Annie F. Pendleton
The funeral for Annie Fain Pendleton, 87, of Stuart, who died Aug. 14, 2004, was held Monday at Community Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Donnie Conner and the Rev. Gary Combs officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Glenn Handy, Hassel Handy, Junior Pendleton, Junior Hughes, Ricky Fain and Brian Fain.
Moody Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Melvin V. Travis
The funeral for Melvin V. Travis, 87, of San Diego, Calif., and formerly of Martinsville, who died Aug. 8, 2004, was held Monday at Hairston Funeral Home in Martinsville. The Rev. William C. Randolph officiated and burial was in Carver Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Apostle Ward, Mordecai Travis, Jesse Mitchell, Roy Via, Lewis Martin, Alvin Jamison and Tony Hairston.
Virginia C. Bell
A graveside service for Virginia Katherine Cathcart Bell, 90, of Martinsville, who died Aug. 15, 2004, was held Wednesday at Roselawn Burial Park. The Rev. Curtis Ashley officiated.
Pallbearers were Owen Byrd, Wayne Byrd, Dickie Byrd, Jay Byrd, Billy Byrd, Phillip Byrd and Josh Byrd.
Arrangements were by Norris Funeral Services and Crematory.
Ray F. Bocock
The funeral for Ray F. Bocock, 74, of 1018 Morningside Lane, Martinsville, who died Aug. 17, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park with military honors by the Martinsville and Henry County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born in Henry County on April 30, 1930, to Peter F. Bocock and Mary Campbell Bocock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Ferguson and Ernestine Bocock.
He retired from DuPont after 35 years and served with the Army for two years during the Korean conflict, earning the rank of master sergeant.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Barbara E. Bocock of the home; son, Kenneth Ray Bocock, also of the home; daughter, Kathy B. Divers of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three sisters, Edna Campbell, Evelyn Belcher and Nancy Epling, all of Martinsville; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lula T. Hairston
Lula Belle Thomas Hairston, 75, of 516 Chatmoss Court, Martinsville, died Aug. 18, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in the Stella community of Patrick County on May 22, 1929, to Patrick Thomas and Harriett Welch Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hairston; three brothers, Willie Thomas, Howard Thomas and Junior Thomas; and two sisters, Elizabeth Fundburk and Roxie Thomas Hodge.
A resident of Martinsville most of her life, she was a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church where she was a steward and a member of the Missionary. She retired from Stanley Furniture after 20 years.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Ephriam Cabiness of the home; two sons, Dr. Patrick Ephriam of the home and Earnest Ephriam of Martinsville; one sister, Harriett Lynch of Martinsville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Greater International Pentecostal Holiness Church on Carver Road with the Rev. Reuben Boyd and Bishop A.D. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Thomas family cemetery at Stella.
The family will receive friends at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church from 7-8 p.m. Saturday and other times at the home.

George T. Martin
The funeral for George Thomas ÒTomÓ Martin, 70, of Martinsville, who died Aug. 15, 2004, was held Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services with Pastor Tim Satterfield officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Burial Park with military honors by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The flag presentation was made by Army Sgt. 1st Class Jude Holman and Sgt. Wanda Morgan.
Pallbearers were Dudley Parcell, Jason Parcell, Rocky Wall, Nelson Martin, Goat Brown, Dale Gardner, Kenny Shultz and Bill Franklin.
Irene S. Maurakis
RALEIGH, N.C. Ñ Irene Shevos Maurakis, 66, of 3833-C Club Plaza Road, Raleigh, died Wednesday at Laurels of Forest Glenn in Garner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Angela Maurakis, with whom she lived in Martinsville, Va., for several years.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville.
Surviving are daughter, Evelyn Seabold of Apex; sons, Jimmy Maurakis of Raleigh and Louie Maurakis of Cary; brother, George Shevos Jr. of Raleigh; sisters, Barbara Scott, Linda Turner and Carol Shevos of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

Douglas G. Moxley
The funeral for Douglas Gordon Moxley, 84, of Axton, who died Aug. 15, 2004, was held Wednesday at Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Gary Robertson officiating. Entombment was at Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Ricky Gauldin, Danny Gauldin, Mark Gravely, J.W. Gravely, Jamie Moxley, Barry Moxley, David Gauldin, Cory Moxley and Brandon Moxley.

Enoch W. Potter Jr.
A graveside service for Enoch Wesley Potter Jr., 81, of Briar Ridge Road, Henry, who died Aug. 17, 2004, at the Veterans Medical Center in Salem, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Steve Tilley officiating. military honors will be performed by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Services in Bassett and other times at the home of his caretaker, Elliston ÒJakeÓ Jacobs, 485 Briar Ridge Road, Henry.
Potter was born on Sept. 8, 1922, in Windingulf, W.Va., to Enoch Wesley and Annie F. Ramsey Potter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Potter; brother, Elmer W. Potter; and his longtime caregiver, Elizabeth Mason.
He served in the Army during World War II with the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment. He worked in the coal mines in West Virginia for many years before his retirement and was of the Baptist faith.
He has no immediate survivors.
Donna Riggs-Moyer
Donna Duncan Riggs-Moyer, 45, of 1604 Spruce Street Ext., Martinsville, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at her residence.
She was born in Biloxi, Miss., on Feb. 21, 1959, to Dewey Clayton Duncan Jr. of Martinsville and Mavis F. Greenfield, of London, England.
She was employed at AllenÕs Beauty Center and was of the Christian faith.
In addition to her parents, surviving are her husband, Howard L. Moyer Jr. of the home; a daughter, Melany Stowe of Martinsville; three sons, Nathan Reeves, Davy Riggs and Jamie Riggs, all of Martinsville; one sister, Linda Sexton of Martinsville; and two brothers, Daniel Duncan of Louisa and David Duncan of London.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel at Norris Funeral Services and Crematory. The Rev. Ron Mateer will officiate.
The family will meet with friends for an hour before the service Friday at the funeral home.
