She was a native of Washington County, Va., a graduate of Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, Va., and retired from Kingsport Press, Kingsport.
She was a member of Gate City Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Banner; a son, Phillip Shaun Banner, Southampton, N.J.; two sisters, Dorothy Leonard, Abingdon, and Nancy Tate, Bland; a granddaughter, Sarah Katelyn Banner; a grandson, John William Banner; and several nieces and nephews.

BLUFF CITY -- Achilleas Georgiou, 43, of 235 Hamilton Hill Road, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998.
He was a native of Larnaca, Cyprus, had lived in the Bristol area for 22 years, was a well-known businessman in the area and a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Georgiou; a daughter, Diana Georgiou of the home; a son, Ted Georgiou of the home; a brother, George Georgiou, Nashville; a sister, Helen Christofidou, Nicosia, Cyprus; a sister, Anna Georgiou, Larnaca, Cyprus; his stepmother, Stauroulla Georgiou, Larnaca, Cyprus; and two nieces.

MORGANTON, N.C. -- Phyllis Nadine Street, 50, formerly of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, in Morganton.
She was a native of Pike County, Ky., had spent her early life in Buchanan County and moved to Morganton four years ago from White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
She was a homemaker and the widow of James W. Street.
Survivors include three daughters, Pam Riffle, High Point, N.C., Donna Walton, Valdese, N.C., and Debbie Brooks, Covington, Va.; two sisters; four brothers; and six grandchildren.

COEBURN -- Jack Richard Wells, 58, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, in Norton Community Hospital, Norton.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was of the Protestant faith.

She was a native of Tazewell County and was retired from Acme Supermarkets in Tazewell after 30 years of service.
She was a member of Adria Advent Christian Church, Adria, Va.
She was the widow of William O. Johnson.
Survivors include a daughter, Libby Scott, Abingdon, (with whom she made her home) and a granddaughter, Mary Ann Riffe, Abingdon; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

BLOUNTVILLE -- Martha Belle Whiteman Taylor, 75, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert F. Taylor, a daughter, Patti Towner, Blountville; a son, Herbert Taylor Jr., Blountville; three sisters, Ethel Rodefer and Ida Mae Dunn, both of Blountville, and Grace Gobble, Bluff City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was an employee of the U.S. Gypsum Company.

GRUNDY -- Alex H. Arrington, 101, of Walnut Street, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Buchanan County, had been a resident of Grundy most of his life and was a member of Buchanan First Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of Sandy Valley Lodge No. 17 AF&AM of Grundy for 72 years and a member of the Kazim Temple, in Roanoke.
Mr. Arrington was a retired merchant in the Grundy area and was preceded in death by his wife, Vertie Owens Arrington.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Trivett, Grundy; a grandson, Harold Terry Trivett, Grundy; and two great-grandsons.
