John M. Umbarger
CHILHOWIE -- John Milton Umbarger, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
He was a son of the late Milton
Brown and Mary Josephine Cole Umbarger, a retired farmer and a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Eula Mae Conner of Agaura Hills, Calif., and Anna Elizabeth Umbarger of Chilhowie; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in
Williams Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John H. Graham will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Umbarger was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Willard Umbarger; and a sister, Virginia Eleanor Vicars.
Among survivors are several cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in
Williams Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Mountain View United Methodist Church.

Brown Ainsco, 56, of Bristol Tennessee, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She lived in Bristol since 1975 and served as a secretary to David Haynes, Attorney, for the past 23 years.
Surviving are a son, Master Sgt. Charles "Skip" Ainsco of Melbourne, Fla.
Services will be private.

MARION -- Funeral services for Mary Anne Martin Anderson will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Seaver-
Brown Chapel. The Revs. Bobby Baker and Jody Blevins will officiate. Burial will be in Slemp Cemetery in Sugar Grove, Va.
Mrs. Anderson, 50, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are a daughter, Angela Hester of Marion; a son, Ralph D. Anderson Jr. of Wytheville; a sister, Audrey Kate Pittman of Richmond; and four grandchildren, Markie Shantel Hester, Shawnee Nicole Hester, Tabatha Gwynn Anderson and Brandy Lee-Ann Anderson.
Among survivors is a son-in-law, Mark Hester of Marion.

Brown Chapel.

Brown Barton, 58, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital in Norton.
She was a daughter of the late Hubert and Sally Cooke
Brown and a 1960 graduate of J.J. Kelly High School. She was a licensed practical nurse for Dr. L.C. Strong and Dr. Albert H. Bond and a former employee of Park Avenue Hospital in Norton.
Surviving are her husband, Hershel Barton; a stepson, James C. Barton of Pekin, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Yvonne Sharon Amber of Corbin, Ky.; four grandchildren, Michelle, Ken Shon, James Michael and Joshua Scott; and a great-grandson, Scott.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 7 p.m. in Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise. The Rev. Glen Sturgill will officiate. Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in
Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap.

Mary T. Bowers
Mary T. Bowers, 87, of Bristol Tennessee, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in NHC Healthcare of Bristol.
She was born in Smyth County, a daughter of the late Daniel A. and Virginia T. White Taylor, and moved to Bristol in 1968. She was the widow of John Henry Bowers and a member of Edgemont Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a sister, Virginia Ripkowski of Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Blevins Funeral Home in Bristol, Va.
Flossie S. Clark

Mrs. Clark, 89, of 2211 Denton Valley Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Oscar Stewart, Kenneth Woods, Mike Rutherford, Danny Rutherford, Richard Rutherford, Don Vance, Dan Rush and J.W. Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Chester Stewart, Gary Stewart, Gary Woods, Dean Leonard, Douglas Rush and Sammy Wyatt.

Raymond Gibson
BUCHANAN COUNTY, Va. -- Raymond "Hoot" Gibson, 77, of the Patterson section, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Buchanan General Hospital.
He was born in Sterns, Ky., a son of the late James "Jim" Gibson and Lula
Brown Gibson. He was of the Holiness faith, a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired coal miner from Pittston Coal Co. He was a member of UMWA Local Union 1509 District 20.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Ethel
Johnson Gibson; a daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Wilma J.) Keen of Patterson, Va.; a sister, Katherine Franks of Hazard, Ky.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Toni Keen, Zachary Dalton and Karissa Keen.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Troy Lester, Dewey Ward and Rick Whitt will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va.
Mr. Gibson was also preceded in death by a sister, Stella Chapman; and five brothers, Carl Gibson, Everett Gibson, Herman Gibson, Lawrence Gibson and Sigel Gibson.

Mrs. Gilliam died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000.
