OVERTON
Lucille P. Overton, age 81, of Blackstone, died Saturday, October 16, 1999. She was the widow of Hayden K. Overton, and is survived by a son and his wife, Horace and Dora Perdieu of Mechanicsville; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cephas Pennington of Crewe and Aubrey Pennington of Petersburg; a sister, Emma Barker of South Boston. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lakeview Cemetery. O’DELL
Margaret (Peggy) Houff O’Dell, 49, of Midlothian, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 15, 1999. She is survived by her husband, John A. O’Dell; children, Elizabeth Jean of Atlanta, Ga., a student of Georgia Tech, Martha Louise of Richmond, a student of VCU, and John Keith of Midlothian, a student of James River High School; her parents, W. Harold Houff and Jean Roller Houff; brother, Stanley Houff; sister, Joan Houff, all of Weyers Cave, Va. Mrs. O’Dell served in many service and leadership roles at Calvary United Methodist Church in Stuarts Draft, Va., St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and Huguenot United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She was a former teacher and basketball coach at Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton, Va. Mrs. O’Dell was engaged in many extra curricular activities of her children, particularly the boys and girls basketball program and Athletic Boosters Club at James River High School. She also supported Camp Rainbow and Heart Havens which are charitable initiatives of the United Methodist Church. Her remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home’s Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Bon Air United Methodist Church. Interment 3 p.m. Monday at Naked Creek Cemetery in Weyers Cave, Va. David Christian Parsons, 20, of Kenbridge, Va., died October 15, 1999. He is survived by his parents, Dallas and Rita Parsons; his twin brother, John Paul Parsons; and his grandmother, Janie Parsons, all of Kenbridge. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 19, in the Kenbridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at all times at their home at 206 Mecklenburg Ave., Kenbridge. Pauline Reed Phipps, widow of Dr. Ray A. Phipps and preceded in death by her sister, Ernestine Reed Herd, died Saturday, October 16, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Sonia Phipps Brokaw; two grandsons, Dr. Jason Phipps Brokaw and Dr. Matthew Reed Brokaw; a brother-in-law, Dr. Dwight G. Herd; and a nephew, Ronald Reed Herd. Mrs. Phipps was born in Broadway, Ohio, to Bertha and Ernest Reed. She graduated from Ohio State University and taught in Woodstock, Ohio. She lived 60 years in Oberlin, Ohio, and moved to Midlothian to be near her daughter. While in Oberlin, she was a member of The First Church, and was active in The Nineteenth Century Club, Senior Forum and the Lorain County Dental Auxiliary. Graveside service 1 p.m. Tuesday at Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin, Ohio, with a reception to follow at The First Church.

Mrs. Shirley L. Prewitt, 70, of Glen Allen, formerly of Arlington, died Friday, October 15, 1999. She is survived by a daughter, Sue Tate; three sons, Reg Prewitt, David Prewitt and John Prewitt; 12 grandchildren; and a brother, Deke Goodrick. Ramona Red Cloud, age 82, of Boston, Mass., died Friday, October 15, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Zu Zue Red Cloud, and is survived by her nephews, Paul, Arnold, Raymond and Powhatan Owen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Red Cloud was a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Gaynell L. Rice, of Richmond, died Friday, October 15, 1999. She is survived by her nieces, Nancy Scott and Jean Alvis. "Izzy" Carolyn Page Wyatt Schrieberg, born February 14, 1945, entered the gates of larger life on October 16, 1999. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda May Israel and her loving parents, William "Bill" Wyatt and Nannie Belle "Nancy" Wyatt. She will be greatly missed by her brother, W. Mason Wyatt; her daughter, Nancy "Fita" Israel; her aunt, Katherine "Kitty" Wyatt; and her many other family members and friends, two legged and four. She was a dedicated nurse in the psychiatric department at St. Mary’s Hospital. Family and friends are invited to gather for a service in celebration of her life among us at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, at Shields Lake Shelter in Richmond’s Byrd Park. Gustavus (Sip) Winfrey Burton Jr. died October 29, 1999, a native of Richmond, Va. He is survived by his wife, Doris Harding Burton; a daughter, LaVerne R. Robinson of Apalachicola, Fla.; two sons; Harry H. (Hardy) Burton and his wife, Jacque Keane Burton of Reston, Va., and John M. (Jack) Burton and his wife, Dr. Carolyn Anne Fortner-Burton of Richmond; and six grandchildren, Leslie R. Bottomly of Ga., Tommy Robinson of Fla., Christopher Robinson of Fla., Tiffany Lee Burton, Jenna Miles Burton, and Samuel Miles Burton, all of Richmond. Also surviving are two brothers, Willard W. Burton and John H. (Jack) Burton; along with three nieces and two nephews. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School and was on active duty stateside in WWII. He was president of Richmond Builders Supply Corp. He was a member of West Richmond Business Men's Corporation, served as president of the Richmond Board of Volunteers of America, served two years as president of the Christian Fellowship Class at Reveille United Methodist Church. He was a member of Metropolitan Lodge #11 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Acca Temple Shrine A.A.O.M.S. and a former member of the Greeters Unit. A memorial service will be held at Reveille United Methodist Church on November 1 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Reveille United Methodist Church memorial fund or your favorite charity.

Nellie J. Carlton, age 92, of Richmond, died Friday, October 29, 1999. She was the widow of William S. Miles Sr. and Roland T. Carlton, and is survived by her son, William S. Miles Jr.; three stepchildren, Marian C. Skinner, Virginia C. Chapman, and Marjorie C. Goode; two sisters, Josephine Burkett and Ellen Wilcox of Massachusetts; three brothers, Wirt A., Stuart M., and Vernon a. Jones. Mrs. Carlton was a long-time member of Aldersgates United Methodist Church. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S.
