Marilyn R. Faison, 64, of Richmond, died Thursday, July 5, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Frank A. Faison; her children, Larry, David, Beth and Trish; four grandchildren, Jimmy, William, Stephanie and Kristina; and an aunt, June Dunbar. Mrs. Faison was a volunteer at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens and a member of the First Unitarian Church on Blanton Ave. Her family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday. Elma Emmerson Forloine of Richmond, widow of Richard E. (Dickie) Forloine Jr., died July 7, 2001. She is survived by one sister, Eva E. Stone; one nephew, Thomas W. Stone; two nieces, Betty Andersen and Claiborne Snead; devoted friends, Anne
Foster and Elva Lyons. She was a member of New Convenant Presbyterian Church, Scottish Rite Women's Club, ACCA Temple Chantettes. Doris S. Fox, 72, of Colonial Heights, died Sunday, July 8, 2001 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. She was a native of Richmond, daughter of the late Peter A. and Margaret Stahl Seay. She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where she had taught in the nursery for over 20 years, and she also volunteered as a library aid at North Elementary School. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Leonard W. "Buddy" Fox Jr.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary W. Fox and wife, Sharon of Chester, Larry J. Fox and wife, Tamera of Concord, N.C., and Douglas A. Fox and wife, Kathleen of Chesterfield; a brother, Alfred R. Seay of Richmond; an aunt, Ellen Stahl of Richmond; and her grandchildren which she dearly loved, Jonathan W. Fox, Allison K. Fox, Savanna L. Fox, Kendel A. Fox, Nicole D. Fox, Christian J. Fox and Reilly M. Fox. She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Kaitlyn C. Fox. Other survivors include sisters-in-law, Virginia Matthews of Richmond, Mildred Burrows of Durham, N.C., and Margaret Gibson and husband, Charles of Mechanicsville. The family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday evening at E. Ellyson T. (Sam) Goodman, 91, of Mechanicsville, died Saturday, July 7, 2001 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor G. (Rusty) Childress and his wife, Pam; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Collins Goodman. Charles Randolph Kennon Jr., son of Helen Finney and Charles R. Kennon Sr., died on Sunday, July 8, 2001 at the age of 90 at his ancestral home, Norwood in Powhatan County, Virginia, where he was born on July 1, 1911. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lipscomb Kennon; and his son, Charles R. Kennon III. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth K. Shuey, Constance K. Harriss and Mary K. McDaniel; 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth Mundin Coleman, Margaret Mundin McElroy, Lewis Howard Mundin IV, John Russell
Williams IV, Arthur Wideman Harrison III, Charles Kennon Harrison Sr., Mary McDaniel Ziletti, Peter Randolph McDaniel, Anne McDaniel Pollard and Beverley Kennon Payne; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, William Upshur Kennon; and his first cousin, William Gilliam Kennon Jr. He was also predeceased by one sister, Constance Kennon Laird; and one brother, Richard Randolph Kennon Sr. He was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where he served for many years on the vestry as a junior and senior warden. He served his beloved Powhatan County as a member and chairman of the School Board and as a member of the Industrial Development Commission. His farming expertise was invaluable to the Board of the Atlantic Rural Exposition on which he served for years. He was a founding and faithful member of the Fine Creek Men's Club. He was an alumnus of St. Christopher's School in the class of 1931 and attended the University of Virginia where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. A funeral service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Wednesday, July 11 at 11 a.m. with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. LaGOW
Louise Childrey LaGow, passed away July 7, 2001 at age 82, after a long illness. She was the widow of Homer V. LaGow, and a resident at The Hermitage Nursing Home at the time of her death. Mrs. LaGow retired from the Commonwealth of Virginia, Division of Legislative Services in 1984. She was honored by the members of the Virginia General Assembly upon her retirement for her 25 years of faithful and cheerful service. She received an award as the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year at The Virginia Home in 1990, and will long be remembered for her kindness and caregiving to the residents and to her family. She is survived by her two children, J. Christopher LaGow, a local attorney, and Anne DeGraffenreid LaGow, a psychiatric social worker with the Medical College of Virginia; by her loving and devoted sister, Caroline C. Crenshaw of Richmond; and two brothers, Frank W. Childrey of Richmond, and John S. Childrey of Mineral, Va.; and three grandchildren, Michelle A. Morouse of Kauii, Hawaii, Elizabeth Childrey LaGow and Caroline Christopher LaGow, both of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., Monday, July 9, 2001 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 520 N. Minnie (Mindy) R. Lichtenstein passed away July 8, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Werner Lichtenstein; daughters, Roni Polisar and Julie Prusky; stepdaughters, Susan Hernandez, Tracey DeWeese, Julie Blank; a brother, Harold Roberts; grandchildren, Evan and Sierra Polisar, Asher Prusky, Michelle and David Hernandez, Allison and Jeremy Kuehn, Jamie Blank. MILLER
Gretchen Culver Miller, 96, of Westminster-Canterbury Richmond, passed away July 5, 2001. Born March 10, 1905 in Luzerne County, Pa. to David Owen Culver an Strella Brunges Culver, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Fremont Miller; and her daughter, Sarah Lee Miller Savage. She graduated in 1925 from Bloomsburg Normal School (now Bloomsburg University), Bloomsburg, Pa. She taught school in Pennsylvania before raising a family and moving to Richmond. In 1952 she resumed her teaching career at Battlefield Park Elementary School in Hanover County. She transferred to Henrico County and taught sixth grade at Crestview Elementary, and for many years, until her retirement, at Jackson-Davis. She was elected and served as President of the Henrico County Education Association from 1958 to 1960. Following her retirement in 1971, she remained active and enjoyed traveling in Europe and the Orient. She spent many years as a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital and later enjoyed helping out in the child care center at Westminster-Canterbury. She was a devoted member of Three Chopt Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two sons, Clinton Fremont Miller Jr. of Richmond and Stephen Howard Miller of Mila; and by two daughters, Barbara Miller Sirles and Susan Miller Mountcastle of Richmond; 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Three Chopt Presbyterian Church, 9315 Three Chopt Road on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with burial following at Westhampton Memorial Park. Peter D. (Pete) O'Brien, 77, of Ashland, the widower of Mildred D. O'Brien, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2001. He is survived by his son, Mark E. and his wife, Joyce O'Brien of Sandston; a brother, Pat O'Brien of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Katie and Kevin O'Brien. James D. Phillips, 74, formerly of Charlottesville, Va., passed away July 7, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gladys M. Phillips; two sons, Mike (Paula) and Tim (Kathryn) Phillips; four grandchildren, James, Daniel, Michael and Michelle. Mr. Phillips was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and retired in 1989 after 38 years with Dominion Virginia Power. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. July 9 at the Teague Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. July 10 at the funeral chapel. Dr. Charles Russell Riley, 83, of Richmond, died July 7, 2001 at home. He was a longtime member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church. He served in WW II as a Battalion Surgeon, and then returned to serve this community in many capacities, including 1st Chief of Surgery at St. Mary's Hospital and later as Chief of Staff, staff member of Retreat and Richmond Memorial Hospitals; Assoc. Professor of Anatomy at MCV and assisted with resident training. As a graduate of Notre Dame University, he was a founding member of the local Notre Dame Club. He also served on the boards of St. Gertrudes High School and Benedictine High School. He retired in 1987. He is survived by his wife, Eunice S. Riley; his 11 children, Susan, Sarah, Charlie, Henry, Ellen, Nora, John, Emily, William, Kelly and Mary; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia R. McGann of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Rebecca R. Gorman of Franktown, Va. Remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a Rosary to be said at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bridget's Catholic Church.
