CHARLIE S. COCHRAN
Charlie Sherman "Chuck" Cochran, age 79, of Meadows of Dan, died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born in Patrick County on November 24, 1934, and was the son of the late Joseph
Green Cochran and Retta Mae West Cochran.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Gregory David Cochran, a brother, Melvin Artis Cochran, two sisters, Sylvia Lea Cochran Canada and Theral Jean Cochran Stanley.
He was a member of Meadows of Dan Baptist Church.
He was a graduate of the University of Michigan with a B.S. degree in naval architecture and marine engineering, and retired from the Newport News Shipyard in 1997.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Shelby Jean Clifton Cochran of the home, one son, Jeffery Steven Cochran and wife Kathleen of Alpharetta, Ga., two grandsons, Tyler Jon Cochran and Brian Lee Cochran, one granddaughter, Sarah Jean Cochran, all of Alpharetta, one sister, Shirley Molinda Cochran Freeman of Knoxville Tenn., one brother, Arnold Joseph Cochran and wife Mimi of Cape Coral, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Elaine Bailey Cochran of Portsmouth, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church with Pastors Shawn
Carter and Michael Shockley officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

LAWRENCE E. DENT
Lawrence Edward Dent, age 90, of Tavares, Fla., passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014.
He was born June 20, 1924 in Spray, N.C., and moved to Lake County, FL. in 1987 from Orlando, FL.
He honorably served in the Army in World War II and upon completion of his service gained employment as a used car salesman.
He subsequently worked for the United States Postal Service from which he retired in 1989.
The company of good books, friends and family allowed him to enjoy the success of 25 years of retirement.
He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Delcie Barkdoll Dent, earlier this year.
Survivors include his children Daniel (Joanne Baust) Dent of San Antonio, Tex., and Debbie (Christopher) Catron of Bristow, Va., and his grandchildren; Mitch Catron, Jessica Dent, Zack Catron and Jason Dent.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Dewayne Troutt officiating.
BILLY R. JONES
Billy Ray Jones, 83, of Westfield, N.C., died Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born in Stokes County, N.C., on October 14, 1930 and was a son of the late Charlie and Ada Wilson Jones.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maude Edwards Jones; and a brother, Robert Jones.
He was retired from Bassett Furniture and was a member of Woodville Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Vickie Thomas of Westfield; one son, Rickie Ray
Jones of Ararat; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; special nieces that he raised as his own children, Faye Tate, Mary Goins, Nellie Kilby and Betty Goins; and one brother, Joe Bob
Jones of King, N.C.
Funeral services were held Friday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, N.C., with the Rev. Keith Love officiating.
Burial was in Woodville Baptist Church cemetery.

CHARLOTTE T. NELSON
Charlotte Turner Nelson, age 79, of Elkin, N.C., and formerly of Spencer, died Friday morning September 5, 2014 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.
She was born in Henry County on April 29, 1935 and was a daughter of the late R. Ernest Turner Sr. and the late Verda Hensley Turner, who lived in Spencer.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Nancy
Brown Turner; a sister-in-law, Violet Turner; and a brother, Robert Ernest Turner Jr.
She graduated from Spencer Penn High School in 1952 and attended Perry Business School.
She was employed at Centel Telephone Co. for 24 years and at Spencer Post Office for 30 years.
She was an active member of Old Well Christian Church where she became a member at the age of 12.
Surviving are her husband, Billy Jefferson Nelson Sr. of the home; one son, Bishop B.J. Nelson of Elkin; two grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; also survived by three nephews; and one niece; several great nieces and great nephews; two great-great nephews; and three great-great nieces.
A graveside service was conducted Monday morning in the cemetery of Old Well Christian Church in Spencer by the Rev. Ron Hennis.
Memorials may be made to the Old Well Christian Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Carol Ann Boundurant, 150 Grand Lake Dr., Ridgeway, VA 24148.

SHEILA N. REECE
Sheila Ann Nunn Reece, 55, of Kibler Valley Road, Ararat, died Sunday afternoon, September 7, 2014, at her home.
She was born January 31, 1959, in Surry County, N.C., to Elizabeth Jacqueline Sleight Nunn and the late Kermit Odell Nunn.
She is survived by one daughter, Morgan Jacqueline Nunn of Ararat; one granddaughter; her mother, Elizabeth Jacqueline Sleight Nunn of Ararat; and a brother, Dr. Michael Kermitt Nunn of Greenville, N.C.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at Church of Christ Cemetery at Dry Pond with the Rev. Fonda Younger officiating.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, N.C.
CHARLIE L. SHOUGH
Charlie Lee "Cotton" Shough, age 71, of Patrick Springs, died Sunday morning, September 7, 2014, at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart.
He was born in Patrick County on January 11, 1943 and was a son of the late Edwin H. Shough and Mildred Sands Shough.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Judy Holt; and a brother, Herman Shough.
He had been a truck driver and had retired from Burgess Trucking.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret "Margie" Spencer Shough of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Shelly Shough of Patrick Springs; one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Shough; one sister and brother-in-law, Ella Mae and Jimmy Martin of Ridgeway; and one brother and sister-in-law, Marvin Ray and Helen Shough of Patrick Springs.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Freeman officiating.
Burial was in the Providence United Methodist Church cemetery.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
