WILLIAM FREDERICK FREIDANK
WILLIAM FREDERICK FREIDANK, age 71 died Monday, July 4, 2011 at his home in Nokesville, Virginia.
Bill was born May 29, 1940 in Huntington, New York to the late William H. and Phyllis V. (Almond) Freidank. A 1962 graduate of St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vermont where he majored in biology and participated in the ROTC color guard. Upon graduation in 1967 from Fairleigh Dickerson Dental School in Teaneck, New Jersey, Bill received early commission as Captain in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Langley AFB, Newport News, Virginia. While in private practice in Old Town on Main Street, he taught at Georgetown Dental School from 1982 until its closing in 1990. Outgrowing his Main Street office, Bill and his son Christian moved to 9613 Champion Court where Dr. Chris still practices. Bill retired on National Doctor’s Day March 30, 2011 after serving the community for 44 years.
He is also preceded in death by one grandson, Christian Bryce Freidank.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Maureen Freidank; three children, Jennifer A. Irvin and husband Keith of Nokesville, Virginia, Christian W. Freidank and wife Paige of Nokesville, Virginia and Michael T. Freidank and wife Shelley of Norfolk, Virginia; five grandchildren, A. Teal Queen IV, Skylar Irvin, Seth Irvin, Autumn Freidank and Trysten Freidank; one sister, Bettina Bunt of Florida and one brother, Douglas Freidank and wife Barbara of Long Island, New York..
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 P.M. Friday, July 8, 2011 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, Virginia with Rev. Francis J. Peffley officiating. Interment will be private.

JAMES B. BRANCH SR.
James Bobby Branch Sr., 65, of Bassett, died Sunday, December 11, 2011, at his home.
Born in Stuart on July 19, 1946, he was a son of the late John Roy Branch and the late Bertha Foley Branch. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ayleese McMillan; and two brothers, Glenwood Branch and Howard Branch.
He worked at Pillowtex in the dryer operation, and was a volunteer fireman for Company 12 for over 30 years.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Brenda Faye Branch of the home; three sons, James Branch Jr. of Bassett, Steve Branch of Fieldale and Giles Branch of Martinsville; four grandchildren; one brother, Richard Branch of Bassett; three sisters, Sherlene Stoneman of Bassett, Louise Reynolds of Ridgeway and Barbara Lawson of Stuart.
Graveside services were conducted Friday at the Hardy family cemetery by the Rev. Cliff Collier.
Pallbearers were Cecil Branch, Dennis Branch, Sid Collins, Brandon Knoell, Calvin Martin and Greg Wike.
Arrangements were by Bassett Funeral Service in Bassett.
DOUGLAS W. CONNER
Douglas Wayne Conner, age 50, of Stuart, died Sunday, December 18, 2011.
He was born in Martinsville on April 20, 1961, and was preceded in death by his father, Donald Gray Conner.
He had worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation and was a very hard worker. He was a good mechanic and was always working on something.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Overby Conner; one son, Nathan Douglas Conner and fiancé Samantha Kendrick, both of Stuart; his mother, Oneda Belcher Conner of Woolwine; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Beverly Conner of Stuart; one sister, Wanda Scearce of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Edward Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in the Conner's View Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

CLARA J. FLIPPIN
Clara Joyce Flippin, age 86, of Stuart, died Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Stokes County, N.C., on August 17, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Flippin; her parents, Charlie Joyce and Linnie Hill Joyce Mills; and a brother, Rev. Weldon Joyce.
She was a longtime member at Stateline Primitive Baptist Church, and had been a nurse at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are three sons, Walter L. Flippin and wife Shirley of Spencer; Keith D. Flippin and wife Brenda of Winston-Salem, and Timothy A. Flippin of London, England; four grandchildren, Scott Flippin, Joy Watson, Becky Burriss and Michael Flippin; and eight great-grandchildren, Holly, Adam, Meredith, Delaney, Michael Jr., Tanner, Ezekiel and Jedidiah; and special friends, Dewey Moss of Dry Pond and Dave Montgomery of London.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Stateline Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Milton Gunter and Scotty Marshall officiating. Burial was in the Stateline Cemetery.

BENNY R. HOLT
Benny Ray Holt, age 59, of Stuart, died Thursday, December 15, 2011, at his home.
He was born in Patrick County on October 22, 1952 and was a son of the late Harvey Lester Holt and Rachel Virginia Lawson Holt.
Surviving are four sisters, Mildred Collins of Stuart, Ann Holt and Barbara Brown, both of Claudville, and Audrey Pendleton of Stuart; eight brothers, Jack Holt of Claudville, Claude Holt of Ararat, James Holt of Westfield, N.C., Henry Holt of Stuart, William Holt of Ararat, Leonard Holt and Roger Holt, both of Stuart and Randy Holt of Mount Airy, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Tommy Nichols officiating. Burial was in the Holt family cemetery.

ROBERT M. KNIGHTON
Robert "Bob" McGregor Knighton, 59, of Martinsville, died Thursday, December 15, 2011, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Salem.
He was born in Martinsville and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lyell A. Knighton
He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1970, attended Patrick Henry Community College and was drafted into military service in 1972. He was stationed in Wertheim, Germany, with the 71st Assault Helicopter Company. He received an honorable discharge in 1974.
Knighton returned to Martinsville and worked in retail and industrial sales, retiring from Bi-State Coil Winding Inc. in 2009. He had lived in Oak Island, N.C., for the last two years.
Surviving are one sister, Susan K. Ramsey of Oviedo, Fla.; two brothers, Charles R. Knighton of Martinsville and James D. Knighton of Ridgeway; three daughters, Clark Knighton Seipt of Centreville, Mary McGregor Knighton of Woolwine and Allison C. Knighton of Falls Church; and one grandchild.
A memorial service and celebration was held Sunday at Wild Magnolia restaurant in Martinsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at VAMC in Salem.

ZORA P. STONEMAN
Zora Phylena Stoneman, 84, of Patrick Springs, died Monday, December 12, 2011, at the home of her daughter.
She was born in Fancy Gap and was a daughter of the late Willie King and Fannie Mae Snow King. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Stoneman; two sisters, Gertrude "Gertie" Ackers and Mildred King; a brother, Roby King; a great grandchild; and a nephew.
She retired from Tultex after more than 30 years of service, and she was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are three daughters, Vickie Wasoski of Sanville, Judy Robertson of Patrick Springs and Deborah Roberts of Moseley; two sons, Don Stoneman of Ridgeway and Chris Stoneman of Patrick Springs; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at Collins Funeral Home Chapel in Bassett with Kelly Ratcliff officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Nicke and Kevin Wasoski, Derik Stoneman, Jimmy Taylor, Barry Peters, Ray Ferguson and Donnie Robertson Jr.

IRVIN DONALD "PETE" WARD
Irvin Donald (Pete) Ward, 72, passed away on December 18, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center as it was his time for his body to be at peace. Pete as he was known by was born March 27, 1939 in Surry County to the late Irvin Dewy (ID) Ward and Nina Cook Ward and was a retired building contractor. Memorial Services will be held at Moody's Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Thursday December 22 at 11:00am with the Rev. Burford Jessup officiating. In addition to his parents Mr. Ward was preceded in death by two brothers; James Russell Ward and Marshall D. Ward; two sisters Jewel Robinson and Shelby Jones. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years; Julia Ann Collins Ward; two daughters, Tammy Moore (Scott), Westfield, NC; Lisa Walker (Rick) Mount Airy; grandchildren, Madison and Lana Moore, Lee and Avery Pike and Jermey Walker; three sisters, Melbena Gold (Andy), Ruth Brown, Williamstown, NJ; Mary Vernell Musten, Kernersville, NC. The family would like to thank the staff of Foryth Medical Center ICU 2 Unit for their diligence, care and compassion as well as Cindy and Joanie of the Acute Palliatibe Unit for the compassion given to our family. BONNIE B. EARLES
Bonnie Lou Blankenship Earles, age 54, of Stuart, died Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Patrick County on February 26, 1957. She was preceded in death by her grandparents who raised her, Kiley and Dovie Deal.
She was a member of Fairview Pentecostal Holiness Church, and had been a call representative at Results. She was a devoted mom and loving wife who loved knitting, fishing, boat riding and watching Phillip work on the farm. She loved everybody, had a big heart for her fellow man, and could make anyone laugh.
Surviving are her husband of 17 years, Phillip Swanson Earles of the home; her children, Lucian Hutchens, Jenny Handy, Mike Blevins, Liza Hiatt, Coty Blevins; and an adopted daughter, Sheila Blankenship, all of Stuart; ten grandchildren; her mother, Julia Blevins of Stuart; and an uncle who helped raise her, Robert Deal of Stuart.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Allen Dawson officiating. Burial will be private and held at Kileras Farm.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.

DEBORAH S. GAMMONS
Deborah Sue "Debbie" Gammons, age 54, of Stuart, died Saturday, January 14, 2012, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart.
She was born on September 20, 1957 in Forsyth County, N.C., and was a daughter of Nancy McCollum McCreary and the late Coy Lee Barneycastle Jr. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Van Barneycastle.
She worked as a sewer in the textile industry for many years and was of the Baptist faith. She also was a Tupperware dealer.
Surviving are her husband, Kennith Gammons of the home; her mother and stepfather, Nancy and Henry McCreary of Pinnacle, N.C.; two sons, Jayson Gammons of Stuart and Scott Gammons of Pinnacle; three daughters, Misty
Smith of Decatur, Ga., and Tori
Smith and Abi Smith, both of the home; one sister, Darlene Cromer of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Shoals Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Martin officiating. Burial was in the Red Bank cemetery in Claudville.

WILLIAM C. JENKINS
William Clarence Jenkins, age 81, of Ararat, died Monday, January 16, 2012, at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy, N.C.
He was born in Patrick County on April 15, 1930 and was a son of the late Dora Marshall Jenkins and Hobert Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Thorold, and a half brother, Shelby Marshall.
He was a loving husband and father and was a member of Doe Run Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Josephine Hiatt Jenkins of the home; sons, Mike Jenkins and Jerry Jenkins, both of Ararat; one sister, Barbara Hook of Jerome, Mich.; one brother, Victor Jenkins of Leslie, Mich; and a half brother, Harvey Sawyers of Mount Airy.
Funeral services will be held at 2 today (Wednesday) at Doe Run Baptist Church by the Rev. Terry Vaughn. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Jenkins will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
