Betty Hortense Smith, 86, of Goochland, passed away, October 31, 1999. She is survived by her son, Ronald D. Gentry and his wife, Karen. She is also survived by a brother, Clyde Gray; a sister, Mary Ly nn Loving; and her grandchildren, James-Robert Adam Gentry and Summer Martin Gentry. Betty lived a happy and full life. She enjoyed music, dancing, and caring for her flowers in her yard. Betty had many friends and she always made them smile with her great sense of humor. Thelma Edwards Sutton, 90, of Hopewell, died Saturday, October 30, 1999 in the Hopewell Convalescent Center. Mrs. Sutton was born in Columbia County, Florida, a daughter of the late, James Marvin and Mary Ellen Long Edwards. She was retired from the Analine Corporation. Preceded in death by her husband, Max Lee Sutton, she is survived by several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 2, in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Harold Alvin Browder, 69, of Colonial Heights died Sunday, May 18, 1997 in Johnston-Willis Hospital, Richmond. A native of Petersburg, he was the son of the late Ellwood Lee and Alice Allridge Browder. Mr. Browder was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired with 35 years in civil service at Fort Lee, and was owner/operator of Browder Silk Screening. Survivors include his wife, Mabel L. Browder; daughters, Alaine Vaughan of Hopewell, Katie Puryear, Anita Lesyk, Deborah Browder, Tammy Willmer and Bobbi East, all of Colonial Heights; son, Gary Browder of Richmond; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and brother; Gerald Browder of Colonial Heights. The son of the late William Percy Sr. and Augusta Dodge Cullins, he was born in Ports mouth, Va., and had been a resident of this area since 1974.
