She was a member of Amis Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was the widow of Cecil Lee.

Winegar of Blountville; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Wagner and Sharlene Lee, both of Surgoinsville; a brother, James Armstrong of Kingsport; two sisters, Sara Alice Barrett of Surgoinsville, and Nancy Rhoney of Vale, N.C.; a half-sister, Alva Persinger of Morristown; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

BIG STONE GAP -- Mary Livingston, 87, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
She was a native of Wise County, had lived in Big Stone Gap for over 60 years, and was a long-time member of the West End Baptist Church.
She was the widow of John Livingston.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Carl (Marcella) George of Kettering, Ohio, Mrs. Bill (Wilma) Nein of Miamisburg, Ohio, Mrs. Earl (Clarice) Groseclose of Lakeland, Fla., and Mrs. Jimmie (Nancy) Kilgore of Big Stone Gap; two sons, Charles Livingston of Lakeland, and Johnny Livingston of Gloucester, Va.; three sisters, Bess Bray of Bristol Virginia, Georgia
Johnson of Knoxville, and Barbara Newton of Vandalia, Ohio; a brother, Harold
Smith of Blacksheer Ga.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Johnson CITY -- Harriett Harkrader London, 89, of the Village Tower on Christian Lane, died Friday, March 5, 1999, in
Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.
She was a native of Bristol Tennessee and the daughter of the late Charles J. Harkrader and Louise Moorman Harkrader who founded the /{Bristol Herald Courier/} and the /{
Johnson City Press/}.
She was a member of the Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and was active in Munsey's Hobby Lobby. She was a member of the Dilettante.
Mrs. London was the widow of Robert P. London.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Susan Riser of Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Louise Latture of Greensboro, N.C.; a granddaughter, Harriett Jameson Riser of Seattle; a grandson, Robert Carleton Riser of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.

POUND -- Ola Maggard, 69, died Friday, March 5, 1999, in Norton Community Hospital.
She was of the Baptist faith and the widow of Roy Maggard.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Hunsucker of Norton, and Gwen Maggard of Pound; two sisters, Gay Moore of Axton, Va., and Elvia Vanover of Pound; two brothers, Hassel "Jr." Phillips of Pound, and Elmer Phillips of Front Royal, Va.; and two grandchildren.

CHILHOWIE -- Troy Fonzo Peak, 71, died Friday, March 5, 1999, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
He was a retired employee of the Norfolk & Western Railroad, a U.S. Navy veteran, and an organ donor. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Keesee Peak; a son, Michael Peak of Chilhowie; a daughter, Bonnie Peak of Chilhowie; two brothers, Mr. Peak's twin Clarence Peak of Seven Mile Ford, Va., and Joe Peak of Chuckey, Tenn.; a half-brother, Robert Peak of Floyd, Va.; a sister, Mary Tate of Stafford, Va.; and a half-sister, Mildred Blevins of Chilhowie.

WISE -- Jessie D. Powers, 70, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital in Norton.
He was of the Freewill Baptist faith, and was retired from Dresser Industries in Marion, Ohio where he was employed as a welder He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

ABINGDON -- George "G.T." Scott, 55, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He had lived most of his life in Washington County.
Survivors include his wife, Lena S. Scott; a son, Tom Scott of Abingdon; a daughter, Elizabeth Rolen of Abingdon; three brothers, Ernest Scott, Tim Scott and Roy Scott, all of Abingdon; three sisters, Ruth Flanary of Big Stone Gap, Mary Toon of Bristol Virginia, and Charlotte Scott of Abingdon; a granddaughter; and a niece.

Ruth V. Sturgill
WISE -- Ruth V. Owens Sturgill, 88, died Friday, March 5, 1999.
She was a lifelong resident of the Norton-Wise area, most recently at Heritage Hall in Wise for the past four years.
She was a homemaker, a member of Southern Baptist faith, and the widow of George P. Sturgill.
Survivors include a son, Donald P. Sturgill of Wise; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Claudia Sutherland
DANTE -- Claudia Ann Baker Sutherland, 50, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center in Kingsport.
She was a native of Dorchester, Va., grew up in Nickelsville, and had lived in Dante for the past 24 years.
She was a 1967 graduate of Nickelsville High School and attended Clinch Valley College. She was a substitute teacher in Russell County School System, and a teacher in the Head Start Program in Scott County.
Survivors include her husband, Carl "Sonny" Sutherland Jr.; a daughter, Callie Sutherland of Dante; a son, Chris Sutherland of Dante; a sister, Janice Collins of Nickelsville; her paternal grandmother, Clara Austin Baker of Wise; and several nieces and nephews.

NORTON -- Silas J. Thompson, 65, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at the home of his daughter in North Tazewell, Va.
He was a native of Norton and had lived in Chicago for over 20 years, returning to the Norton area after his retirement.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
