Funeral services for Carolyn "Connie" Rutheford will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church by Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Dilks and pastor Lloyd J.
Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mrs. Rutherford, 64, of 100 Robin Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.

Darris E. Stanley
COEBURN -- Darris Eugene Stanley, 56, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Dickenson County, a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Rosa Alice Perrigan Stanley, and lived in Coeburn for the past 30 years. He was a heavy-equipment operator.
Surviving are his wife, Sara Stanley; three daughters, Veronica Jean
Smith of Danielsville, Ga., Mychelle Marie Bishop of Mooresburg, Tenn., and Tara Nicole Stanley of Coeburn; three sons, Darris Eugene Stanley Jr. of Norton, Gordie McKinley Stanley of Danielsville and Buford William Stanley of Norton; a brother, James Curtis Perrigan of Mansfield, Ohio; a sister, Trula Moore of
Johnson City; eight grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in Estes Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Pythian Daniels will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Friday in Estes Funeral Home.
Emily H. Summers
ELBERTA, Ala. -- Emily Jane Hale Summers, 86, formerly of the Gardner Community near Honaker, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in Foley, Ala.
She was born in Gardner, a daughter of the late S.F. and Minnie Lou Hubbard Hale. She lived in Alabama for the past 21 years and was a former resident of Welch, W.Va., Abingdon and Jacksonville, Fla. While living in Welch she was employed as a telephone operator.
She was a member of Perdido Beach Baptist Church in Alabama.
Surviving are a son, John Summers of Elberta; three sisters, Dorothy Bare of Greensboro, N.C., Ree Mize of Honaker and Blanche Louise Breeding of Lebanon; a brother, Howard Hale of Honaker; and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Harry Moore will officiate. Entombment will be in Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon.
Mrs. Summers was also preceded in death by two sisters; two brothers; two half-sisters; and a half-brother.
Among survivors are a daughter-in-law, Marlene Summers of Elberta; and granddaughters, Shana Summers and Tanya Summers.
Pallbearers will be relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in Honaker Funeral Home.

Mrs. Surber, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Holston Valley Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be Jason Surber, Wesley Surber, Gary Surber, Mark Trogdon, Shirley Surber, Donald Surber, Chris DeBord and John Canter.

SALTVILLE -- Funeral services for William N. "Bill" Sword will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. The Revs. David Mumpower and Robert Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Elizabeth Cemetery.
Mr. Sword, 70, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Pallbearers will be Ray Price, Ronnie Olinger, Ernie Montgomery, Jeff Comer, Brandon Gates, Ronnie Harris and Mike Olinger.

GLADE SPRING -- Funeral services for Jason Todd "Jay Tee" Taylor will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Glade Spring Presbyterian Church by Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon. The Rev. Timothy O. Bird will officiate. Burial will be in Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery.
Mr. Taylor, 19, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Farmer, Andy Puckett, Lance McGlocklin, Chad Pennington, William Trogdon, Jonathon McGlocklin and Josh Saddler. Honorary pallbearers will be very special cousins and teammates and classmates of Patrick Henry High School and Virginia Intermont College.

Flossie L. Tibbs, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport.
She was the widow of William Woodrow Tibbs and was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Earline Blakely of Clio, Mich., and Lucille McFarlane of Kingsport; a son, Frank Tibbs of Dade City, Fla.; a sister, Edith Shupe of Atkins, Va.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Faith Missionary Baptist Church by Barnett's Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wassum Cemetery.
Mrs. Tibbs was also preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Armstrong.

Beulah C. Whitt
CEDAR BLUFF -- Beulah Carry Whitt, 79, of the Bane Bottom section, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in a Richlands hospital.
She was born in Tazewell, a daughter of the late Robert Henry and Rhoda Octave Stevenson Joyce, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was the widow of Arlie Clinton Whitt.
Surviving are a son, Bobby Whitt of Cedar Bluff; two daughters, Elsie Whitt of Cedar Bluff and Octave Ball of Graham, N.C.; a sister, Agnes Boyd of Richlands; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Bluff. The Rev. Rick Grinstead will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery in Claypool Hill.
Mrs. Whitt was also preceded in death by five brothers, Hufford Joyce, Burley Joyce, Howard Joyce, Emory Joyce and Charlie Joyce; and a sister, Nannie Horn.
Among survivors are a daughter-in-law, Christine Whitt of Cedar Bluff; son-in-law, Ronnie Ball of Graham; sister-in-law, Lydia Joyce of Cedar Bluff; grandchildren, Joetta Whalen, Tony Ball, Charlene Altizer, Stephen Whitt and wife Tonya, Leslie Whitt and Beth Whitt; and great-grandchildren, Alex Ball and Heather Whalen.
Pallbearers will be Alfred Keen, Larry Joyce, David Joyce, Howard Joyce, Kenneth Joyce, Mike Boyd, Hufford Junior Joyce and Frazier Joyce. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and Dr. L.Z. Claustro.

Launa S. Yates
GRUNDY -- Launa E. Stiltner Yates, 83, of the Little Prater Section, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Abingdon, Va..
She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a daughter of the late Berry and Nanny Deskins Stiltner, and was a member of Little Prater Church of Christ. She was a homemaker and the widow of Ashley Aaron Yates.
Surviving are four daughters, Nancy Shinault of Rural Hall, N.C., Peggy Williamson of Abingdon, Linda Yates of Vansant, Va., and Donna Sexton of Grundy; three sons, Doug Yates of Grundy, Eddie Yates of Sarasota, Fla., and Charles Yates of Vansant; a sister, Mae Ratliff of Cedar Bluff; a brother, John Stiltner of Detroit; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Little Prater Church of Christ by Grundy Funeral Home. Evangelists Michael Trent, Mike Rife and Farron Franklin will officiate. Burial will be in Robert Yates Cemetery on Little Prater, Route 4, Grundy.
Mrs. Yates was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jimmy Robert Yates; a sister, Ada Decker; and a half-brother, Andrew Smith.
Among survivors are sons-in-law, Alex Shinault of Rural Hall, Roger Yates of Vansant and Keith Sexton of Grundy; daughters-in-law, Alisa Yates of Sarasota and Kathy Yates of Vansant; and a very special nephew, Jimmy Stiltner of Grundy.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be elders and deacons of Little Prater Church of Christ and Dr. J.P. Sutherland Jr.
Friends may call at 5 p.m. Friday in the church. There will be services in the church at 7 p.m. Saturday.
