HUNTER RICHARDSON
Hunter Davis Richardson, 23, passed away unexpectedly November 27, 2009. Born April 27, 1986 he was the son of Ira J. and Dana L. Richardson of Suffolk, paternal grandson of the late Ira J. and Charlotte F. Richardson, maternal grandson of Charles and Jacquelyn Leonard of Norfolk.
In addition to his parents and maternal grandparents, Hunter is survived by his beloved dog, Maggie, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Hunter graduated from Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in 2004, where he played football and basketball.
He was Offensive Player of the Year in 2003 as well as All Conference and First Team All State, Division 2 in 2003.
He was a graduate of Virginia Tech in 2008, with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Applied Economics.
He was employed by Skiff’s Creek Towing of Hampton.
Hunter was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting, fishing, surfing, and living life to the fullest.
He never met a stranger.
Although he had a strong sense of humor, and a keen wit, he will always be remembered as a kind man with an old soul and a big heart.

MARGARET A. MORRIS
Margaret A. Morris, 80, died December 2, 2009, at Sentara Obici Hospital.
Born in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Anton and Margaret H. Nimmerrichter.
Mrs. Morris was a member of St. Mary’s of the Presentation Catholic Church and was a retired secretary with the Office of Education in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include her husband of fifty nine years, Philip M. Morris; daughter, Susan Morris of Seattle, WA; sons, Edward Morris of Media, PA, Ronald Morris of Chino Hills, CA and John Morris of Thousands Oaks, CA.
A private funeral service was held at R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory with burial in Albert G. Horton, Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
FRANCES (DEDE) JOHNSON
Frances (Dede) Rhodes Hutter Johnson, 65, died February 20 at the home of her daughter and care giver, Jennifer Blythe, in Driver (Suffolk), Va. She was born on May 6. 1945 to Jim and Polly Hutter.
She was predeceased by her husband Ron of Franklin, OH and her parents. Left to cherish her memory, are daughter Jennifer, her husband Rob, and grandsons Kyle and Justin, and sons Ronnie
Johnson and Jamie Johnson; granddaughters Lauren and Emma Johnson; brother Jimmy and his wife Judy of Williamsburg: and sisters, Laura and her husband Melvin of Lancaster, PA, and Mary and her husband Ralph of Houston, TX.
She will also be missed by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Born in Atlanta, GA, Dede moved to Lynchburg as a young girl.
She graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg and Stratford College in Danville.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lynchburg before moving to Virginia Beach as a young adult.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated, followed by a private Memorial Service at “The Beach”.
J. RUDOLPH CARTER
James Rudolph Carter, 80, went to be with the lord February 22, 2011.
He was born in Nansemond County to the late Grace and James M. Carter.
He was predeceased by his brother Randy L. Carter.
Rudolph was retired from the Ford Motor Company and from the Suffolk City Schools.
He was a member of Trinity Christian Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the TPA Association.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy R. Carter; son, Wayne
Carter and wife Rose of Southern Shores, NC; grandchildren, Jon
Carter and wife Nikki of Waipahu, HI, and Heather C. and husband Dustin Daniels of Southern Shores, NC; great grand daughter, Breeze N. Daniels; a great grand son on the way; several nieces and nephews with one special niece, Cindy Luter; and sister-in-law, Nancy Carter.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington Street, Suffolk by the Rev. Byron McCreary, Rev. Dustin Daniels, Rev. Dolan Talbert, and Rev. Bert Pearce with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, February 25, 2011 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

VERLIE E. ASKEW
Verlie Edith Askew, 62, went to be with the lord February 23, 2011 at her home in Monroe, NC.
She is the daughter of the late Lillie and William Butler.
She is survived by her husband Donnie Askew of Monroe, NC.
A graveside funeral service will be Friday, February 25, 2011 at 2 PM in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens by Pastor Denis L. Hughes.
AL SAUNDERS
Turpin A. “Al” Saunders, Jr., 87, passed into glory peacefully at his home, Feb. 20, 2011.
He was born on Everetts Road, June 12, 1923.
He was the son of the late Turpin A. and Nannie Whitley Saunders.
He was the widower of Georgia C. Saunders.
He graduated from Chuckatuck High School in 1941, completed the machinist apprenticeship in the Norfolk Navy Yard, and during World War II served in the Maritime Service on Liberty Ships as an Assistant Engineer.
He was a life long member of Oakland Christian Church where he served as a deacon, former superintendent of the Sunday School, and on many building committees.
He was a partner at Saunders Supply Company for 64 years.
He was past president of the Chuckatuck Ruitan Club with perfect attendance for 62 years.
He was a charter member of the Chuckatuck Fire Department and served as Chief of the Department from 1955-1963.
He was one of the organizers of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in 1965 and served on the board for many years.
He was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Richard Bennett Trust for forty-three years.
He delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.
In 1996, he and his wife, Georgia, were honored as Suffolk’s First Citizens.
He is survived by his children, Mary
Williams (Jesse), Ann Saunders, Paul Saunders (Pam), Douglas Saunders, all of Suffolk, and Kathy Whitten (Fred) of Richmond; his siblings, Nancy Neese and Dorothy Hackney of Richmond and Scott Saunders of Isle of Wight; his grandchildren Jess Williams, Brooke Anderson (Reeves), James Saunders (Lisa), Geoffrey Whitten, Katie Doh (Yoony), and Jay Whitten; great-grandson Cord Anderson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakland Christian Church in Chuckatuck.
The family will receive visitors at his home Friday, February 25, 2011.

JOHN F. PERRY
John Frederick Perry, 69, went to be with the lord February 25, 2011. He was born in Nansemond County to the late Mary Estelle and Zachariah Perry. He was predeceased by his brother Jerry Milton Perry.
John was a life long member of Liberty Spring Christian Church and was a truck driver for Perry Lumber Co.
He is survived by his son Jeffrey A Perry and wife Mary Denise of Sunbury, NC; sister Brenda Kay Davis of Suffolk; brother George Earl Perry of Chesapeake; two grand children Jeffrey Scott Perry and Lena Mariah Perry; many nieces and nephews in Richmond, Suffolk, and Northeastern NC.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Liberty Spring Christian Church, 4213 Whaleyville Blvd. by the Rev Allen Lancaster with burial in the church cemetery.

SHIRLEY ANN BABB
Shirley Ann Babb, 73, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went to be with the Lord February 28, 2011 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. She was the daughter of the late George
Smith and Anne Boone, and the widow of Clarence Lee Babb, Sr. Shirley was a long time member of Wilroy Baptist Church, and worked as a Pharmacy Associate for Rx 4 Less.
Survivors include her sons, Clarence L. Babb, Jr. and wife, Judy, of Raleigh, NC, Wayne Babb and wife, Susan, of Suffolk; daughter, Teresa Roberson and husband, John, of Suffolk; grandchildren, April L. Cutchins, Christopher K. Babb, Justin R. Babb, Daniel H. Roberson; six great grandchildren; sister, Barbara O’Neal and husband, Richard; and brother, William Boone and wife, Vonda.
