Garland A. (Smiley) Childress, 68, of Mechanicsville, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ruby S. Childress; one daughter, Linda C. Texter and her husband, Robert of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Garland E. Childress and his friend, Terry Shockley and James W. Childress and his wife, Deborah; one granddaughter, Michelle Leigh Childress; one sister, Myrtle C. Ukrop; and a host of devoted family members and friends. Mr. Childress was retired from Nabisco, a member of Babcock #322 Masonic Lodge, a member of Naomi Chapter #4 of the Eastern Star, a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon #170 and a member of Highland Springs United Methodist Church. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends Monday, 12 to 8:30 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., and where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

Coleman Lewis Cook, 74, of Mineral, Va., departed this life Saturday, January 13, 2001. Remains rest at the Robert Mealy Funeral Home, Goochland, Va. Funeral notice later.
CRAYCHEE
Celestina Maria Craychee, 74, of Richmond, widow of Clement J. Craychee, departed this life January 11, 2001. She is survived by her three devoted children, J. Christopher Reynolds, Robert L. Branch and Betsy M. Hochfelder; son-in-law, Randy C. Hochfelder; grandsons, John P. Branch and Martin M. Hochfelder; three great-grandchildren and many friends who were loved as family. A memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.

DOZIER
Emmitt Dozier Jr., 78, of Richmond, departed this life peacefully on the 11th day of January, 2001 at home after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Dozier, the son of Emmitt William and Pearl Wiram Dozier, was born in Versailles, Kentucky on March 31, 1922. As a technical sergeant during World War II, he served in the U.S. Army for over three years, including duty with General George Patton's 3rd Army in Europe, having landed at Normandy on D-Day plus 4, and subsequently fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He led the establishment of Richfood Dairy in 1965 and retired after 23 years of service with Richfood as Vice-President of Dairy Operations. Mr. Dozier was selected a Kentucky Colonel and was a longtime member of the Richmond Northside Lions Club. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he loved his family deeply. Emmitt will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, the former Henrietta Geisler; two sons, Bruce Dozier and his wife, Suzy of Wilmington, Del. and Glenn Dozier and his wife, Paula of Richmond; three grandchildren, Laura Jean Dozier of Richmond, Douglas Scott Dozier of Wilmington, and Diana Leigh Dozier of Richmond. He is also survived by his sister, Pauline Dozier
Brown of Versailles, Ky. and Fort Meyers, Fla. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Shizuko Sese "Suzy" Eden, 69, of Colonial Heights, died on Saturday, January 13, 2001 at Chippenham Medical Center, Richmond. A native of Japan, she was the daughter of the late Yoshio and Fuzino Obata Sese. She was a retired data entry operator with the Virginia Department of Taxation with 18 years service. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Colonial Heights Senior Citizens' Club and Club VIP. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sally N. and Michael Wood of Chester; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas H. and Aimee Eden of Ashburn, Va., Anthony T. and Tammy Eden of Richmond; grandchildren, April Lynne and Sean Michael Wood, Rachel Marie and Hana Lynn Eden, Taylor Nichole and Troy Davis Eden. She will be cherished in memory by Thomas Hilton Eden, Jim and Sue Eden, Evelyn Ecret and family. She will be missed by all her loving friends. William C. Fones, age 50, of Richmond, died suddenly Saturday, January 13, 2001. He is survived by his faithful wife, L.P. Fones; three devoted children, Michelle Groux, Robert Fones and Nikki Smith; two grandchildren, Jessica and Billy Groux; his parents, Sylvia and Thomas Smith, and Junnie and Lena Fones; three brothers, Pete Godfrey, Pete and Jerry Fones; one sister, Linda Beasley. HARLESS
Ira T. Harless died Friday, January 12, 2001. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. His entire life was dedicated to his work and his family. He retired from St. Joseph Villa after 37 years of service and was a Marshall at the Hollows Golf Club. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean, together for the past 54 years; a daughter, Kathy Mitchell and son-in-law, Ricky Mitchell; a son Dickie and daughter-in-law, Linda; four grandchildren, Wendy H. Cutrona, Jason S. Harless and wife, Kristi, Erin M. Mitchell and Ashlee D. Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Joseph L. Cutrona Jr. (Rip) and Cierrah M. Harless. A sister, Maggie, also mourns the loss of a brother, along with hundreds of other relatives and friends. Ira was born October 14, 1922 in Russell County, Va. The son of Sylvester and Eva whom he now joins along with sisters, Catherine and Pearl; brother, Bob, Claude, George, and Jessee. For those of us who knew and loved him, it is our loss. Our lives will not be the same without him. Dr. Woodrow Claiborne Henderson, formerly of Richmond, Va., died in Leonardtown, Md. on Friday, January 12, 2001. He is survived by one son, Woodrow Claiborne Henderson Jr. of Arlington, Va.; two daughters, Anne Henderson Marum of Lexington Park, Md. and Catherine Henderson Stein of Silver Spring, Md.; two sisters, Vernessa Henderson Mills and Kathryn Henderson Dewberry, both of South Boston, Va.; two nephews, Edwin Dean Henderson of Richmond and Herbert G. Mills Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Willie May Hinkley, 89, of Mechanicsville, died January 12, 2001. She was the widow of Rev. D.K. Hinkley. She is survived by her daughters, Martha Lyles, Christine Nelson, Rebecca Scallan and Barbara Bell; son, Phillip Hinkley; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Frances Marion Hinton, 67, of Chester, died January 11, 2001 in John Randolph Medical Center as a result of complications from an operation years ago. She was a longtime member of West End Presbyterian Church in Hopewell. A devoted wife and mother, she is survived by her husband, Dr. Everett H. Hinton Jr. of the home; three children, Bryan D. Hinton of Baltimore, Md., David E. Hinton of Great Mills, Md., Cynthia L. Potts of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren, Bryan Allin Hinton, Michele Frances Hinton, Scott Andrew Hinton, Jackson Lee Potts and Liam Thomas Hinton. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 15, in Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Wayne Good officiating. A Memorial Service will follow on Monday evening at 7 p.m. in West End Presbyterian Church in Hopewell, with Dr. Robert C. Wilson officiating.
