Lola Dear Millsap Sampson of 352 Walnut Hill Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, March 10, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Weaver Funeral Home.

Sarah K. Shipley

Sarah K. "Cassie" Shipley, 102, of 1640 Hickory Tree Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, March 9, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area, a daughter of the late George W. and Nancy Vance Booher. She was a homemaker, a member of Central Holston Christian Church and the 100 Year Club. She was the widow of Adam R. Shipley.
Surviving are three daughters, Edythe Cross, Anna Lee Carrier and Nancy Combs, all of Bristol; two sons, George W. Shipley and Dan O. Shipley, both of Bristol; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchldren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Central Holston Christian Church. Ministers Paul Favor and Wayne Emory will officiate. Burial will be in Shipley Cemetery.
Mrs. Shipley was also preceded in death by a son, J.W. Shipley; and a daughter, Nellogene Richard.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Carrier, Dean Shipley, Ronnie Cross, Kenny Grindstaff, Bobby Adam Miller and Greg Whitaker. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Jackson, Wayne Morrell, Paul Carlyle, H.M. Denton Sr., W.D. O'Dell, Ben Campbell, Rick Campbell, Charles "Scritch" Whitaker.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in Weaver Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Central Holston Christian Church, 261 Sand Bar Road, Bristol, TN 37620.

Mary Farris Adair

GLADE SPRING -- Mrs. Mary Farris Adair, 88, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Valley Health Care in Chilhowie.
She was the widow of R.W. Farris and Thomas Bryan Adair. She was a member of Glade Community First Church of God.
Surviving are five sons, Elmer Farris and Joe Adair, both of Glade Spring, Moe Adair of Bristol Virginia, Curtis Adair of Kingsport, Harold Ruetschi Farris of Emory, Va.,; three daughters, Anne Farris of Glade Spring, Freida Adair Harrington of Abingdon, Eleanor "Judy" Farris Velasco of Houston, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Farris Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Gene Little will officiate. Burial will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery in Saltville, Va.
Mrs. Adair was an avid Gardner and an award-winning quilter.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Sue Farris Honaker and Betty Farris Zavala.
Pallbearers will be Rob Crutchfield, Andrew Crutchfield, Herbert Honaker, Jesse Honaker, Tony Rector, Jerry Rhea, Rick Thomas and Justin Adair. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Norris, Ronnie Ratcliff, John Taylor, Steve Thompson and Elmer Farris.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret J. Alford

MAX MEADOWS, Va. -- Margaret Juanita Alford, 50, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late Robert P. and Hattie Wright Richmond.
Surviving are her husband, Clark Eugene Spencer; two daughters, Cindy Tickle of Max Meadows and Rhonda Alford of Wytheville; two sons, Larry Garland of the home and Jonny Garland of Wytheville; four step-daughters, Jeannie Spencer and Jessie Spencer, both of Wytheville, and Stacy Spencer and Randa Spencer, both of Pulaski; two step-sons, David Spencer of Wytheville and Nikki Spencer of Pulaski; three sisters, Ruby Moore and Edna Hess, both of Maryland, and Irene Martin of Woodbridge; three brothers, Jack Scott of Piney, John Scott of Maryland and Emory Scott of Bland County; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville. The Revs. Bill and Penny Dale will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to help with the expense of the funeral or to the American Heart Association, c//o Treasurer Imogene Orfield, P.O. Box 297, Wytheville, VA 24382.

Okie Pierce Atwood

MARION -- Okie Pierce Atwood, 89, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Trivett's Private Christian Home for the Elderly in Chilhowie.
She was a member of the Troutdale Baptist Church and the widow of James T. Atwood.
Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn Rutherford of McDonough, Ga.; two sons, William Atwood and B.J. Atwood, both of Marion; a sister, Mamie Richardson of North Tazewell; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Seaver- Brown Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Troutdale Cemetery at Troutdale.
Among survivors are son-in-law Jack Rutherford of McDonough; daughters-in-law Noni Atwood and Margaret Atwood, both of Marion; sisters-in-law Denton Atwood of Marion and Marie Atwood of Troutdale.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Seaver- Brown Chapel.

Jessie C. Bowman

Funeral services for Jessie M. Campbell Bowman will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Mausoleum Chapel. The Rev. Don McGregor will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mrs. Bowman, 87, of 15346 Skyland Ave., Bristol, Va., died Friday, March 10, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

June Edith Cash

WYTHEVILE -- June Edith Cash, 61, died Monday, March 13, 2000, in Wythe County Community Hospital.
She was born in Bland County, a daughter of the late Wilbur Weeden and Carrie B. McMeans Hancock. She was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are two sisters, Anna M. Hough of Leesburg and Elizabeth F. Collins of Wytheville; 10 brothers, Edwin W. Hancock of Nokesville, Robert K. Hancock of Jacksonville, Fla., Wilbur D. Hancock, Stanley S. Hancock and Garland E. Hancock, all of Tazewell, T. Mitchell Hancock of Severn, Md., Ralph L. Hancock of Dublin, David L. Hancock of Columbus, Ga., Bobby C. Hancock of Pulasi and Jerry L. Hancock of North Tazewell; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville. The Rev. Doug Stuart will officiate. Burial will be in the West End Cemetery.
Mrs. Cash was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles R. Hancock and Mack A. Hancock.
Among survivors are two special nieces, Debbie Lyons of Rural Retreat and Joyce Harper of the home; and two special friends, Sissy and Barbara.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Barnett Funeral Home or at the home at any time or at the home of her sister, Elizabeth Collins, 495 E. Monroe St., Wytheville.

Effie South Clifton

ABINGDON -- Effie South Clifton, 85, of 481 Bradley St. died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Greendale and had lived in Abingdon for 60 years. She was a daughter of the late Lee and Rachel Vance South. She was the widow of Paul Clifton.
The Cliftons operated Clifton's Grocery Store on Hagy St., Abingdon, for 30 years and also Abingdon Manor, Clifton's Hillview and Renaissance House on Bradley Street in Abingdon. She was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church and Mary Martha Sunday School Class.
Survivors include a son, Mac R. Clifton of Abingdon; a daughter, Mrs. James (Beatrice) Jones of Damascus; a brother, Willard "Bill" South of Abingdon; two granddaughters, Mrs. Ken (Reda) Farmer of Damascus and Mrs. Jimmy (Paula) Stewart of Abingdon; a grandson, Roger T. Clifton of Abingdon; four great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Abingdon Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Steven Pollard and the Rev. Lenn Lloyd will officiate. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Knollkreg Memorial Park.
Mrs. Clifton was preceded in death by a brother, R.L. South; three sisters, Nola Kroll, Nina Bond and Edna Hunt.
Among survivors are great-granddaughters Hannah Farmer of Damascus, Amanda Aliff, Samantha Clifton and Taylor Stewart, all of Abingdon; great-grandsons Nathan Farmer of Damascus and Josh Stewart of Abingdon; son-in-law James Jones of Damascus; and daughter-in-law Carol Talley Clifton of Abingdon.
Pallbearers will be Gary South, Ronnie South, Howard Bond, Ronnie Bond, Ken Farmer and Jimmy Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Berry, Marty Berry, John Crigger, Wayne Hayter, Jake Lowe, Charles Grogan, Jack Wilkerson, Sam McCall, Bill Hawkins and B.E. Hayter.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and also following the service Tuesday at Abingdon Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Clifton Memorial Fund, c//o Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 W. Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210.

William F. Cregger Jr.

CERES, Va. -- William Franklin "Billy" Cregger Jr., 65, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at his home.
He was a son of the late William and Bertie Cregger. He was of the Baptist faith and farmed most of his life.
Surviving are two daughters, Geraldine C. "Dump" Hendrick of Bluefield, W.Va., and Christina Nicole Cregger of Marion; a son, William David Cregger of Marion; a sister, Mabel Toms of Roanoke; a brother, Alfred Cregger of Roanoke; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Zion United Methodist Church. The Rev. Larry Patton will officiate. Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Nebo.
Mrs. Cregger was preceded in death by a brother, James Andrew Cregger.
Among survivors are son-in-law Daniel Hendrick of Bluefield, W.Va.; brother-in-law Lynwood Toms of Roanoke; sisters-in-law Mary Cregger of Roanoke and Lou Cregger of Marion; and several aunts and uncles.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church.
