MINNIE S. CASSADY

Minnie Agnes Smith Cassady, age 93, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Thursday, December 8, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.

She was born November 14, 1918 in Patrick County and was a daughter the late Melvin and Lula Lovill Smith. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandchild, a sister and two brothers.

She was a farmer and homemaker.

Surviving are three daughters, Frances Sue Cassady Cooke of White Plains, N.C., and Fathe Jane Cassady Cook and Shelby Jean Cassady, both of Mount Airy; two sons, Daniel Cassady of the home and Donald Cassady of Mount Airy; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lela Young of Mount Airy and Mabel Tate of High Point, N.C.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy by Hospice Chaplain Sharon Snow. Entombment was in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

NANCY EANES

Nancy "Dee" Eanes, 42, of Martinsville, died Thursday, December 8, 2011, at her home.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carlton E. Eanes Sr.; and three grandparents, Larry Ashby, Woodrow Eanes and Laura Eanes.

She graduated from Patrick County High School in 1988.

Surviving are her mother, Carolyn A. Eanes; one son, Colton Lane Johnson; one sister, Martha Matherly; one brother, Carlton E. Eanes Jr.; her grandmother, Arcille Ashby; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Beckham United Methodist Church by the Rev. Anne Sisson. Burial will be in the Eanes family cemetery.

Memorials may be made to an education fund being set up for her son or to the building fund at Beckham United Methodist Church, c/o 250 Turner Ashby Road, Martinsville, Va. 24112.

Arrangements are by Bassett Funeral Service.

GEORGIE H. HYLTON

Georgie Leonice Elizabeth Hylton, 87, formerly of Stuart, died December 1, 2011, in Cleveland, Oh.

She was born August 17, 1924, to James B. Hylton and Carrie Madge Hylton. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jessie B. Hylton Jr.; three brothers, John Hylton, James Burbie Hylton and David Bill Hylton; and a sister, Bessie Harris.

Surviving are one son, William Harris of San Antonio, Tex.; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Thursday in Cleveland.

Arrangements were by H.M. Martin Funeral Home in Cleveland.

PEGGY H. HYLTON

Peggy H. Hylton, age 75, of Meadows of Dan, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C., surrounded by her three daughters.

She was born in Floyd County on March 8, 1936 to the late Albert and Amy Willis Hylton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walker W. Hylton; a grandson, Casey Alderman; two brothers, Coy Martin Hylton and John N. Hylton; and two sisters, Minnie Ruth Belcher and Elizabeth Worley.

She was a longtime member of Green Mountain Baptist Church, was a loving mother, and a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are three daughters, Darlene Ayers of Ridgeway, Doretta Willard of Meadows of Dan and Nancy Puckett of Laurel Fork; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and three stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Frank J. Hylton of Martinsville; and one sister, Janet Edwards of Martinsville.

Funeral services were held Friday at Green Mountain Baptist Church with Pastors Nathan Montgomery and Dale Belcher officiating. Burial was in the Hylton family cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joshua Puckett, Kevin Puckett, Rocky Alderman, Daniel Willard, Tommy Willard and Coy Ayers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 22099 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Stuart, Va. 24171.

Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

RUTH C. HYLTON

Ruth Cruise Hylton, age 81, of Stuart, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart.

She was born in Patrick County on July 14, 1930 to the late Robert and Sallie Turner Cruise. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Ray Hylton; a granddaughter, Tana Self; two sisters, Mary Pendleton and Emma Helms; and three brothers, Jessie Cruise, James Cruise and Hoy Cruise.

She was a longtime member of the Apostolic Christian Church, and was a mother of the church. She had been a certified nursing assistant at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital (now Pioneer Community Hospital).

Surviving are five daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Elmer DeHart of Stuart, Rosalie and Byrle Terry of Meadows of Dan, and Connie and Mike Wallace, Debbie and Mike Willard, Judy and Tim Pack, all of Stuart; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Cliff Hylton of Stuart and Clarence and Christie Hylton of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, Chris Hazelwood and wife Geri, Brad Hazelwood and wife Erica, Kimberly Hylton, Nicole Hylton, Shanna Wallace, Megan Willard, Joshua Willard and Jennifer King and husband Doug; eight great-grandchildren, Trevor and Maddie Hazelwood, Gavin, Ella and Colton Hazelwood and Chloe, Savannah and Bella Wright; two brothers, her twin, Alfred Cruise of Bassett, and Elmer Cruise of Grapeland, Tex.; and two sisters, Clemmie Martin of Woolwine and Josie Belcher of Laurel Fork.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Ronald Turner officiating. Burial was in Jack's Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mike Wallace, Mike Hylton, Gary Hylton, Josh Willard, Chris Hazelwood and Brad Hazelwood.

Memorials may be made to Smith River Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 122, Woolwine, Va. 24185.

CHRIS A. INGE

Chris A. Inge, 82, of Riverside Dr., Danville, died Friday, December 9, 2012, at Blue Ridge Nursing Home in Stuart.

Arrangements are by Norris Funeral Home in Stuart.

GLENN E. NESTER

Glenn Edward Nester, age 78, of Woolwine, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Pioneer Community Hospital.

He was born in Carroll County on November 23, 1933 to the late Orby G. and Mattie Jane Dalton Nester. He was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Nester, and a sister, Lovelene Nester.

Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Ninner DeHart Nester of the home; one daughter, Linda McMillan and husband Joe of Bassett; one stepson, Robert D. Whitlow and wife Hope of Woolwine; one stepdaughter, Cheri W. Davis and husband Robert L. of Floyd; one grandson, Michael Derek McMillan; one stepgranddaughter, Melissa Salyer and husband Shannon; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Sharla and Blake Salyer; and two beloved dogs, Buffy and Brandy.

A funeral service was held Friday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Danny Gilley officiating. Burial was in the DeHart Cemetery in Woolwine.

Pallbearers were Joe McMillian, Robert Whitlow, Billy DeHart, T. Barbour, Red McPeak, Robert Davis, Michael Nelson, Jay Foley and Wilbur Cockram.

JAMES H. OLIVER

James Henry "Mack" Oliver, age 59, of Stuart, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Pioneer Community Hospital.

He was born in Henry County on September 23, 1952. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard L. Oliver; and a brother, Billy L. Oliver.

Surviving are his wife, Theresa Rorrer Oliver of the home; one son, Heath Hawks of South Carolina; one grandson; his mother, Mary Gilley Oliver of Ridgeway; and a brother, Lewis L. Oliver.

A memorial service was held Friday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the JEB Stuart Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 340, Patrick Springs, VA 24133.

LEWIS H. PEYTON SR.

Lewis Howard Peyton Sr., age 86 of Haymarket, died Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Sudley Manor House, Manassas.

He was born September 3, 1925 in Loudoun County, son of the late Adolfus and Josephine Glasscock Peyton. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher B. Smith.

He attended Little River Baptist Church in Aldie and was a retired dairy farmer.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Isabel L. Peyton; four children, Lucy P. Snider and husband Woody, Lewis H. "Buddy" Peyton Jr. and wife Imener of Stuart, Darlene P. Franklin and husband Steve of Fredericksburg, and Tommy H. Peyton of Richmond; one sister, Jane Irvin of Manassas; two grandchildren, Mark Snider of Chesterfield and Kaitlyn Smith of Fredericksburg; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Snider and Morgan Snider.

The family will receive friends an hour before the service today (Wednesday) at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, where a memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Dan Hough officiating. Interment will be private.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Patrick County Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 1301, Stuart, Va. 24171 in memory of Lewis H. Peyton Sr.

JIMMY D. ROSE

Jimmy Darrell Rose, 50, of Oak Hill Lane, Critz, died Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

He was born May 4, 1961, in Wythe County and was a son of the late Joe and Daisy Alley Rose.

He had served in the U.S. Army and worked at Stanley Furniture Co. for more than 20 years before becoming disabled.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Rose of Stuart; two daughters, Victoria Walker of Bassett and April Rose of Radford; one brother, Jack Rose of Richmond; and two sisters, Joann Fain of Bassett and Doris Bowman of Martinsville.

Services will be private at Henry Memorial Park in Bassett.

Arrangements are by Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home in Martinsville.

C. CALVIN SHOCKLEY

Charles Calvin Shockley, 76, of South Mayo Drive, Stuart, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011, in the presence of his family.

He was born on June 29, 1935 in Danville to the late Charlie Shockley and Elva Ayers Shockley.

He was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church in Lawsonville, N.C., where he served as a deacon, trustee and taught Sunday school for several years. He was also a member of the Gideon's International of Patrick County, served in the National Guard and was a retired teacher and principal in the Patrick County School System.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Magdalene Kirby Shockley of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Dan Epperson of Chapin, S.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Beth Shockley of Stuart; four grandchildren, Ashley and Lauren Epperson of Chapin and Kirby and Jonah Shockley of Stuart; a special aunt, Jessie Mae Vernon (Aunt Amy) and several cousins, family and friends.

The funeral service was held Friday at Peters Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Ragsdale officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Guy Shockley, Jimmy Shockley, Walter Ayers, Donald Vernon, Rex Hail, Marion Cobbler, Keith Arnder and Eric Sheppard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon's International, P.O. Box 921, Stuart, VA 24171; or to the Missions of Peters Creek Baptist Church, 6561 NC Hwy. North, Lawsonville, NC 27022.

Arrangements were by Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory of Stuart.
