Leola G. Wall
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Leola Grace Wall, 76, died Sept. 16, 1998, in Virginia Beach.
She was born in Frederick, Md., to the late Boyd and Eva Ingalls. Mrs. Wall was a retired musician and also a retired secretary for the Civil Service Commission. She was a member of the Cosmos Club of Washington, D.C.
The widow of Leo A. Wall, she is survived by three daughters, Julia Ann Wall of St. Petersburg, Fla., Megan Hudson of Pine Grove, Calif., and Kathleen Cecelia Prangley of Cincinnati, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, including loving granddaughter, Erin Jeanne Wall of Virginia Beach; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Ellen Beckum.

Clifford H. Fenwick
SUFFOLK -- Clifford Harle ``Hook" Fenwick, 56, of the 200 block of Pine Street, died Sept. 14,1998, in Parkview Rehabilitation Center, Portsmouth, after a lingering illness.
He was a Suffolk native, the son of the late James C. Fenwick and Lettie Smith-Fenwick. He served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Norfolk Naval Base, Supply Center, and was a member of St. Marks A.M.E. Zion Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Shirley Fenwick; an adopted daughter, Vannetta W.
Williams of Suffolk; a sister, Dana F. Tate of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, James W. Fenwick of Newport News and Robert S. Fenwick of Baltimore; two aunts, Ada S. Collins of Bronx, N.Y., and Louise Garrett of Baltimore; five sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Marks A.M.E. Zion Church by the Rev. J. Maverick Smith. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The family will receive friends at 249 Pine St., Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home Inc. is handling arrangements.

James O. Jones
SUFFOLK -- James Oliver Jones, 76, of the 200 block of Highland Ave., died Sept. 17, 1998, at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital.
A native of Gates County, N.C., he was the son of the late Hersey Thomas
Jones and Clara Kathryn Jones. He retired as a transit supervisor for the city of Suffolk and had 44 years of service in the transportation field. He was a member of Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Willie E.
Jones of Suffolk; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara J. and Jack Blythe, Janet J. and Charlie Loging, all of Suffolk, and Darlene J. and Mike Wilkerson of Franklin, Va.; four granchildren, Caitlin Wilkerson, Brandi Wilkerson, Eric
Jones and Trent Jones; sister, Myrtle Fowler of Somerton, Va.; and brother, Willie T.
Jones of Gates County.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harrell Funeral Home by the Rev. Tim Meyer. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Buddy Hunt
ELIZABETH CITY -- Joseph Chester ``Buddy" Hunt, 78, of the 300 block of Pineview Drive, died at his residence Wednesday evening, Sept. 16, 1998.
He was a native of Bluefield, W.Va., and was the son of the late Joseph Garland and Nellie Bailey Hunt and the husband of Josephine Neery Hunt of the home. Mr. Hunt was the former owner of Belcross Beverage Co. Inc., a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites, Elks Lodge, life member of the Moose Lodge, E.C. Shrine Club, E.C. Lion's Club, American Legion, where he was past post commander and county commander, La Societe 40 & 8, V.F.W., past chairman of the American Red Cross, past president of the United Fund, former chairman of the E.C. Chamber of Commerce, member of the E.C. Cosmopolitan Club, E.C. Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and past president of the Concert Association. He was president of the 14th NCB Seabee Association.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Susan Beard of Atlanta, Ga., and Barbara Hunt of Savannah, Ga.; three sisters, Lois Flynn of Plano, Texas, Dorothy Stump of Charlotte, N.C., and Helen Montelli of Welch, W.Va.; and a granddaughter, Lauren Beard of Atlanta.
Services for Mr. Hunt will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Church St., by Father John Gillespie. A private burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home immediately following the service and at other times at the residence. POINT HARBOR -- Donald Craig ``Donnie" Morgan, 34, died Saturday Sept. 12, 1998, at Pitt Memorial Hospital. Mr. Morgan was born in Norfolk and was a Protestant. He was the son of Donald and Diane Matthias Morgan of Point Harbor.
Besides his parents, Mr. Morgan is survived by one sister, Kim M. Martan; and a niece and nephew, Nina

EDENTON -- Stella Mae Bateman Swain, 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, in Britthaven Nursing Home of Edenton.
A native of Tyrrell County, Mrs. Swain was the wife of the late Plato C. Swain and daughter of the late Andrew C. and Alberta N. Bateman.
She is survived by her four daughters, Doris Lusk of Carlisle, Iowa, Nina Rowe of Columbia, N.C., Ida Massey of Vanceboro, N.C., and Rosetta Sutton of Edenton, N.C.; her sister, Louise Council of Chesapeake; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

John R. Schmidt
HAMPTON -- John Robert Schmidt, 66, of Hampton, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998. Born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., he had been a Hampton resident for 40 years.
Mr. Schmidt retired from IBM in 1987 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the North South Skirmish Association, the O.V.P.R. Black Powder Club, and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Schmidt is survived by his wife, Sandra S. Schmidt; his children, John Schmidt of Carrollton, Ga., David Schmidt and Leonard Schmidt, both of Hampton, Carol Ann Wood of Newport News, Tamberland Widman of Key West, Fla., Kirk Blaher and Todd Blaher, both of Virginia Beach, and Tonya Swain of Madison Heights; his sister, Jean Ann Falco of Doylestown, Pa.; and 15 grandchildren.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Neva Holliday Pharo Shirk, 95, formerly of Virginia Beach, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in State College, Pa.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold R. Shirk, owner of Shirk Electric Co. She was a member of Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and the Lochaven Garden Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Pharo Henley Cheshire of Corpus Christi, Texas; a son, Lawrence C. Pharo Jr. of State College, Pa.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

CHESAPEAKE -- Velma Elizabeth Griffin, 49, of the 1000 block of Wellington Ave., entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Lola Mae Butts and Oscar Butts. She is survived by three daughters, Felicia Bright and Carolyn Butts, both of Chesapeake, and Khisha Butts of Norfolk; two sons, Michael Butts and Sean Butts, both of Chesapeake; four sisters; seven brothers; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A home going service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will meet at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. the day of the service.
Roy G. Nothnagel
CHESAPEAKE -- Roy G. Nothnagel, 65, of the 1200 block of Kay Ave., died Sept. 16, 2000 in a local hospital.
Mr. Nothnagel was born in Norfolk and retired from Texaco as a fork lift operator after 33 years of service. He was a member of BPOE Lodge No. 795.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy B. Nothnagel; a daughter, Debra N. Stewart of Conyers, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Tami McCormick of Portsmouth; a son, William L. Nothnagel of Wallace, N.C.; his mother, Bessie M. Nothnagel of Chesapeake; a brother, Kerry Nothnagel of Chesapeake; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandsons.
