BELVA G. DALTON
Belva Goad Dalton, age 90, of Meadows of Dan, died Tuesday July 27, 2010.
She was the daughter of the late Charles and Josie Moles Goad. She was also preceded in death by her husband,
Foster E. Dalton; a daughter, Lynda Marie Dalton; a brother, Harry Goad; and two sons-in-law, Garland L. Hopkins and R. Calvin Smith.
She was retired from J.P. Stevens Co. with 17 years of service, and was a member of Parkway Church of the Brethren. She made many teddy bears from recycled mink coats, giving her the name of "The Bear Lady".
Surviving are one son, Arlie E. Dalton of Willis; three daughters, Lois D.
Smith of Roanoke, Essie D. Handy of Ridgeway, and Lorene Hopkins-Pequignot of Fieldale; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson; one sister, Edith Wade of Floyd; and one sister-in-law; and several stepgrandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Revs. Danny Gilley and Coan Agee officiating. Burial was in the Goad cemetery in Meadows of Dan.
Pallbearers were Jeff Dalton, Chris Hopkins, Richard Perdue, Perry Price, Steve Reece and Scott Reece.

MARY T. DALTON
Mary Alice Tucker Dalton, age 67, of Stuart, died Sunday, August 1, 2010, at her home.
She was born on December 12, 1942 in Stokes County, N.C., to the late Rex Eual Tucker and Josephine Elizabeth Nelson Tucker.
She was a homemaker, and a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband, Donald Allen Dalton of the home; one daughter, Donna Dalton of Stuart; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Susan Dalton of Stuart and Mark and Angela Dalton of Bassett; and five granddaughters, Mandy Hamm, Mindy Hamm, Meghan Dalton, Kaitlyn Dalton, and Sarah Dalton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Revs. Bernard Handy and Jim Churchwell officiating. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens.

DOROTHY R. MABE
Dorothy "Granny Dot" Rogers Mabe, 76, of Lawsonville, N.C., died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.
She was born on October 23, 1933, and was a daughter of the late Edgar and Fannie Lankford Rogers, one of 14 siblings. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Curtis L. Mabe.
She was a homemaker and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Surviving are her sons, L.C. Mabe Jr. of Sandy Ridge, N.C., O'Keefe Mabe of Stuart, Eddie O. Mabe of Lawsonville; her grandchildren and many other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
A graveside service was held Monday at Snow Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lawsonville.

PATTY S. MARSHALL
Patty Sawyers Marshall, age 69, of Ararat, died at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C., on Saturday, July 31, 2010.
She was born in Patrick County on November 19, 1940, and was a daughter of the late Samuel Everette and Mattie Sawyers Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Virgil V. "Buck" Marshall.
She retired from Sara Lee and was a member of Doe Run Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Ronald Moser of Jonesville, N.C; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis and Opie Marshall of Ararat and Dwayne Marshall of the home; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one stepbrother and sister-in-law, Everette and Vicey
Smith of Gladesboro.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Doe Run Baptist Church by the Revs. Terry Vaughan and Sammy Lawson. Burial was in the church cemetery.

VIRGINIA M. WILLARD
Virgie Dorothy Mae Marion Willard, age 95, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Surry County, N.C., on July 8, 1915 and was a daughter of the late John William and Emma Victoria
Jones Marion. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Troy Franklin Willard; two sisters, Annie Gay VonCannon and Esther Johnson; and a brother, John Lee Marion.
She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda Faye and Ronnie Collins of High Point, N.C., and Sharon and Les Perdue of Ararat; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randell and Helen Willard of Staunton and Gary and Gail Willard of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Kim Fulmer, Lisa Jones, Kevin Willard, Justin Willard, Scott Willard, Courtney Carrion, Shannon Wilson and Danny Perdue; one stepgrandson, Benjamin Stone; nine great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Wendell and Carol Marion of Apple Valley, Calif., and Melvin and Denise Marion of Provo, Ut.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the LDS church by Bishop David Hiatt. Burial was in the James Monroe Hiatt Memorial Cemetery.

PEGGY K. BELCHER
Peggy Keith Belcher, 76, of Ridgeway, died Saturday, September 4, 2010.
Born in Floyd County on May 25, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Una Ray Keith and Ethel Boyd Keith and the wife of the late Lester Lloyd Belcher. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Chlora Bowyer; and by five brothers, Oliver Keith, Charlie Keith, Delmar Keith, McCoy Keith and Shirley Keith.
She was a member of Slate Mountain Presbyterian Church and had been a self-employed beautician for many years, and later was employed by Regis Salon in Liberty Fair Mall in Martinsville.
Surviving are one daughter, Lowanna B. Hance of Ridgeway; one son, Allan Belcher of Forest; one sister, Iris Boyd of Meadows of Dan; and three brothers, Wayne Keith of Stuart, Larry Keith of Vesta and Gene Keith of Ararat; and three grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Tuesday at the Martinsville Chapel of Norris Funeral Services and Crematory by Dr. David Adkins. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.

E. BERNARD BOWLES
E. Bernard Bowles, age 90, of Bassett, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem.
He was born on November 12, 1919 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Charles William Bowles and Carrie Lou Spencer Bowles. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Nellie Bowles, Bessie Via and Bertha Washburn; and six brothers, Sell, Kell, Everett, Claude, Lannie, and Layman Bowles.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a military policeman, and had worked at Fieldcrest Mills.
Surviving are two daughters, Gail Britt of Smithfield and Debra Perdue of Patrick Springs; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Rick Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Bowles family cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans' Memorial Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Roy Bowles, Berkley Bowles, Ronnie Bowles, John Paul Thomas, Randolph Stone and Ralph Stone.
LESTER COLLINS
Lester Collins Sr., 88, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Wednesday morning, September 1, 2010, at his home.
He was born May 2, 1922 in Patrick County and was a son of the late John Walter and Frances Hall Collins. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalie Olson Collins; his second wife, Eva Mae McCreary Hooker Collins; two sisters, Lettie Nester and Maybelle Marshall; and a brother, Bernie Collins.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He worked as a carpenter and brick mason for many years at Samet Construction Company and later retired from John Tesh Construction Company.
Surviving are two daughters, Leslie Brett of Greenbackville, and Dara Parsons of Mount Airy; two sons, Terry Lee Collins of the home and Lester Collins Jr. of Mount Airy; two stepdaughters, Hazel Hodges and Brenda Cecil, both of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-stepgrandchildren; one sister, Velva Collins of Ararat; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Friday at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Bob Josey officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

B. WAYNE CRAIG
Billy Wayne Craig, age 58, of Patrick Springs, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at his home.
He was born in Patrick County on March 18, 1952, and had been a fixer at Narrowflex.
Craig was a lifetime member of the Virginia Jaycees, having served as past president, and of the Patrick County Jaycees, was one of the founders of the Stuart Beach Music Festival. He was a former Democratic Party chairman, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Patrick County.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon Puckett Craig of Stuart; one daughter and son-in-law, Brianne and Leonard Bartone of Greensboro, N.C.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bryan Nowlin of Collinsville and Marty and Lisa Nowlin of Stuart; five grandchildren, Kayla, Carlyn, Camden, Lindsey and Sydney Nowlin; his parents, Lester and Lucille Rakes Craig of Stuart; and two brothers, Lester Craig Jr. of Salem and Mike Craig of Stuart.
A memorial service was held Saturday. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Jerry Goodman and the Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating. Burial was private.

RICHARD W. GILLEY
Richard William Gilley, 62, of 105 Landmark Drive, Stuart, died Sunday, September 5, 2010, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart.
He was born in Patrick County on February 11, 1948, and was a son of the late Pat Richard Gilley and Callie Deal Gilley. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Mae Cox, and three brothers, Henry Gilley, Roy Gilley and Coy Gilley.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Gilley Jr. and Aaron Gilley; one sister, Ruby G. Witt of Patrick Springs; and two brothers, Curtis Gilley of Bassett and Walter Gilley of Stuart.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at the Gilley family cemetery in Stuart.
SILAS A. HALL
Silas Asa Hall, age 93, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Thursday, September 2, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.
He was born in Patrick County on June 20, 1917 to the late Judie Elizabeth Hall. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Elizabeth Mungo Hall; two sisters, Roxie Scott and Emma Lee Gwynn; and seven brothers, Thamon Hall, Romey Hall, Mack Hall, Samson Hall, Simon Hall, Saford Hall and Clayton Hall.
He served more than 20 years in the U.S. Army, was injured on Christmas Day in 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge and for that he received a Purple Heart. He was a member and Sunday school teacher for many years of the First Baptist Church in Mount Airy and First Baptist Church in East Point, Ga.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Robertson Hall of the home; one daughter, Susan Kay McWatters of Fayetteville, Ga., and Melba Hall Eason of Liberty, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Mary Louise Turner of Bassett; one son, Charles Henry Hall of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and five stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at First Baptist Church in Mount Airy by Dr. Roger Gilbert. Burial was in the Montgomery-Hall family cemetery with full military rites by VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain, N.C.
