Marietta Hall Cephas, 84, widow of James B. Cephas, departed this life peacefully in Richmond on Friday, August 10, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gladys Hall of Chicago, Ill.; and her great-granddaughter, Ariana Marie Anderson. Mrs. Cephas was retired from the Music Department of Virginia State University where she taught piano for over four decades. Cherishing her memory are her daughters, Judith C. Anderson of Richmond, and Jacqueline C. Threadgill of Washington, D.C.; two grandsons, Ralph "Chip" Anderson and his wife, Margaux of Midlothian, and Steven L. Robert P. Gioia, 88, of Richmond, formerly of New Jersey, died August 10, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Cecilia T. Gioia; two daughters, Sandra G. Treadway and her husband, John and Jeanette R. Gioia and her husband, H. Daniel Bonamico; three grandchildren, Robyn G. Treadway, Caroline G. and Alixandra L. Bonamico. Mr. Gioia was Chairman of the Board of Serra International, Inc., an international forwarding company that he joined in 1931 and expanded over 58 years. Mack Joyce Jr. Surviving are three children, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one brother.
