ABINGDON -- Elizabeth Eden Saul, 93, of 334 East Valley St., died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Wyndale, Va., and had lived in Abingdon for the past 60 years.
She was a graduate of Radford Teachers College, taught school in Needmore School, Wyndale, Va., Craig's Mill School, on
Smith Creek, and at the West Bristol School, in Bristol Virginia.
Mrs. Saul was a member of the Wyndale United Methodist Church and the widow of Carl Grant Saul.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Saul, Abingdon, and Mae Cox, Blountville; a son, Lee Saul, Abingdon; four grandchildren, Michael Lee Saul, Abingdon, Tim Cox, Bristol Tennessee, Pam Brewster, Kingsport, and Nathan Cox, Blountville; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

ABINGDON -- Nathan Daniel Smith, 17, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was a native of Tazewell and a member of the senior class at Abingdon High School. He was employed with Abingdon Food City.

George Allen St. John, 85, of 319 Cherokee Road, Bristol, Va., died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Woodbry, Tenn., and had lived in
Johnson City before moving to Bristol in 1963.
He was a former employee of Monroe Calculating Company, a retired employee of Electrolux and attended Westhighlands Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hopkins St. John; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Jan) Walker, Bristol Virginia, and Mrs. Perry (Kathy) Poston, Bristol Tennessee; a son, Dion St. John, Bristol Virginia; a stepdaughter, Linda Quesenberry, Blacksburg, Va.; a stepson, Stephen Hare, Pulaski; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

CLIFFIELD, Va. -- Mr. Jay Albert Taylor, 92, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, in a Tazewell hospital.
He was a native of Tazewell, had lived in Rosedale, Va., and North Tazewell, Va., making his home with his son and daughter-in-law four years ago.
He was a retired farmer and was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Lee Tolliver Taylor.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Archie (Alma) Whited and Mrs. Dallas (Linda) Hess, both of Honaker; four sons, Dan Taylor, Cliffield, Jack Taylor, Lebanon, Danny Taylor, Honaker, and Jess Taylor, Baptist Valley, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Effie Whited, Galion, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandson.

APPALACHIA -- James Morton Bowen, 63, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at his home.
He was a member of the UMWA and was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Bowen; two sons, Jeff Bowen, Chapel Hill, N.C., and Sam Bowen, Appalachia; three daughters, Ruth Beason, Church Hill, Tenn., Jena Sturgill, Duffield, Va., and Pam Castle, Kingsport; 17 brothers and sisters; and seven grandchildren.

Blanche E. Clark, 75, of Bristol Tennessee, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, in Wellmont Hospice House.
She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, a homemaker and a member of Cross United Methodist Church.
She was the widow of Arthur Clark.
Survivors include two sons, Cecil C. Clark and Jerry W. Clark Sr., both of Bristol; two sisters, Bessie Kendrick, Bristol, and Hassie Coffey, Kingsport; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

LOCUST GROVE, Va. -- Mrs. Dorothy M. Alley Clark, 80, formerly of Richlands, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, in a Fredericksburg, Va., hospital.

Mrs. Grace Ramey Cron, 84, of Bristol Virginia, formerly of Leisure Park Towers, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at her home.
She had lived most of her life in Elkhorn City, Ky., before moving to Bristol 20 years ago. She was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sons, James D. Ramey, Chippawa Lake, Ohio, and Bruce B. Ramey, Wooster, Ohio; three daughters, Betty Deel, Bristol Virginia, Rosemary Bowman, Frenchburg, Ky., and Donna Marie Hylton, Elkhorn City, Ky.; 25 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a step-great-great-grandchild.

LEBANON -- Mrs. Eula Kate Garrett, 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Russell County, a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church and the widow of Woodrow Garrett.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Cox and Kathy "Bud" Garrett, both of Lebanon; four sons, Kenneth L. Garrett, Harold O. Garrett, Roger A. Garrett and Gary M. Garrett, all of Lebanon; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Dean H. Herald
ABINGDON -- Mr. Dean H. Herald, 69, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, residing in the Brumley Gap community. He was a member of the Chestnut Grove Community Church, where he served in the choir.
He was a member of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Board and the Virginia Tobacco Council. He was employed for 50 years with Cozart Tobacco Warehouses and retired as floor manager. He was also employed as a fertilizer dealer with Lebanon Chemical Company for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Reynolds Herald; two daughters, Mrs. Jackie (Tracey) Reynolds, Abingdon, and Mrs. Jeffrey (Rebecca) VanDyke, Simpsonville, S.C.; a brother, Paul Dempsey Herald, Knoxville; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Jean) Price and Mrs. William (Linda) Reynolds; three grandchildren; 15 nieces; and 17 nephews.
