Walter Thomas (Jr.) Chewning Jr., 53, of Hopewell, died Thursday, November 26, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Susan Jean Chewning; his children, Brit Chewning, Shelley Chewning, Donnie Chewning, Lynn, Christal Chewning, and Lisa Ann Gray; three sisters; two grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Henshaw and Hunter Dean Gray; and his faithful dog, "Bandit". Mr. Chewning was Commodore of the Jordan Point Yacht Club. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday (today) and where funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, November 29. Interment private. Memorial donations may be made to the Children's Hospital.

COX
Edwin Cox, III, 67 of Richmond died Wednesday, November 25, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Sally Carr Cox; his daughter, Virginia Meade Cox Evans, of Louisville, Ky.; three sons, Edwin Carr Cox, of Richmond; James Maxwell Cox, of Kenansville, N.C., and William Hatcher Cox, of Alta Vista, Va.; and one granddaughter, Virginia Peyton Randolph Evans, of Louisville, Ky. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 28, 1998 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Dr. Todd Wasserman, Washington University, Radiation Oncology Center, 4511 Forest Park Blvd., St. Louis, Mo., 63108; Sons of the Revolution (Virginia Chapter) and/or Virginia military Institute, Alumni Association.

EVANS
LTC William Evan Evans, 82, of Colonial Heights, died Wednesday, November 25, 1998 at his residence. He was the son of the late William and Louise Schoknecht Evans, a native of Oakpark, Ill. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran of WWII, Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was awarded numerous service medals to include the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He was a member and former director of Petersburg Kiwanis Club. He was a founder of the Southside Chapter of The Retired Officers Assoc. (TROA), and served as a past editor of the local news letter for that chapter, for which he received two national recognition awards. He was a founder and past vice president of The Memorial Society of TROA, and a founder and past president of Roper military Estate. He is survived by his wife, Clara P. Evans; a son, William E. Evans Jr. of Dinwiddie; two daughters, Louise Carlson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Adelaide Lee of Colonial Heights; two grandchildren, Joseph H. Dunnigan II of Tulsa, Okla., Stephen C. Franse of Calgary, Alberta, Cana da. Graveside services will take place Monday, November 30, 1998 at 3 p.m. in Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George Co. with the Reverend Bill Priddy officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Massey Cancer Center at MCV, 401 N. 12th Street, Richmond, Va. 23298.

FOX
Cora S. Fox, 95, of Aylett, widow of James W. Fox, died November 26, 1998. She is survived by five of her seven children, Dorothy Pitts, Lillian Pabon, Marion Upshaw, Nelson and Carol Fox; two special granddaughters, Carolyn Helmick and Faye Vega, as well as many other loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Allen and Annie Moore. Remains rest at the B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett. Service at Sharon Baptist Church, King William, at 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment in church cemetery.

FREEMAN
Robert E. Freeman Sr., of Powhatan, died November 26, 1998. He is survived by three sons, Roger L. Freeman of Louisa, Robert E. Jr. and his wife, Lynn Freeman, Ricky D. and his wife, Frances Freeman; two daughters and their husbands, Alice F. and Mandes Schiarelli, Nora F. and Danny Coley, all of Powhatan; one brother, Gene F. Freeman Sr. of Henrico; and 11 grandchildren. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway, Powhatan, and where services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment 2 p.m. Monday in the Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion.

GREENE
Calvin R. "Red" Greene of Charles City, departed this life November 25, 1998. He is survived by a devoted daughter, Gail Cotman; devoted sister, Alice Allen; two brothers, Henry and Delly Greene; one brother -in-law; two sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, devoted Sherry Greene and Juanita Brown. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. At noon Monday, will rest at Little Elam Baptist Church, where service will be held 2 p.m. Rev. Robert W. Young officiating. Interment church cemetery.

GRIFFIN
Dolores Rock Griffin, 66, the widow of Clarence Ray Griffin Sr., died Wednesday, November 25, 1998. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Clarence Ray Griffin Jr. and daughter, Dale Griffin Ragland; also a wonderful mother, Grace Crook; and three wonderful sisters, Emma Sims, Teensy Brooks and Trudy Wright; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Griffin retired from the William Byrd Press. Friends may call at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave. on Friday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and where services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with burial in Washington Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the National Leukemia Society.

HALL
Harry Hall Jr., 80, died Thursday, November 26, 1998. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bowden Hall; son, Harry Hall III and his wife, Holly; three grandsons, John, Frank, and Tom; three sisters, Beatrice Blevins of Bluefield, Va., Kathleen Tabor and her husband, Glenn of Bluefield; Juanita Janutolo and her husband, Tom of Princeton, W.Va.; one brother, Charles J. Hall and his wife, Theresa of Wayne, Mich. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harry Hall and Paigie Hall, as well as brothers, Garnett and Rowland. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 11 a.m. at Tuckahoe Baptist Church, 9400 Gayton Rd., Richmond. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tuckahoe Rescue Squad or the Hospice of Central Virginia.

HARVEY
Louise Moon Harvey, 87, of Richmond, died November 25, 1998. She is survived by one son, William W. Harvey III; one cousin, Kelly Keech; one niece, Marcia Harter; two nephews, Lawrence J. and William Bernard Myers; and her beloved cat, Rhapsody. Mrs. Harvey was a past member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church and a member of First Presbyterian Church. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. where the family will receive friends Friday, November 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund at First Presbyterian Church.

HOLMES
William (Bill) A. Holmes, 82, of Richmond, died November 26, 1998. Mr. Holmes was retired from DuPont and is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth H. Terrell, Dianne H. McGuinness, both of Richmond, Judith H. Bobbitt of Montpelier, Va.; one sister, Virginia H. Woodson; one brother, Gilbert Holmes, both of Richmond; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; one great-granddaughter. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday and where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment Fork Episcopal Church Cemetery, Ashland, Va. Memorial gifts to St. Paul's Catholic Church Building Fund, 909 Rennie Ave., Richmond, 23227.

HOWELL
Wayne M. Howell, 49, of Oklahoma, formerly of Caroline Co., died November 25, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Sue Howell; his children, Cory Howell and Karen Randall; his mother, Margaret Howell; sister, Linda; brothers, Roy and Larry Howell. Funeral services will be held at Reid-Culver Funeral Home, Oklahoma, Monday 1 p.m.

Mrs. Frances C. Jones, of Charles City, departed this life November 27, 1998 at the home of her niece, Barbara Crawley. She is survived by a sister, Clarice Barksdale; one brother Calvin Charity, both of Jessup, Md.; three sisters-in-law, Coreen, Betty, and Marjorie Charity; her devoted nephew and caretakers, Robert, Barbara and Stacy Charity; devoted niece, Barbara Crawley; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. Service 2 p.m. Sunday at Gilfield Baptist Church. Rev. James H. Johnson officiating, assisted by Rev. Carlton Greene. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Gilfield Scholarship or Building Fund.

JUWA
Carolyn Clements Juwa, 51, of Chesterfield, died Thursday, November 26, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey J. Juwa; three daughters, Cheryl Louise Simpson and her husband, Mark, Candace Morton Robinson and her husband, Eric, and Danielle Seamans Klement and her husband, Alvin; one son, Richard David Seamans and his wife, Rachel; one sister, Kathleen Clements Jackson; one brother, Richard David Clements; six grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Tomahawk Baptist Church, interment Genito Cemetery.

KIRTON
David Miles Kirton, age 39, of Midlothian, died November 26, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Maria Agnes Velarde Kirton (Registered Nurse, St. Mary's Hospital for 13 years); his daughter, Chelsea Nicole Kirton; his parents, Robert T. and Janice G. Kirton of Midlothian; two brothers, Steven Craig Kirton and Robert Jeffrey Kirton; his mother and father -in-law, Aurora Guerrero and Felix Berto Velarde of Leyte, Philippines; his aunt, Jean Thomas of Horseshoe Beach, Fla.; his aunt and uncle, Mary Frances and Wayne Jones of Conyers, Ga. and his uncle, Larry Goodson of Marietta, Ga. and other close relatives and friends. Mr. Kirton attended Huguenot Road Baptist Church and was a parishioner of St. Edward's Catholic Church, was a member of Salisbury Country Club. He was an insurance agent with Allstate Insurance Co. for 13 years and a graduate from VCU (alumni of 1985). Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Huguenot Chapel Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where services will be held 1 p.m.

NEWELL
Died November 27, 1998 Alma G. Newell, 86. She is survived by her husband, Grover C. Newell Sr.; her son, Grover C. Newell Jr.; her sister, Mary Riddell; her grandsons, T. Scott, and A. Roy Newell also four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. where services will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m. Interment Forest Lawn. Memorial gifts may be made to the Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad or Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church.

NUCKOLS
Lunsford Thomas Nuckols Jr. of Topping, formerly of Richmond, who would have celebrated his 80th birthday on Christmas Eve, departed this life on Wednesday, November 25, 1998. Mr. Nuckols spent his youth in St. Paul, Va. and attended Virginia Polytechnical Institute and Marshall University. He was working for the C & O Railroad, where his later father was chief engineer, when World War II broke. He immediately enlisted in the Army and was attached to the 740th Railway Operations Battalion of the 1st Army serving in the European theater. He was given an honorable discharge as a Captain. Upon his return home, he began his life long career as an Insurance Consultant. While rearing three children as a single parent, he started his own insurance business that bore his name. He eventually met, fell in love with, and wed his current wife, Bankie, in January 1961. They have spent most of their years together on Oxford Circle East in Richmond, in Boca Raton, Fla. and at the river home in Topping. He was Secretary-Treasurer of AAAAA-5 Star Travel Services, Inc. which he and Bankie started in 1985. He is a 57 year member of the Poage Masonic Lodge of Ashland, Kentucky, the Tidewater Shrine Club and Khedive Shrine Temple. He was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Route 33 and 3, in Topping, where a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 1st at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends in the social hall of the church Sunday, November 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. He will be long remembered for his honesty, integrity, loyalty and his wonderful sense of humor, plus his devotion to family and friends. He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth (Bankie) Stiff Nuckols; daughter, Noral Nuckols Arquin and husband, Will, of McLean; sons, Lunsford T. Nuckols III, and Channing MacNeil Nuckols and his wife, Karen Stumpf Nuckols of Richmond; grandchildren, Laura Ann Ricker of Brooklyn, N.Y., Matthew Michael Nuckols of Golden, Colo., Carol Lee Ricker of Radford and Mark Fletcher Ricker of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; father of the grandchildren, Conley Ricker of Falls Church; and goddaughter, Janet Abbott Fast of Warsaw. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Children After School Mission Program of Harmony Grove, P.O. Box 138, Topping, Va. 23169; the Khedive Temple Children's Hospital Transportation Fund, 645 Woodlake Dr., Chesapeake, Va. 23320; or the American Cancer Society c/o Betty Page Bristow, P.O. Box 22, Urbanna, Va. 23175. Arrangements made by Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home in Saluda.

Ruby H. Fischer Porter, 87, of Richmond died Thursday, November 26. She is survived by her husband James H. Porter; three stepchildren, Mary Lou Stitzer, Robert M. Porter and James Scott Porter Sr.; and several grandchildren. Mrs. Porter retired from the Social Security Office in Richmond. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where the family will receive friends on Sunday November 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. Also where a service will be conducted Monday 11 a.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Manor Care Nursing Home, and Hospice of Central Va., for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, for Stroke Research, 4323 Cox Rd., Glen Allen, Va. 23060.
