CHESAPEAKE -- Agnes Williford Creech, 86, of the 2500 block of Livesay Road, died Sept. 16, 2001, in Suffolk.
A native of
Johnson County, N.C., she was the widow of Simon K. Creech and was also predeceased by a daughter, Mary Joyce Creech and a granddaughter. Mrs. Creech retired as the owner and operator of Vanity Beauty Salon in Portsmouth and was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church and its Ruth Bible Class.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Davis and husband Gene of Chesapeake; two sons, Jerry K. Creech and wife Leigh of Union City, Tenn., and Donald Creech of Tomball, Texas; a sister-in-law, Inez Williford of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Craig E. Davis and wife Joy, Brian L. Davis and wife Rosa, Christopher Davis and wife Karen, Alan K. Creech and wife Jennifer, Gary C. Creech, Renee Imrek and husband Dr. Alan Imrek and Angela Herron and husband Robert; and seven great-grandchildren, Brent, Brian Jr., Brandon, Jessica, Nicholas, Riley and Bethany; and many, many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. T.M. Frye. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m. and other times at 1022 Baugher Ave., Chesapeake.
Herlin S. Deloatch
CHESAPEAKE -- Herlin Samuel Deloatch, 67, of the 2200 block of Lloyd Drive, died Sept. 16, 2001.
He was born in Portsmouth and was a construction worker for Atlantic
Foundation.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Jackson Deloatch; a daughter, Vernetta L. Monk; stepmother, Thelma M. Deloatch; three sisters, Sarah D. Diggs and her husband Herbert G., Carolyn Deloatch and Mary D. Lawrence; a brother, Charles Daughtry; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; two special cousins, Mabel J. Daughtry and Betty Lassiter-Knight; a second set of siblings including five sisters, Doris J. Dunbar, Annie Knight, Mary Hudson, Elma
Williams and Charlette Deloatch; and five brothers, George L. Deloatch, Willie L. Deloatch, Miller L. Deloatch, Bruce W. Deloatch and Warren E. Deloatch; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Fisher Funeral Home, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Nathaniel Scates. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The family will assemble and receive friends at the residence.

Virginia S. Lyson
CHESAPEAKE -- Virginia Styron Lyson, 85, died Sept. 17, 2001. She was born in Princess Anne County, Va., and was the widow of Joseph Lyson.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley C. Haskell of Chesapeake and Elizabeth Delfenthal and her husband Joseph of Smithfield, Va.; a sister, Margie Boykins of Lynchburg, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Aubrey L. Ramsey
CHESAPEAKE -- Aubrey Lacy Ramsey, 68, of the 1500 block of Jolliff Road, died Sept. 17, 2001, at a Portsmouth hospital.
A native of Danville, Va., he was a Baptist and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Gerry Ramsey; a daughter, Doris Vick and husband Gary of Chesapeake; a son, William L. Ramsey and wife Mary of Gates County, N.C.; two sisters, Margaret Tribble of Bel Air, Neb. and Jean Eason of Odessa, Fla.; a brother, Richard Ramsey of Chesapeake; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling arrangements.
Elva S. Snead
CHESAPEAKE -- Elva Sites Snead, 79, died Sept. 16, 2001. A private funeral service will be held in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington, Va. Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, is in charge.
John C. Speller Sr.
CHESAPEAKE -- The Rev. John Calvin Speller Sr., 71, of the 300 block of Hinton Ave., died Sept. 15, 2001, in Chesapeake General Hospital.
Born in Windsor, N.C., he was employed by the U.S. Army's military for two years and had retired in 1987 from the Naval Air Station after 37 years of service. Rev. Speller was the founder of both Greater Mount Zion Christian Church and New Mount Pleasant Christian Church, both in Portsmouth.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Lenora Speller of the home; five daughters, Sherrion E.
Williams of Dallas, Texas, Esther L. Smith, Darlene V. Brown, and Renee Dumpson, all of Chesapeake, Sharmona A. Speller of Detroit, Mich.; stepdaughters, Shannon and Nicole Newsome of Portsmouth; six sons, Calvin Speller, Bobby Speller, J. Fitzgerald Kennedy Speller, Ronald J. Speller, John C. Speller III, and John C. Sharp, all of Chesapeake; a stepson, Orlando Newsome of Portsmouth; three sisters, Esther L. Holloway and Betty Longshore, both of Chesapeake and Pauline Hunt of Portsmouth; a brother, David Speller of Chesapeake; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ethel K. Speller; and his parents, Roxerna Speller and John R. Speller.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Antioch Baptist Church, 525 Dinwiddie St., Norfolk, by the Rev. John T. Veal with interment in Roosevelt Memorial Park. A Christian Wake service will be held Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at P.G. Thomasson Funeral Chapel, 1080 N. George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake.
Wade H. Williams
CHESAPEAKE -- Wade Hampton Williams, 83, formerly of Chesapeake, returned to our Heavenly Father's care Saturday morning, Sept. 15, 2001, where he joins his dear sweetheart, Josephine.
Born March 15, 1918, in
Johnson County, N.C., he was the son of the late Salton Adlay
Williams and Maggie Mae Stephenson.

Florrie H. Dermady
NORFOLK -- Florrie H. ``Snooks" ``Flo" Dermady entered into eternal rest on Sept. 17, 2001.
Born in Richmond, she was a member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church and the widow of John Leo Dermady.
She is survived by her son, George T. Dermady and wife Toby; grandson, Gerald T. Dermady and wife Patti, all of Norfolk.

Beatrice B. Ferebee
NORFOLK -- Beatrice Baxter Ferebee, daughter of late Adline and Dallas Baxter, was born in Currituck, N.C., on June 7, 1915, and on Sept. 14, 2001, our heavenly Father called her home to be with Him.
She was a member of Goodhope AME Church in Currituck, N.C., until she and her husband, John Ferebee, moved to Norfolk, where she became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, until her health failed her. She moved to be with her son's family in Horn Lake, Miss.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory a daughter, Rigina Hart of Norfolk; son, William L. Ferebee of Mississippi; two granddaughters, Denice M. Ferebee of Horn Lake and Michelle Y. Hodge of Richmond; two great-grandchildren, Christorphe M. and Anastasia M. Hodge; one brother, George Baxter of Riverhead, N.Y.; three sisters, Ethel Edwards of New York City, Addel Flowers of Riverhead and Alice Chatman of Currituck; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Edward Dennis Ellis
PORTSMOUTH -- Dennis Ellis, 56, of the 3300 block of Nelson St., died Sept. 16, 2001, in Norfolk.
He was a native of Portsmouth and was a retired welder from Shop 26 at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and ran Dennis' Handyman Service. He was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Edward Ellis.
Survivors include his mother, Mildred Dixon Ellis of Portsmouth; two daughters, Brandi Ellis and Sharon Ellis, both of Portsmouth; a sister, Carmen Louise Borowski of Portsmouth; and a brother, Frederick Ellis and wife Rose of Chesapeake.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. He will be missed and was loved by everyone.
Louise B. Hord
PORTSMOUTH -- Louise Barbee Hord, 85, of Woodland Street, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, in a Portsmouth hospital.
A native of Concord, N.C., she was the widow of Amzy M. Hord and retired from Rose Cleaners as a seamstress. Mrs. Hord was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Simpson of Portsmouth and Carolyn Dawson of Lexington, S.C.; a son, Stanley Hord of Edenton, N.C.; two sisters, Zelma Rawls of Newberry, S.C. and Pauline Parker of Winnsboro, S.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at noon in Greenlawn Mausoleum Chapel by the Rev. Daniel G. Spaugh. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Mausoleum. PORTSMOUTH -- Ethel Edwards Saunders, 94, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001. She was a native of Lewiston, N.C., a member of Alexander Baptist Church and retired from the Portsmouth Public School System.
Mrs. Saunders was the widow of James P. Saunders. She is survived by a son, Bill Saunders and wife Betty of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, C.H. Edwards and wife Evelyn of Lewiston; two granddaughters, Alice Pittman and husband Bill of Windsor, N.C. and Shannon Mullins and husband Greg of Jacksonville, Fla.; two great-grandsons, Tres Pittman and wife Betsy of San Fransisco, Calif., and Jamieson Pittman of Greenville, N.C.; a great-great-granddaughter, Allison Pittman of San Fransisco.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Alexander Baptist Church by Dr. Archie S. Corbin Jr. with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
