J. T. Bonham, of Richmond, departed this life Wednesday, April 21, 1999. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

CARWILE
Died April 20, 1999, Linwood T. "Lenny" Carwile of Ashland. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Carwile; his children, Amy Lawson and her husband, Mike, Steven D., Zachary T. and Courtney M. Carwile. The family will receive friends Friday 5 to 7 p.m. in the Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o 211 Lees Lane, Ashland, 23005. Mr. Carwile was a long-time employee of Philip Morris as an electrician.

CORWIN
Mary K. Corwin, 85, of Richmond, passed away April 21, 1999. She is survived by a daughter, Cathryn Amerault of Centreville, Va.; four grandchildren, Clay, Clark, Alan and Lindsay Amerault. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Reveille United Methodist Church chapel.

DAVIS
Graveside services are scheduled for Mr. Albert Davis, Friday (today), 12 noon, at Oakwood Cemetery. Family and friends kindly assemble at Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., 11:30 a.m.

DEANE
Alice M. Deane, age 80, of Richmond, died Thursday, April 22, 1999. She was the widow of Rudolph R. Deane and is survived by her three children, Norine D. Smith, James E. Dean and Creola D. Chenault; one brother and sister; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

HALL
Robie J. Hall of Heathsville, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at McGuire Medical Center. Son of the late Filmore H. and Sarah A. Dodson Hall, he was born at Farnham, Virginia, July 20, 1913. He is survived by his wife, Suppora Beatley Hall; brothers, Thomas D. Hall and Gilliam F. Hall Sr. both of Remo; sisters, Pearl Lewis of Warsaw, Lilly Bryant of Reedville, Lillian Hall of Farnham, Ilva N. Collins of Wicomico and Allene S. Ashburn of Callao. Graveside services to be held Friday (today) April 23, at 11 a.m. Fairfields United Methodist Church Cemetery. Officiated by Revs. James Bethany and Lee Scripture.

HOWELL
Lillian F. Howell of Powhatan Co., departed this life Sunday, April 18, 1999. She leaves to mourn her passing, two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Fisher and Mrs. Blanche Farrar; one son, James Howell Jr.; one sister, Mrs. Martha Wyche; three brothers, David and Joseph Fisher and LeRoy Hargrave; two brothers-in-law, Robert Howell and Wilbur Wyche; four sisters-in-law, Alice Fisher, Loretta Fisher, Mildred Fisher and Mahalia Hargrave; five grandchildren, among them, one devoted, Gaither Fisher; six great-grandchildren; one foster daughter, Shirley Adams (Lil Bit); a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, one devoted cousin, Sel Fisher; four devoted friends, Senna Coles, Ruby Leonard, Shanda Gilliam and Cora Bates; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24, 11 a.m. at Hollywood Baptist Church, Powhatan Co., Rev. Luke Benton, Pastor, Bishop Lawrence L. Taylor officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. After 10 a.m. Saturday, remains will rest in the above- named church until hour of service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the church, Saturday 10:30 a.m.

JOHNSON
Ruth L. Johnson, 80, of Richmond, died April 16, 1999. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lucille Johnson and sisters, Betty J. Burke and Elaine J. Steele. Miss Johnson was a retiree of Bellwood (DGSC). Her remains rest at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10), where her funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 1999. Interment will be at the Maury Cemetery. Ruth's friends are invited to visit one another one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

LEARY
Herbert E. Leary, 71, of Richmond, Va., died April 12, 1999. He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his sister, Gloria P. Jenkins and her husband, Lester L. Jr.; nephew, Lester Lee III; his wife, Patty Jenkins; and great-niece Tabatha Lee Jenkins; stepnephews, James Tyler Backus; three cousins. Interment Ford Harrison Cemetery. A memorial service later.

MADDOX
Departed this life April 18, 1999, Mrs. Allison Y. Maddox of 1744 Clarkson Rd., Apt. D. She is survived by three daughters, Ecila Robinson, Kiara and Micah Maddox; mother, Alice Robinson; one brother, Curtis Robinson; one stepsister; two stepbrothers; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; four aunts; three uncles; mother-in-law; four sisters-in-law; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Saturday, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church - South Richmond, 15th and Decatur Sts., where funeral services will be held Saturday 12 noon. Rev. Dwight Jones officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery.

MARTINEK
Miss Bessie Martinek, 89, of Quinton, passed away at her home, Wednesday, April 21, 1999. She is survived by one devoted niece, Doris Parsley and 11 other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Martinek. Miss Martinek was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where friends may call anytime on Friday, and where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24. Interment Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.

NEWBURY
Doris M. Newbury, 83, of Wallingford, Conn., widow of C. Morgan Newbury, died Tuesday, April 20, in Wallingford. Born in New London, lived in Richmond, Virginia, and Jamestown, New York prior to retiring to Florida. Later settling in a retirement village in Wallingford. She leaves two sons and their wives, Terence D. and Cheryl Newbury of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dennis and Loretta Newbury of Malvern, Penn.; two sisters; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday in the Masonic Geriatric HealthCare Center in Wallingford. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grant and Aid Fund, c/o the Masonic Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, Conn. 06492.

PRICE
John W. Price, age 82, of Richmond, Va., died April 21, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Price; two daughters, Elnora Alfred and Gladys Smith; one son, James E. Price; one stepson, Frederick Williams; one daughter-in-law, Branda H. Price; a sister, Martha P. Harding; stepsister, Lucy Winston of Ashland, Va.; stepbrother, Fonzie Garnett of Washington, D.C.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; a host of nieces and nephews; relatives and friends. His remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Saturday, 11 a.m. at Cedar Street Baptist Church of God, 2301 Cedar St., where funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24, 1999, at 12 noon. Dr. Benjamin W. Robertson officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

REMSBURG
Brent Remsburg, a resident of 236 Barter Dr., Abingdon, Va., died Wednesday, April 21, 1999. He was a former Town Manager of Abingdon, who retired in 1981, who was a veteran of 46 years in public service employment. He was a native of Lynchburg, Va. who was raised in Lexington, Va. He attended Washington & Lee University and VPI, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Naval Construction Battalion (Sea Bees). He had served as the Assistant City Engineer in Martinsville, Va. and Town Engineer in South Boston, Va.; as well as Acting Town Manager. He had also served as Town Manager of Vienna and Herndon, Va. A member of Rotary International since 1954, with perfect attendance for 40 years, he served as President of the Herndon, Va. Rotary Club and he was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1981. He was a life member of The International City Management Association and The American Waterworks Association and Vice Chairman of the Abingdon Planning Commission. He was a member of the Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon. He was a son of the late Chester C. and Elizabeth Roberson Remsburg. Survivors include his wife, Vera Baron Remsburg of Abingdon, Va. and several cousins. Memorial services for Brent Remsburg will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Robert Tolar Jr. officiating. Interment will be private at a later date in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Lexington, Va. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Abingdon Town Council and C.B. Hale, David Brillhart, Ralph Marbury, Paul Kelsey, Lue Spiva, Mike Maiden, Al Bradley, Mickey Newman, Forrest Little, Jack Hemmings and Mac Blackwell. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy may be in the form of memorial contributions to the U.S.A. Fund Number 298, c/o Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, 136 E. Main St., Abingdon, Va. 24210. Campbell Funeral Home of Abingdon is in charge of arrangements.

RIBBLE
Mary Beale Ribble, 94, died Saturday April 17, 1999 at Westminster-Canterbury. Miss Ribble was a daughter of the late Rev. Dr. John Francis Ribble, and his wife Mary Gordon Beale. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Westminster-Canterbury on Monday April 26, 1999, at 2 p.m. Burial at a later date in Casanova, Virginia.

ROANE
Maria Louise Roane, age 62, departed this earth April 20, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Hanes Roane Sr.; seven children, Thomas Garlick, Linda, Amanda, Catherine and Marvin Roane, all of King William, Hanes Jr. of Caroline and Brenda White of Richmond; her mother, Ada and stepfather, Joseph Joshua of King William; one uncle, Thomas Carter; one aunt, Lucinda Harris; a sister, Irene Kenney of Richmond; and recently predeceased by a sister, Lucille Garlick; two brothers, Joe Garlick of King William and Carroll Joshua of Columbus, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Annie Garlick; two daughters-in-law, Daye Roane and Lelia Garlick; one son-in-law, Bruce White; numerous grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She also had two very special and devoted friends, Carolyn Upshaw and Cammie Lee Harris. Remains rest at the B.W. White Funeral Home, King William C.H. where visitation will be Friday. Service Saturday at Gethsemane Baptist Church at 2 p.m.

ROBINSON
Mrs. Marian W. Robinson, 81, of Richmond, died April 21, 1999. She was the widow of Judge Spottswood W. Robinson III. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral notice later.

SHUMATE
Doris S. (Dot) Shumate, the widow of Jesse D. Shumate, Sr. passed away Tuesday April 20, 1999. She is survived by two daughters, June S. and her husband Leon Baldwin, Sandston, and Evelyn S. and her husband Roger Hatcher of Cumberland; her son, Jesse D., Jr. and his wife Kathie Shumate of Richmond; a sister, Mary S. Wright of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a brother, Allen Shiver of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandsons, Paul and Will Hatch er, Ryan and Eric Shumate; two granddaughters, Beth B. and her husband Matt Pastore, and Laura Hatcher. Mrs. Shumate was a member of Sandston Presbyterian Church, Sandston Women's Club and was an avid bridge player and golfer. Friends may call at the Laburnum Chapel Woody Funeral Home 2110 E. Laburnum Ave. on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Sandston Presbyterian Church with burial in Washington Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be made to the E. Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad, or Sandston Presbyterian Church.

SMITH
Thomas Vernelle Smith (Cherokee) died April 22, 1999. He is survived by his mother, Mary S. Gentry; two children, Mandi and Tommie III; three siblings, Connie Vaughan, Cathy and David Gentry, all of Richmond. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Graveside services will be held 12 noon Saturday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

STARKE
Mrs. Alma Mayes Starke, 86, of Jarratt, widow of Jodie Starke, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999. She is survived by a son, Lawrence C. Starke of Petersburg. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, at Owen Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

SULLY
Mr. Jackson "Jack" Sully, of Richmond, departed this life April 20, 1999. He is survived by his devoted daughters, Marcia N. Talley of New Jersey and Donna Sully of Richmond; grandchildren, Evan Jackson Talley and Olivia Mae Talley; a loving and devoted aunt, Mrs. Lola Haskins; son-in-law, Marc R. Talley; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, among them devoted, Marcella Byrd of New York, Sydney Henry Travis of Richmond and James Holcombe of Richmond; other relatives and friends, three devoted, Geraldine Delores Harris, Barbara Randall and Douglas Johnson. His remains rest at the W. S. Watkins & Son Funeral home where his family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Friday and where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Alonza Lawrence officiating. Interment Riverview Cemetery.

SYKES
William H. (Willie) Sykes, Sr., of Richmond, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999. survived by his wife, of 61 years, Ruby T. Sykes; three sons, Wayne, Donald, and Bill Sykes all of Richmond; six grandchildren and four sisters, Bertha Andrews, Doris Lewis, Lil Bottoms, and Eilene Fields. Mr. Sykes was a retired employee of Reynolds Metals and a Navy Veteran of WWII. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 23, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 8001 Franklin Farms Dr., Richmond, Va. 23229.
