Marietta Hall Cephas, 84, widow of James B. Cephas, departed this life peacefully in Richmond on Friday, August 10, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gladys Hall of Chicago, Ill.; and her great-granddaughter, Ariana Marie Anderson. Mrs. Cephas was retired from the Music Department of Virginia State University where she taught piano for over four decades. Cherishing her memory are her daughters, Judith C. She was born June 30, 1930 in Whiteville, N.C. to James Thomas and Gladys Blake Danford. She was preceded in death last year by her husband, P. Mack Joyce Jr. Surviving are three children, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one brother. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 12, 2001 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Slate Funeral Home in King, N.C. A visitation and graveside service will be scheduled later this week in Biloxi, Mississippi, with Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Biloxi in charge of services.
