Robert L. Hinton

CHESAPEAKE -- Robert Lee Hinton, 64, of the 1000 block of Lathan Ave., died Aug. 28, 1998, at Chesapeake General Hospital. He was a native of South Norfolk.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Ann Hinton and Barbara Hinton; a son, Robert L. Hinton, all of Philadelphia; his mother, Ruth A. Bazemore of Chesapeake; two brothers, Samuel E. Hinton of Chesapeake and Thomas H. Hinton of Virginia Beach; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other surviving relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Westmunden, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Dr. John Ashby. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Fitchett Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

Dorothy J. Olson

CHESAPEAKE -- Dorothy (Jean) Olson passed away Aug. 15, 1998. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Chapel of the Good Shepherd, NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, with Father Richardson officiating.

George C. Donald Jr.

NORFOLK -- George Clarence Donald Jr., 37, of the 9600 block of 8th Bay St., slipped quietly away to be with our Lord, Aug. 26, 1998, at DePaul Medical Center.

A native of Norfolk, he was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk, where he sang in the Young Adult Choir. He graduated from Booker T. Washington, Class of 1979, and later attended Norfolk State University.

He leaves to mourn and forever cherish his memories a devoted friend, Craig Craddock, Farrah McCray, both of Norfolk, Andre Lewis of Dillwyn, Va., and Dwayne Robinson of Little Rock, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zorell Donald and George C. Donald Sr. and a dear friend, Melvin Evans Jr.

George was a loving, caring and compassionate friend who will truly be missed.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Southside Chapel, Berkley Ave., by the Rev. William Gregg. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 1 p.m. Thursday at 9628 8th Bay St., Apt. 6, Norfolk, for the funeral procession to the chapel.

Mary V. Kellam

NORFOLK -- Mary Vernice Kellam, 87, of the 200 block of Nicholson St., died Aug. 27, 1998, in her residence.

Born in Norfolk, she was the widow of Harry Lee Kellam. She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Norfolk, where she was an usher and a member of the choir.

Survivors include her sister, Frances ReVells; Mary Collins; six nieces; four nephews; and numerous grand-nieces and -nephews. She was the daughter of the late Gertrude L. and Phillip Braye.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial. Hale Funeral Home is in charge.

Gilbert N. McCallister

NORFOLK -- Gilbert Nelson McCallister, 81, passed away Aug. 30, 1998, at 9:30 p.m. He was a resident of Norfolk for the past 55 years.

Survivors include a sister, Helen Turner of Beckley, W.Va., and a brother, Elza McCallister of Worthington, Ohio. Two brothers preceded him in death including his twin brother, Hobart McCallister, and Garland McCallister. He leaves his wife, Bertha McCallister; three sons, Gilbert Nelson McCallister Jr. of Richmond, Garland Van McCallister of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Hobart Wynn McCallister of Hertford, N.C.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel. A chapel service will be conducted in the funeral on Thursday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Richard Hardison. Entombment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.

Patricia T. Morris

NORFOLK -- Patricia Thomas Morris of the 5800 block of Burton Station Road died Aug. 28, 1998.

She was the daughter of William Thomas Sr. and the late Viola Thomas. She was employed by the Norfolk Academy School System for 14 years.

She is survived by her father; one daughter, Valentina Lewis; one son, Xavier Morris, both of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Orie Valentine of Virginia Beach and Selma Thomas of Norfolk; one brother, William Thomas Jr. of Suitland, Md.; one godbrother, Bernard Green of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Marguel Thomas and Val-Zhane' Lewis; one son-in-law, Douglas Lewis; one godchild; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including a very special, devoted friend, George Wiggins.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Greater St. Andrew AME Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Willie L. White Sr. Viewing will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at E.A. Hughes Funeral Home, Norfolk. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park Cemetery. T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home is in charge.

Freda E. Paine

NORFOLK -- Freda Elizabeth Paine, 87, of the 200 block of Westmont Ave., died Aug. 31, 1998, at a Norfolk hospital.

A native of Darthmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was a Protestant.

Survivors include her husband, William C. Paine; a daughter, Dorothy E. Campbell of Virginia Beach; a son, William C. Paine Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Raleigh, N.C.; three sisters; four grandchildren, David, Matthew and Christopher Paine and Ian Campbell; and one great-grandson, Andrew Paine.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel.

Rosa P. Spady

NORFOLK -- Rosa Patterson Spady, 77, of the 5300 block of Coachway Drive, passed away Aug. 29, 1998.

She was born in Norfolk and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1939. Mrs. Spady was retired after 31 years from the Norfolk Naval Base. She was a member of The Golden Girls, a senior citizen group of The Salvation Army, and a club member of the 39ers. She was predeceased by her husband, Elbert C. Spady, her father, William H. Patterson Sr., and her mother, Mary Patterson Harold.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Redmon and Rosa ``Connie" Haynes, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sons, Elbert Lee Spady and Carl Eric Spady, both of Norfolk; two sisters, Mary Lamb of Norfolk and Geraldine Hinton of Virginia Beach; four brothers, William H. Patterson and Hilton T. Patterson, both of Norfolk, Melvin R. Patterson of Virginia Beach and retired Col. John T. Patterson of Mitchellville, Md.; six grandchildren, Vickie Scoby, Jimmy Scoby, Valerie Scoby, Michael Scoby and Carlton Spady, all of Norfolk; 15 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews; a loving and inseparable friend, Raymond Williams; two devoted friends, Edith Oliver and Ruth Smith.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Gilbert G. Campbell, pastor. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Hale Funeral Home is in charge.

Thelma I. Turner
NORFOLK -- Thelma Ida Turner of the 1000 block of Willingham St., passed quietly and gently on Thursday morning, August 27, 1998, at DePaul Medical Center. She was a native of Southampton County and the daughter of the late Henry C. and Minnie Boggie Lyttle. She was a homemaker and the widow of Elliot Turner.
She was a member of First Baptist Church Logan Park and had served as a member of the No. 1 Usher Board. She leaves to cherish her memory a sister, McReese Person; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, among them, two special nieces, Lacey Malone and Madeline Bembry.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday at First Baptist Church Logan Park with the Rev. Joseph Price, officiating. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Riddick Funeral Home Service.

Raymond H. Clark
PORTSMOUTH -- Raymond Harrison Clark, 52, of Vermont Ave., died Aug. 30, 1998, in Portsmouth. Mr. Clark, a native of Portsmouth, was employed by the City of Portsmouth as its benefits manager. He was a graduate of St. Paul's High School and Upper Iowa University, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Carol Tyler Clark of Suffolk; a daughter, Joy F. Clark of Virginia Beach; two stepchildren, Cameron Tyler Daughtrey and James J. Daughtrey III, both of Suffolk; his mother, Ellen Hannah Clark of Portsmouth; a sister, Carolyn C. Darr and two nephews, Roger and Brian Darr, all of Atlanta. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. James Carr. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Baker- Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.

Thelma B. Fleming

PORTSMOUTH -- Thelma B. Fleming, 91, of Mayfair House, died Aug. 28, 1998, at her residence.

A native of Dora, Ala., she was retired as a clerk in sportswear from Smith and Welton's Department Store. She was a member of Cradock Baptist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include three sisters, Mary L. Robinson of Jacksonville, Fla., Virginia Dean Crumb of Page, W.Va., and Christen Davis of Jasper, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Howard Fleming III, Michael Fleming, David Fleming, Mark Fleming, Rebecca Fleming, Charles Edward Fleming and Linda Sue Goode; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Howard Thomas Jr. and Charles Edward Fleming.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by Dr. David Denny. Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, is in charge.

Myra V. Loyd

PORTSMOUTH -- Myra Victoria Loyd, 47, of the 4500 block of Ibis Court, died Aug. 30, 1998. She was a clerk for the Division of Motor Vehicles and a native of Greenville, S.C.

Survivors include her daughter, Nicole Hawley and her husband, Dan, of Portsmouth; a son, Dean Loyd and his wife, Beth, of Virginia Beach; mother, Mary A. Gilbert and stepfather, Tootie Gilbert of Chesapeake; four brothers, Danny Hunt and Wayne Hunt, both of Portsmouth, Randy Hunt of Chesapeake, and Timmy Hunt of North Carolina; and a grandson, Tyler Hawley.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, by the Rev. Aubrey D. Maye. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and at other times at 4808 Peace Way.

Charles A. Wilson Sr.

PORTSMOUTH -- Charles A. Wilson Sr., 69, formerly of the 200 block of Riddick Drive died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, after a brief illness. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Frances E. Wilson; five children, Charles A. Wilson Jr., Karen B. Wilson, Cheryl Wilson Worrell, Keith A. Wilson and Jeffrey B. Wilson; six grandchildren; one brother; and three sisters.

A Christian wake service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Graves Funeral Home, Norfolk. A funeral will be held at noon Thursday by Monsignor Walter Barrett at Basilica of St. Mary's of the Immaculate Conception, 1000 Holt St., Norfolk. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park.

May he rest in peace.

Eileen S. Chambers

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Eileen Susie Chambers, 48, of the 5300 block of Bonney Dale Road, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in a local hospital.

Born in Petersburg, Va., she is survived by her fiance, William Lewis Melton; a daughter, Brooke Rene; her parents, William M. Sr. and Betty Rae Wickert; three brothers, Daniel M., Ronald W. and William M. Jr.; a sister, Gail Finnegan; three nieces; and two nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kellum Funeral Home, Pleasant Hall Chapel, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kempsville Rescue Squad or to the American Cancer Society. 

Earl C. Geister II
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Earl Clayton Geister II, 48, of the 2500 block of Reagan Ave., died Aug. 30, 1998. Funeral services will take place in Bay City, Mich. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel, is handling local arrangements.

Thomas F. Liverman Jr.
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Thomas Franklin Liverman Jr., 71, of Virginia Beach, died Aug. 31, 1998, in his residence. Mr. Liverman was born in South Norfolk and was the son of the late Thomas Franklin Liverman Sr. and Doris Maston Liverman. He was a member of Virginia Beach Community Chapel. Mr. Liverman was a graduate of Elon College and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. Survivors include his wife, Cleta G. Liverman; four sons, Roderick L. Liverman and his wife, Susan, of Midlothian, Va., Jeffry S. Liverman and his wife, Cookie, of Mesa, Ariz., Bradley C. Liverman and his wife, Sherrie, and Thomas ``Scott" Liverman and his wife, Fran, all of Virginia Beach; one brother, Donald L. Liverman of Virginia Beach; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services are pending. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Community Chapel. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Joseph J. Nalepinski

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Joseph J. Nalepinski, 79, of Virginia Beach and Wind Lake, Wis., died Aug. 30, in a Virginia Beach hospital.

Born in Milwaukee, Wis., he was the widower of Irene R. Nalepinski and retired as a chief master sergeant with the Wisconsin Air National Guard. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea.

Survivors include a son, Todd M. Nalepinski and his wife, Virginia R. Nalepinski, of Virginia Beach; a brother, William; and five grandchildren, Nathalie, Timothy, Kathleen, David and Jamie.

The body will be sent from Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, to Schuette-Daniels Funeral Service in Burlington, Wis.
