JOYANNE A. WOOD

Joyanne Agee Wood, age 79, of Wytheville, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Patrick County on December, 30, 1932, to the late Curtis Allen Agee and Beatrice Cruise Agee. In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Duke Willard Wood; a sister, Betty Agee Cruise; and a son-in-law, James Willard (Bill) Litchfield Jr.

She is survived by four children, Suzanne Wood-Litchfield Renegar and husband Ed, Gregory Steven Wood and wife Denise, Sheri Wood Martin and husband Randy, and Kevin Duke Wood and wife Susanna. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Brian and wife Morgan, Kelly and husband Kevin, Sarah and husband Scott, Ashley and husband Ron, Alex, Bethany, Ali, Grayson, Taylor, and Carson; and six great-grandchildren, Kara, Emily, Krista, Devonte, Joseph, and Sophia. Also surviving are three sisters, Eleanor Agee Gardner and husband Bob, Karen Agee Poteet, and Mary Agee Martin and husband Preston; two brothers, William (Bill) Allen Agee and wife Dula Belle, and Philip (Phil) Monroe Agee and wife Margo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joy's greatest pleasure in life was serving others. She loved helping the students and staff as the manager of the Wytheville Community College bookstore. She retired from WCC after more than 25 years of service and later worked there as the evening receptionist. In retirement she spent countless hours volunteering for her church, West End United Methodist, and also at Agape Food Pantry, Hospice of Southwest Virginia, Wytheville Lady Ruritans, American Red Cross Blood Bank, and many others. She was always eager to lend a hand and first to help others in need.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Wythe County Community Hospital and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care of our mother.

Two celebrations of Joy's life were held. On Friday, February 3, 2012, the family received friends at West End United Methodist Church in Wytheville, with a service following. On Saturday, February 4, 2012, the family received friends at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church, where a service and burial followed.

In tribute to Joy's loving and selfless spirit, the family requests donations be made to the Agape Food Pantry c/o Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Wytheville, or the building funds at either West End United Methodist Church or Meadows of Dan Baptist Church.

Joy loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart. She lived her life as a shining example of her Christian faith. Joy was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, caring "big sister," aunt, and faithful friend. She will be missed more than words can express.

Arrangements were by Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville.
