Robert "Bob" McDaniel Bobbitt, 78, of Farmville, died February 7, 1997. Retired manager of Heart of Virginia Old Farmer's Market. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Weddle Bobbitt; two sisters, Kathryn B. and her husband, John Smiley of Norlina, N.C. and Natalie B. Rodwell of Littleton, N.C.; one brother and his wife, Malcolm J. and Joyce Bobbitt of Henderson; six sisters-in-law, Elaine W. and husband, Walter Chestnut of Hadley, Mass., Frances, Carlene, and Joyce Bobbitt, Mary Lewis and Marie Weddle, all of N.C.; one brother-in- law, A. Dane and wife, Betty Weddle of Roanoke; 32 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews. Visitation 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services 2 p.m. Monday at Enterprise Baptist Church, Littleton, N.C., with interment in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions to your favorite charity.

BOWLES
Katharine Dixon Bowles, died Saturday, February 8, 1997 at her home. Born in New Bern, N.C., she was the widow of Eugene Gray Bowles. She was a graduate of St. Luke's Hospital and did hospital and private duty nursing in Richmond for many years. She was known and loved by many as the school nurse at St. Christopher's School. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, The Woman's Club, and served for many years on the Board of Children's Hospital. She is survived by her children, Bernard Brookes Lipford, Eugene Gray Bowles Jr., Susanne Bowles Royster of Roanoke and Beverley Ruffin Bowles; her beloved grandchildren, Bryen Shae Lipford, Spencer Bowles Broadbent, Eugene Gray Bowles III, Peter Hartwell Bowles, Jesse Dillon Bowles, Randolph Lewis Royster III, Virginia Gray Royster, Jennifer Bowles Royster, and William Kirkland Royster. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 10, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made to the Children's Hospital.

BUTLER
Merkie Hackney Butler of Gum Spring, Va., died Friday, February 7, 1997. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hackney and a granddaughter, Kathy Ann Grady. She is survived by her husband, Russell H. Butler of Goochland; four daughters, Betty Thurston of Goochland, Emma Dillard of Gum Spring, Josie Grady and Shirley Stull, both of Goochland; one brother; three sisters; and nine grandchildren, Ginger Palmer, Amy Thurston, Mark Thurston, Annette Jones, Thersa Butler, Kenneth Dillard, Brett Dillard, Cari Dillard, Rusty Stull and a great- granddaughter, Kaytlyn Jones. Memorial funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday (today) at the Lacy Funeral Home, Rt. 522, Orchid, Va. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to your local fire or rescue unit.

COLLINS
Gary Collins of McLeansville, N.C., died Friday, February 7, 1997 at Moses H. Cone Hospital. A native of Rock Hill, S.C., he was a graphic artist. He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Largent-Collins; daughters, Michelle A. Collins of New Haven, Conn., Nicole Largent of Greensboro, Marie Robinson Benjamin of Richmond, Va., Channelle A. Collins of Richmond, Va., and Amika A. Collins of New Haven, Conn.; five grandchildren; mother, Martha McMoore Jackson of Richmond, Va.; father, Harry W. Collins of Rock Hill, S.C.; brothers, Perry James of Jamaica, N.Y., and Otha Collins of Greensboro, N.C.; sisters, Bettye Ann Joiner of Staten Island, N.Y., and Harriett Stanton of Richmond, Va. Visitation Monday at the church from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday February 10, 1997 at 2 p.m. at East White Oak Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park. Arrangements entrusted to Hargett Funeral Service.

CORN
Sue Corn, of Richmond, Va., a pioneer in the profusion field, died February 7, 1997. She is survived by her mother, Jeanne E. Corn of Fredericksburg, Texas; brother Harvey R. Corn of Austin, Texas; and her very dear friend, Marcie Tate of Richmond. A memorial service will be held Tuesday 12:30 p.m. at the chapel of St. Mary's Hospital. Interment private. Parham Chapel Woody Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

CUNNINGHAM
Minerva Cleo Cunningham entered into eternal rest on February 5, 1997. She was born in Drewery's Bluff, Va. to the late Riley and Clara Mason. She accepted Christ at the age of twelve and was a very faithful member of the First Baptist Church of South Richmond. Minerva leaves to cherish her memory one brother, Thirling Mason; one brother-in-law, Thomas Lee Sr.; five nieces, one devoted, Thomasine E. Fisher; nine nephews, one devoted, James R. Crews; twelve great-nieces, one devoted, April G. Fisher; 16 great- nephews; one goddaughter, Erna Jones; two devoted friends and companions, Eric and Angela Thompson, all of Richmond; and a host of great- great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 10, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, South Richmond. Rev. Dwight C. Jones, Pastor, officiating. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. After 10 a.m. Monday, remains will rest in the above named church. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the church Monday, 10:30 a.m.

DONATI
Leo Nell Donati, 80, of Chester, went to Heaven, Friday, February 7, 1997. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Annie Donati; a daughter, Judi Allen; grandson, Devon Miles Allen; a sister, Grace Haftmann; two broth ers, Charles and Harry Donati. Nell retired from Dixie Container Corp. in 1963 and was proud to have served his country in World War II. He will be sorely missed by his loved ones and many friends. A Memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd.

EUBANK
Florence Morris Eubank, 93, of Richmond, widow of Robert Edward Eubank died February 7, 1997. She is survived by her daughter and son-in- law; Virginia Eubank and Adolphus B. Shepherd; two granddaughters and their husbands, Ellen and Robert Mayo, Ashley and Jerry Sisson; one grandson, Stephen Michelle Shepherd; also two great-grandsons, Scott Carrington and Lee Shepherd Mayo all of Richmond. Mrs. Eubank was the oldest member of Tabernacle Bap tist Church and a member of the Ruth Chapter No. 8, O.E.S. The family will receive friends Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. and where services will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church.

EWING
James Frederick Ewing, 78, of Richmond, died February 6, 1997 in a local hospital. He is survived by his wife, Frances Jordan Ewing; 3 children, Tom and Fred Ewing and Polly Brown; sister, Peggy Ewing; 8 grand children; 7 great-grandchildren. He was born in Monongahela, PA and served with the 28th Division and 110th Infantry during WWII. He was a former employee with Thalhimer Brothers and Firestone Tire Centers and also was a member and past Commander of The American Legion Post 137. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, and where services will be conducted 10 a.m. Sunday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

FERGUSON
Elsie Clark, Ferguson, 88, of Newport News, died Friday, February 7, 1997 in Sentara Hampton General Hospital. She was a native of Sycamore, Va. and had been a Peninsula resident for over 60 years. Mrs. Ferguson was a member of West Hampton Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kehl L. Ferguson and a son, Jack L. Ferguson. Survivors include one son, Kenneth E. Ferguson of Richmond; four grandchildren; and four great-grand children. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.

GALVIN
William Roland Galvin, 93, of Richmond died Friday, February 7, 1997. Born in Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late William Francis and Mattie Wright Galvin. He was the widower of Louise Fry Galvin, M.D., who died in 1992. Mr. Galvin is survived by his sister, Frances Galvin Ward of Sterling; three nieces, Betty Ward Putnam of Warrenton, Ann Ward Lindengren of Bluemont and Dr. Grayson Foy of Richmond; two nephews, Stephen Beecher Ward of San Francisco, Calif. and William Roland Ward of Chesapeake; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Fry Foy and Mary Lillian Fry, both of Richmond. He received his B.S. from Richmond College, University of Richmond where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta, Omicron Delta Kappa, Sigma Pi Sigma and Pi Delta Epsilon. Mr. Galvin received his M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University. He taught at Blackstone military Acade my 1926-28, Chester High School 1928-29, John Marshall High School 1929-31, taught and was Head of the Science Department at Thomas Jefferson High School 1931-42, Assistant Principal at Thomas Jefferson High School 1942-45, and Principal at Westhampton Junior High School 1945-67. Mr. Galvin was a member of Boulevard United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Fry Bible Class, served as Historian and was an honorary member of the Administrative Board. He was Past President of the Richmond College Alumni Society, charter member and past board member of the Friends of Frederic W. Boatwright Library, charter member and Past President of the Kiwanis Club of West Richmond, member and Past President of the Richmond Civil War Round Table, member of the Virginia Historical Society, English Speaking Union, Museum of the Confederacy, Valentine Museum, member and Past President of the Richmond-Henrico Retired Teachers Association. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. where the family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 10. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

GATEWOOD
Evelyn H. Gatewood, 81, of Richmond, widow of Earl P. Gatewood, passed away Thursday, February 6, 1997. She is survived by two daughters, Lois G. Stewart and Nancy G. Allen; son-in-law, A. Vann Allen Jr.; four grandsons, Mark and Chris Allen, David Stewart, all of Richmond, and Michael Stewart, of New York City; a granddaughter, Katherine A. Tucker, of Richmond. Mrs. Gatewood was a member of Ginter Park United Methodist Church and was retired from the Virginia State Highway Department. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 10, 1997 in Westhampton Memorial Park.

GERIN
Suzanne Nott Gerin, 57, of Bethesda, Maryland, passed away Friday evening, February 7, 1997 after a long struggle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. She is survived by her loving daughter, Kathleen Eisenhofer and her devoted husband, John L. Gerin, Professor and Director of Molecular Virology and Immunology, Georgetown University Medical Center. Suzanne was sister to Mary Nott Saunders, Walter J. Nott, Frank H. Nott, Sherrard G. Nott and Kathleen Nott Handy (recently deceased), all of Richmond, Va., where she was born and raised. She married in 1960, the same year she graduated from Marymount College, Arlington, Va. Suzanne and John both attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, moved to Waukegan, Illinois, and settled in Bethesda in 1967. There Suzanne was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Parish, where she taught in the elementary school. Friends will be received at Pumphrey's Bethesda-Chevy Chase Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, Md. on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Richmond, Va. on Monday, February 10 at 1 p.m., followed by interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to ALS Research Program of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 Sunrise Dr., Tucson, AZ 85718-3208.

GRUBB
Taylor Inman Grubb Sr., 79, of Richmond, died Friday, February 7, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Betty D. Grubb; two sons and daughters-in- law, Taylor I. Jr. and Ellen Grubb and Gary W. and Leslie Grubb, all of Richmond; three grandchildren, Taylor I. Grubb III, Brian D. Grubb and Samuel D. Grubb; four sisters, Mable Perry of Indiana, Delia Martin of Colorado, Elinor Eriksen of Foster, Va. and Jane Grubb of Minnesota. Mr. Grubb retired as Manager of the A & P at Village Shopping Center after 45 years with A & P. He was a member of the Cofer-Decker/Fellowship Bible Class and served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church, was a member of the Westgate Lodge #352 and Botetourt Lodge #7 in Gloucester AF&AM and was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1 and the 90 & Nine Breakfast Club. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where a Masonic Memorial Service will be held 7 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Monument and Boulevard. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

HAWTHORNE
Departed this life in McGuire VA Hospital Thursday, February 6, 1997. Mr. John W. Hawthorne of 420 W. Bacon St. Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ida Hawthorne, who passed January 29, 1997. He leaves to cherish his memory, a great-grandson whom he and his wife adopted as their son, Michael Perry; two daughters-in-law, Darlene, and Mamie Perry; one brother, Stuart Hawthorne; three sisters-in-law, Grizell Royster, Betty Lue Gregory and Elizabeth Hawthorne; one brother-in-law, Calvin Gregory; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, among them, a devoted niece, Geraldine Gregory; many cousins and caring friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 10, 12 noon at the Second Baptist Church, 1400 Idlewood Ave. Rev. James Henry Harris, Pastor officiating. Interment in Maury Cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the church Monday 11:30 a.m.

HICKS
Lloyd Franklin Hicks, 82, of Richmond, retired engineer for C&O Railroad, died February 8, 1997. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hattie B. Hicks; two daughters, Carolyn Adams and Linda Hicks, all of Richmond; two sisters, Margaret Waltrip of Williamsburg and Dot Gordon of Lanexa; four grandchildren, Rick, Chris, Melissa, and Lori; nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Hicks was a member of Fairmount Baptist Church. Family will receive friends Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., and where services will be held Monday, 12:30 p.m. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

HITER
Died February 8, 1997, Lula Mae "Lou" Hiter, 76 of Mechanicsville, wife of the late W.Y. "Dick" Hiter. she is survived by her devoted daughter, Carol Hiter; cousins, Dorothy Pollard of Richmond and William Garnett Payne of California; devoted companions, Sally and Buddy. The family will receive friends Sunday 3 to 8 p.m. and Monday 4 to 8 p.m. in the Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, where services will be held Tuesday 1 p.m. Interment Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa.

INGE
Deborah Inge, 43, of Richmond went to be with the Lord on February 7, 1997. She is survived by her husband, John L. Inge Jr.; one son, Brian Kelly Inge; a stepdaughter, Brittney M. Inge; her mother, Clare Connell of Annandale, Va.; two sisters, Tracy Connell of Roselle, N.J. and Gail Winer of Hollywood, Fla.; a nephew, Jason Winer. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Maury Cemetery.

JOHNSON
Died February 6, 1997, Dewitt R. Johnson Jr. of 1014 Oakwood Ave. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Barbara L. Johnson; four children, Michael, Ernest, Jewell and Tonza; four grandchildren; one sister, Florence Mingo; several aunts and uncles; one son-in-law; two daughters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in- law; mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillie Mae Lyons; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., where the family will receive friends Sunday (today) from 5 to 6 p.m. and where funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. with Dr. Benjamin W. Robertson officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Johnson was a Past Master of Edward Jones Lodge No. 324 F & AM. He was a retired employee of Philip Morris, USA.

KORNEGAY
Mina Donnell Kornegay, 81, died Friday, February 7, 1997 at Henrico Doctors Hospital. She resided at Imperial Plaza, where up until last year, she had been very active. She directed the chorus, played the piano for hymn sings, directed the music for Saturday bible study, and was on the "Welcome Committee" to greet new residents, and had been an active member of the Ginter Park United Methodist Church. A native of Climax, N.C., she was formerly of Martinsville, where she retired from many years of teaching and was also organist and choir director for Chatham Heights United Methodist Church. Mrs. Kornegay was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Kornegay and is survived by their daughter, Linda K. Kelley; two grandchildren, Christopher Kelley of Graham, N.C. and Kimberly Kelley of Oxford, Miss.; and a brother, Jack Donnell of Greensboro, N.C. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and where funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday. Interment 3 p.m. Monday in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
