Carl Raymond Snead Sr.
SALTVILLE -- Carl Raymond Snead Sr., 70, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at his home in Truro, Iowa.
He was born in Saltville, a son of the late Dewey Snead and Sarah Sally Terry Snead. He was educated in Hyders Gap and Meadowview. He was a lookout in the fire towers for the U.S. Forestry Service until retirement in 1962. He was a sergeant 1st class in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Anderson Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Donna Snead of Truro; a son, Carl Raymond Snead Jr. of Truro; a daughter, Jacklyn Snead of Bolingbrook, Ill.; three brothers, Charlie Snead, Thurn Snead and Oliver Snead, all of Saltville; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Phillip Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery with military rites by VFW "Hardy Roberts" Post 7328.
Mr. Snead was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Snead; and a sister, Mabel Murdock.
Among survivors are his son's fiancee Sherri Vanderflught; sister-in-law Georgia Mae Snead of Cleveland, Tenn; grandchildren, Jennifer and Ryan Wong, both of Bolingbrook, Ill.; and other relatives and friends.
Mr. Snead was united in marriage on March 25, 1953, to Donna Lou Watkins in Abingdon and two children blessed this union.
Pallbearers will be Delmar Snead, Anthony Snead, Michael Snead, Pat Snead, Thurn Snead Jr. and Danny Snead.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home.
Clarence Stiltner
BLUFF CITY -- Funeral services for Clarence "C.A." Stiltner will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, Va. The Rev. Billy Rosenbaum will officiate. Entombment will be in Greenhills Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va.
Mr. Stiltner, 70, formerly of Vansant, Va., died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Martha C. Tester
BLUFF CITY -- Graveside services for Martha L. Carty Tester will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Sunrise Cemetery.
Mrs. Tester, of 669 Egypt Road, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Piney Flats, a daughter of Mona
Smith of Bristol Tennessee and the late Ed Carty. She was a lifelong resident of Bluff City, a former employee of Sullivan County Landfill, a housewife and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving, besides her mother, are her husband, Sidney W. Tester; a son, S. Allen Tester of Bluff City; her stepfather, Kenneth Smith; a sister, Betty C. Humphrey of Bluff City; two brothers, Bill Carty of Piney Flats and Eddie Carty of Gate City; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; five nieces; and a nephew.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Tester, Michael Tester, Eddie Carty, Chuck Arnold, James Osborne and Frank Osborne. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Wilson, Guy Wilson Jr., Chase Arnold, Michael Jenkins, Matt Jenkins and Kenny Jenkins.

Grace Lynn Terry Thomas
Funeral services for Grace Lynn Terry Thomas will be conducted Friday at noon in full Gospel Fellowship Church by Weaver Funeral Home. The Rev. Phil Kestner will officiate. Burial will be in Shipley Cemetery.
Mrs. Thomas, 54, of Shelby Street Apartments, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and formerly employed with Carolyn Manufacturing. She was a member of Full Gospel Fellowship and served as assistant manager at Fort Shelby Apartments, where she was also on the Resident Council.
Surviving are three daughters, Teresa McDavid, Paul Hurd and Angela Bowman, all of Bristol Tennessee; a son, Paul A. Thomas of Bristol Tennessee; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Among survivors are grandchildren Jessee Thomas, Amber Thomas, Heather Johnson, Ashley Bowman, Andrea Bowman, Alyssa Bowman and Zackrey Thomas; and special friends Nellie (Kelly) Rogers, Barbara Gentry, Marie Thomas and Judy Bruce.

Ethel H. Wallace
CLEVELAND, Va. -- Ethel Hubble Wallace, 89, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Russell County and a member and former Sunday school teacher at Cleveland United Methodist Church. She was a member of Russell County Home Demonstration Club and Russell County Medical Center Pink Ladies. She was the widow of Sherman Wallace.
Surviving are a daughter, Amelia W. Flora of Richmond; two sons, Sherman Wallace Jr. of Cleveland, Va., and Dean M. Wallace of Louisville, Ky.; three sisters, Eve
Brown of Charlotte, N.C., Pearl Richie of Roanoke and Maye Wheatley of Nickelsville; a brother, Pete Hubble of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Russell County Funeral Home Chapel in Lebanon. The Rev. James Massie will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Wallace was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janette Wagoner; a son, Gene Morgan Wallace; and three brothers, Roy Hubble, John Hubble and Ford Hubble.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Mike Wagoner, Jason Flora, David Wallace and Daniel Wallace and other family members, Stan Wagoner, Dave McGill, Ty Canipe and Dan Wallace.

Frances P. Whicker
Frances P. Whicker, of 400 Springbrook Drive, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol Tennessee and a member of Anderson Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Pauline Lane of Blountville and Hope Frakes of Sandusky, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Shelby Hills Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Robinson will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation in Akard Funeral Home.

Lee Roy Whisman
MARION -- Lee Roy Whisman, 78, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Orangeville, Pa.
He was a son of the late Marion and Virginia Whisman. He was a former truck driver and managed a Texaco station for Hidlay Oil Co., retiring in 1983.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Stout Tennesen Whisman of Berwick, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Patricia Polk of Berwick and Russell Tennesen of Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister, Catherine Peake of Maryland; a brother, James Whisman of Marion; eight granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack O. Whitehead Sr.
KNOXVILLE -- Memorial services for Jack O. Whitehead Sr. were held Sunday in Williamsburg, Ky.
Mr. Whitehead, 80, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in Park West Hospital in Knoxville.
He was a member of Fairmont Presbyterian Church and Masonic Lodge 490 of Williamsburg, Ky. He was a retired grocer and the widower of Tennessee Mays Whitehead.
Surviving are two daughters, Helen Coatney and Melissa White, both of Knoxville; two sons, Oakie Whitehead of Shreveport, La., and Eddie Whitehead of Bristol Virginia; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law Betty Whitehead of Bristol Virginia; and grandchildren Scott, Wade and Robbie Whitehead, all of Roanoke; and great-grandson Jack Dorsey Whitehead of Roanoke.
Mr. Whitehead was an avid jazz enthusiast and a lifelong Kentucky Wildcat supporter.

BIG STONE GAP -- Lula M. Williams, 89, of
Powell Valley died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Wellmont-Lonesome Pine Hospital.
She was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late Milburn and Mattie Jones. She had lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap. She was a member of Durham's Chapel Church in the Crackers Neck Community and the widow of Dewey Williams.
Surviving are a daughter, Bessie W. Hopkins of Big Stone Gap; a son, Coy E.
Williams of Big Stone Gap; a brother, Henry Clay
Jones of Woodway; three grandsons, Claude Eldridge
Williams of Big Stone Gap, Matthew Hopkins of
Johnson City and Michael David Hopkins of Douglasville, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Cory, Spencer and Gary; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 8 p.m. in Holding Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jonah Ray Shoop will officiate. Burial will be private.
