Maggie M. Johnson
POUND -- Maggie Augusta Mullin Johnson, 77, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, in Norton Community Hospital.
She was a daughter of the late James C. Mullins and Delphia Mullins and the widow of Archel Johnson. She was a member of Pound Church of Christ.
Surviving are four daughters, Frances Gilliam and Helen Ward, both of Pound, Trula May Overcash of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Darlene Silvestria of Hialeah, Fla.; a son, A.J.
Johnson of Pasadena, Md.; a brother, Worley Mullins of Pound; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel of Baker Funeral Home. Evangelists Daniel Hollway, David Parker and Everett Moorfield will officiate. Burial will be in Gilliam Cemetery in Pound.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, where a song service will be held at 7 p.m.

Floyd B. Lawrence
SALTVILLE -- Funeral services for Floyd Beattie Lawrence will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Henderson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.
Mr. Lawrence died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Roberts, Dan Roberts, Jim Melenger, F.D. Lawrence, Bill Haynes and Turner Henegar.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home.

William C. Massingill
BLOUNTVILLE -- Funeral services for William C. "Bill" Massingill will be conducted Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Leighton Roberts will officiate. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Marines Lima Company 3//24.
Mr. Massengill, of 518 Shadow Town, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at his home.
He was born in Pennington Gap, Va., a son of Lema Massingill. He was a lifelong resident of the Blountville area, a former employee of Pet Dairy Inc., a retired diesel mechanic with Overnite Transportation and a former Golden Gloves heavyweight champion. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War and a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Barbara Massingill; two daughters, Carol M. Dunn of Candler, N.C., and Terry M. Hoglen of Hendersonville, N.C.; a son, William C. "Bucky" Massingill II of Knoxville; a sister, Virginia C. Rivers of Kingsport; a brother, Bobby Ray "Toby" Massingill of Pennington Gap; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Among survivors are grandchildren Cheryl Dunn, Bobby Dunn, Ginny Dunn and Monica Paul; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Paul and Noah William Dunn.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Tuesday before the service in Weaver Funeral Home.

Edith Counts McCord of 213 Maple Tree Drive, Bristol, Tenn., died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at her home.

Samantha Mullins

Mrs. Mullins, 94, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in Dickenson County Medical Center.

Mr. Rasnake, 77, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.

Jane M. Riner
LEBANON -- Jane Margaret Riner, 76, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in Maple Grove Health Care Center.
She was born in Castlewood, a daughter of the late Alba Evans Riner and Cowan Campbell Riner. She was a 1941 graduate of Temple Hill High School and a retired college professor.
She served in 1942-43 as a secretary for the U.S. Civil Service Commission, and in 1944-46 in the U.S. Navy WAVES as a secretary. After teaching for a year at Temple Hill High School in Castlewood, she returned to the U.S. Navy as a secretary until 1952. She worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence for a year and in 1953 was a teacher at Castlewood High School.
She attended Appalachian State Teachers College (now Appalachian State University) from 1946-49, earning a bachelor of science degree in business education and social studies. She received her masters degree from ASU in 1956 and completed another year of graduate study at the University of Maryland. In 1956, she was a teacher at Appalachian College of Business and served as a college academic adviser. At Appalachian, she was in the N.C. Business Education Association, N.C. Vocational Association, National Business Education Association and American Vocational Association. She worked with the Educational Development Committee, College of Business Affirmative Action Committee, College of Business Curriculum Committee and College of Business Scholarship Committee. She was on the College of Business Dean's Advisory Council and General College Advisory Service. She retired in 1980 after 24 years of service to the University. She was a member of Fort Gibson United Methodist Church in Castlewood.
Surviving are two sisters, Frances Kiser and Mary Shoemaker, both of Castlewood; a niece, Jane Glovier of Cleveland, Va.; a nephew, Gail Kiser of Bristol Virginia; three great-nieces; a great-nephew; two great-great-nephews; and a great-great-niece.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Lewis Weaver and Ernest Jessee will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. military rites will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. by Patton Crosswhite VFW Post 6975. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Campbell, Charles Kiser Jr., Jim Kiser, Tom "Tuck" Bradley, Jack Kiser, Billy Joe Kiser and Henry Counts. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Kiser, Jorge Figueiras, Allen Combs and Ronnie Wyrick.

Avin Rose
CLINTWOOD -- Avin Rose, 77, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at his home.
He was a son of the late Francis Llear Fuller and Stonewall Jackson Rose. He was a retired coal miner, a member of UMWA Local 7170 and a member and deacon of Lick Creek Primitive Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Exie Turner Rose; six daughters, Rita Jean Tyler of Madison Heights, Mich., Patsy Lou Hill and Betty Sue Hill;, both of Clintwood, Donna Piche of Bloomfield, Mich., Pamela Faye Rose of Birchleaf, Va., and Jacqueline Wright of Springfield, Va.; a son, Jerry Wayne Rose of Clintwood; a brother, Albert Rose of Clintwood; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Lick Creek Primitive Baptist Church by Haysi Funeral Home. Elders Shirley Henry, Bob Mayhorn and Joel Turner will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery, Hillridge Route 1, Clintwood, with military graveside rites by Dickenson County VFW Post 8979 and DAV Chapter 35.

Suda Melissa Rosenbalm, 81, of 409 Sinking Springs Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, in Greystone Health Care Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, a daughter of the late William and Martha Rosenbalm and a member of Landmark Mission Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are two brothers, Caleb Rosenbalm of Bristol Tennessee and Byrd Rosenbalm of Blountville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mike Abel will officiate. Burial will be in Beidleman Church Cemetery. The Rev. Billy Rosenbalm will officiate.
