NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. -- Funeral services for Baxter Cook will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Clyde Lambert and Ancil Childress will officiate. Entombment will be in Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum on the Bluefield-Tazewell Highway with military honors by Barnes-Beavers VFW Post 7136 of Tazewell.
Mr. Cook, 72, of Route 4, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in a Bluefield, W.Va., hospital.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in Honaker Funeral Home.

MARION -- Casper N. Cregger, 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Bradley's Funeral Home.
Ronald J. Fields
HONAKER -- Funeral services for Ronald James Fields will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. Elders Danny Smith, Darrell Davis and Delford Ward will officiate. Burial will be in White Rose Cemetery near the home.
Mr. Fields, 42, of the Drill section, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be Josh Fields, J.B. Powers, David Hurt, Daniel Hurt, Adam Randolph, Tommy Joe McGlothlin, Mike Seale and Eric Stilwell.
Honaker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sylvia Ann Hurt
RICHLANDS -- Sylvia Ann Hurt, 88, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in a Richlands hospital.
She was born in Cabin Creek, W.Va., a daughter of the late Thomas and Louise Milan Buchanna. She was the widow of Clarence Hurt Sr.
Surviving are a son, Clarence Hurt Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Agnes) Brooks and Mrs. Roger (Louise) Miller; five sisters, Pearl Halsey of Webster, Fla., Cora Halsey and Eva Halsey, both of Pinville, W.Va., Marie Sailes of Glenfork, W.Va., and Billie Mathena of Detroit; a brother, Howell Buchanna of Newcomerstown, Ohio, and Jackie Buchanna of Whitesville, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff. Elders Delford Ward and Ben Combs will officiate. Burial will be in White Rose Cemetery at Drill.
Mrs. Hurt was also preceded in death by two brothers, Emmet Buchanna and Jack Buchanna; and four sisters, Ruby Munsey, Ethel Jones, Ada Carrol and Lucy Cook.
Pallbearers will be John Fields, Robert Fields, Henry Adams, Jackie Brian Powers, Lloyd Dale, Mike Seale and Gene Brown.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in Singleton Funeral Service.
Curtis J.T. Lawson
COEBURN -- Curtis J.T. Lawson, 70, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000. in Norton Community Hospital.
He was a son of the late James Troy Lawson and Ruth Carico Lawson Page. He was a retired coal miner and member of UMWA. He was owner and operator of Lawson's Floral for 28 years and a member and former director on the Board of AFFA Floral Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran, of the Baptist faith and the widower of Mildred Holbrook Lawson. He was a member and past president of Coeburn Lions Club, a former member of VFW and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He also served of the board of directors and was vice-president of Fairview Community Center.
Surviving are his wife, Goldie Deel Phipps Lawson; a son, Thomas T. Lawson of Coeburn; two daughters, Kathy Wampler and Linda French, both of Coeburn; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Messer of Coeburn and Clidetta Cothron of Sugarland, Texas; three stepsons, Gregory Phipps and Anthony Phipps, both of Woodbridge, and Homer Eric Phipps of Coeburn; four sisters, Trula Pippin of Gum Springs, Wilma
Johnson of Owings, Md., Shelby Dishman of Geneva, Ill., and Gail Boone of Mount Rainer, Md.; a brother, Harold Page of Aurora, Ill.; five grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Estes Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Wayne Perry and Larry Beavers will officiate. Burial will be in Lawson Cemetery in St. Paul.
Mr. Lawson was also preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Ray Lawson; and a son, Curtis Randall Lawson.
Among survivors are grandchildren Angela Greear, Thomas Lawson, Sarah Mullins, Chad French and Beth Thacker.

Nettie R. McClain
Nettie Rouse McClain, 75, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol Tennessee, a member of Walnut Hill Presbyterian Church and a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Glen McClain Sr.; a son, Glen W. "Billy" McClain of Bristol Tennessee; a daughter, Shirley M. Leek of Bristol Tennessee; three sisters, Dorothy Whitaker and Evelyn Camper, both of Bristol Tennessee, and Shirley Hazard of Columbia, Tenn.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 6 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Ed Crook and Dr. Kyle Barr will officiate. Entombment will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Mausoleum Chapel.
Among survivors are sisters-in-law Gerelda Rouse of Morristown, Tenn., and Virginia Rouse of Bristol Tennessee.
Mrs. McClain was faithful to her church, was a loving wife and her favorite hobby was quilting, where she made special quilts for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Glen McClain III, Matthew Leek, Jason Leek and Barry Brown; a nephew, Frank Fraley; and a friend, Jeff Doyle.
The family will receive friends after the chapel service Thursday in Weaver Funeral Home.
Herbert S. McCready
SALTVILLE -- Herbert Seldon "Cub" McCready, 86, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
He was a member of McCready United Methodist Church and the widower of Mary Virginia "Sis" McCready.
Surviving are two sisters, Nannie Nutter of Glade Spring and Sammy Routh of Erwin, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Mount Rose Cemetery Mausoleum in Glade Spring. The Rev. Mark Lundy will officiate.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

APPALACHIA -- Jeffrey William Metz, 29, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap.
He was a son of Barbara Harvey of Wise and William Metz of Belleview, Ohio. He was of the Protestant faith and a construction worker for Brooks Contractors in Appalachia.
Surviving, besides his parents, are a son, Chris of the home; three daughters, Ginger Michelle Metz of the home, and Heather and Kim, both of Shallotte, N.C.; his stepfather, Charlie Harvey of Wise; his stepmother, Mrs. William Metz of Belleview; maternal grandparents, Cletus and Leona Kummerer of Tiffin, Ohio; paternal grandmother, Betty Metz of Fremont, Ohio; paternal grandmother, Alice Harvey of Coeburn; six brothers, Bobby Gill, Allan Gill and Lee Harvey, all of Fremont, Rex Harvey of Helena, Ohio, Steve Harvey and Eric Harvey, both of Newport News; and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Morton, 85, of Bristol Tennessee died Monday, Feb. 2l, 2000, in NHC.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Arnold, Phil Parris, Jim Smith, Bob Alvey, Dr. Phil Longus, Harry Whisnant and Brandon Whisnant.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday prior to the service in Weaver Funeral Home.

NICKELSVILLE, Va. -- Graveside services for Daisy "Thelma" Salyers will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Dean Family Cemetery in Nickelsville. The family will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Mrs. Salyers, 83, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.
Pallbearers will be David Dean, Dennis Dean, Mike Dean, Glenn Dean, Stevie Dean, Paul Weddle and Eddie Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Taylor and Darrell Gillenwater.
