va., died Friday, June 9, 2000. He is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Robinson and Terry Loving; four grandchildren; his mother, Mary Loving; two sisters, Phylis Birkett and Mary Ann Harper. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment 12:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, Bowling Green, Va.

MOORE
Douglas Owen Moore, 69, died June 9, 2000. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church and an honorary member of Emporia Vol. Fire Dept. He is survived by his mother, Grace B. Moore of Emporia; his wife, Barbara M. Moore of Emporia; two sons, Douglas Owen Moore Jr. of Chester and Shawn T. Allen of Richmond; a sister, Nancy M. Cavins of Jacksonville, Fla.; a grandson, Matthew Dustin Moore. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Main Street Baptist Church by Dr. Al Thompson. The family suggests memorials be given to the American Diabetes Association. Echols Funeral Home, Emporia.

MOSS
Joseph Alexander Moss, 87, of Kilmarnock, died June 9, 2000. Mr. Moss graduated from Southwestern in Memphis, Tenn. (now Rhodes) in 1934 and earned his LLB from George Washington University in 1940. H e began his career at the Dept. of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. in 1934. In 1961 he was appointed director of the Cotton Division, a post he held through three Presidential Administrations. In 1980, Mr. and Mrs. Moss retired to Kilmarnock. He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church. He was also an active supporter of many community projects, including the Northern Neck Health Clinic. Mr. Moss was preceded in death by Elizabeth Waite "Betty" Moss, his wife of 49 years. They are survived by the families of their four children, Joseph Alexander Moss Jr. and his wife, Marina Shultz of Pacifica, Calif.; Richard Waite Moss, his wife, Cynthia and their daughters, Stacey and Ashley of Kilmarnock; Catherine Amanda Moss and her daughter, Nadia of Salem, Ohio; and William Pitman Moss, his wife, Patricia Ann and their children, Sarah and Joey of Manassas, Va. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church. Remembrances, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Grace Episcopal Church or to the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic.

OAKES
Nelda Jo Oakes, 54, of Louisa, died Thursday, June 8, 2000 at the Cedars Nursing Home in Charlottesville. Born January 1, 1946 in Limestone County, Texas, she was the daughter of the late William Clifton Oakes and the late Ella Mae Hudmall Oakes. She was a member of the Rhoadesville Baptist Church in Orange County. She is survived by one sister, Linda Oakes Terry and her husband, Murphy Terry of Louisa; one brother, William Clifton Oakes Jr. of Wyndham in Crozet, Va.; three nephews, four great-nieces, two great-nephews. Memorial services will be Sunday, June 11, 2000 at 5 p.m. from the Louisa Memorial Baptist Church with interment in Texas. The Rev. David Cole will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Goshen Baptist Assn. Rurallove Ministry, P.O. Box 296, Mineral, Va. 23117.

PERKINS
Clarence E. Perkins "Toe" of Richmond departed this life June 7, 2000. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy G. Perkins; sisters-in-law, Amy Perkins of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Almeida G. Doggett; brother-in-law, James Gillespie; numerous nieces and nephews; devoted great-nephew, Bryan Uzzell; a host of other relatives and friends. His remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home, where his family will receive friends 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday. After 10 a.m. Monday, his remains will rest at All Souls Presbyterian Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Rev. Bluford officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Ruth Marie Ryals, age 70, of Richmond, died Thursday, June 8, 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Ryals Jr., and is survived by one son, Charles C. Ryals III and wife, Terri; one grandson, Charles C. Ryals IV; one step-granddaughter, Mariah Jones; one sister, Anne Brooks, Gloucester. Mrs. Ryals was a member of the OES Naomi Chapter, a member of Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church and a retired employee of Southern Department Stores (in Williamsburg). Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and where services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

STAPLES
Mary Claytor "Jo" Staples, 77, formerly of Colonial Heights, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2000 at Southside Regional Medical Center. A native of Prince George County, she was a daughter of the late William Leonard and Annie Wyatt Claytor. She was a retired employee of C&P Telephone Company, a member of the C&P Telephone Pioneers, the Oak Hill Floral Club of Colonial Heights, and St. John’s Episcopal Church, Petersburg. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Arthur P. Goodwyn of Dinwiddie; a sister, Elizabeth Claytor; and a brother, Thomas J. Claytor, both of Petersburg; and a nephew, Capt. E. T. Hodnett, U.S. Navy, of Honolulu, Hawaii. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2000 at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. George Estes, Rev. James King, and Rev. Harry Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. THOMAS
Brenda J. R. Thomas died June 7, 2000 suddenly of a heart attack. She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel D. Zemlanko. Survivors include her adopted father, Henry A. Richardson; two devoted pets, Precious and Special. She was a long time employee of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church this coming week. St. Elmo M. (Pete) Wyatt died Friday, June 9, 2000. The family is being served by the Bliley Funeral Home’s Staples Mill Chapel. Funeral notice later.

ARMSTRONG
Violette Stith Cleaton Armstrong, 89, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2000. She was a resident of The Hermitage in Richmond. She was the widow of William H. Cleaton and Robert L. Arm strong. Mrs. Armstrong was a retired supervisor in the accounting department at Virginia Carolina Chemical. She is survived by several devoted cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2, in Oakwood Cemetery.

BRADNER
Numa Page Bradner, 75, of the 500 block of Scarsborough Drive, died Friday, September 1, 2000 in Chesapeake. Mr. Bradner was born in Yanceyville, N.C. and was the son of the late Harry and Bettie Ma e Page Bradner. He grew up in Danville, Va., where he attended George Washington High School and was very active in football and baseball. Mr. Bradner then earned his bachelor of science degree from Hampden-Sydney College and his masters degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, Va. Mr. Bradner retired after having served thirty years as a teacher, principal, superintendent and director of secondary education for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Survivors include his wife, Amy Lee Hatcher Bradner of Chesapeake; three sons, James P. Bradner of Chesapeake, Jeffrey P. Bradner of Hanover Co., Va. and Joseph P. Bradner of Bridgehampton, N.Y.; two sisters, Wilma Weber of Danville, Va. and Betty Henderson of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2000 at the Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church, Danville, Va. Rev. Rebecca Yow and Rev. Linwood Wells will officiate. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Danville. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. until the service time at 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to The Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsey Inc., Woodholme Medical Building, Suite 515, 1838 Green Tree Road, Baltimore, Md. 21208.

EDEN
James Edward Eden, age 80, of Richmond, died Friday, September 1, 2000. Son of the late Alex and Myrtle Angel Eden, born in Pruden, Tenn., he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Clark Eden; two sons, Alex Clark Eden of Martinsville, Va. and Dr. Robert Scott Eden of Annapolis, Md.; one sister, Dolores Eden of Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, John Eden of Seaford, Del.; also seven grandchildren, Alex and his wife, Lauren, Jana, Jamie, Jennifer, Suzanne, William and Andrew Eden. He was predeceased by one sister, Lucille Eden. Mr. Eden received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Lincoln Memorial University and doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee Law School. Mr. Eden served in the US Navy as a lieutenant during WWII. He practiced in private practice in Bristol, Tenn. before joining Prudential Mortgage Loan Dept. He served as resident attorney both in Richmond and Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Eden was a charter member and elder of River Rd. Presbyterian Church, a long time member and past chairman of the board of trustees for the Presbyterian School of Christian Education. His hobbies were photography and golf. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, September 3, 2000 at River Rd. Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. following a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may to made to Union Theological Seminary, Presbyterian School of Christian Education.

GOLD
Hyman N. Gold, age 96, of Niles, Ill. and formerly of Richmond, Va., died Thursday, August 31, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Sadie; sister, niece, great-niece and nephew, two stepchildren and spouses, four stepgrandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren. Mr. Gold was a founding member of the 2400 Club of Richmond, Va., which provided camp for needy children. Private memorial service and interment will be held in New York.

JOLLY
Lila Lee Jolly of Chesterfield died August 30, 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Jolly; and her daughter, Patricia Siddall. She is survived by a daughter, Kathie Ligon; a son, Thomas W. Jolly Jr.; a sister, Irene Henry; two grandchildren, Justin and Jeremy Siddall. Mrs. Jolly was a longtime employee of Chesterfield County schools. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd. Open visitation will be held beginning Friday at 2 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. with interment at Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 9221 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va. 23235.
