Fred Haga
DAMASCUS -- Fred Haga, 78, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in Cedar Lawn Convalescent Home, Abingdon.
He was a native of Smyth County and had lived in Damascus most of his life.
He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II and received the Purple Heart while in service.
He was a member of the VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post No. 6975 and of the Disabled American Veterans.
He had attended the Damascus Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Irene Rutledge Haga.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Allen (Penny) Ezell, Damascus; two sons, Glen E. Haga, Damascus, and Bill F. Haga, Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Martha Dolinger and Ruth Bowman, both of Chilhowie; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Otis B. Kelly Jr.
ERIN, Tenn. -- Otis Beverley Kelly Jr., 59, of Route 2, died Jan. 18, 1999, in Clarksville Memorial Hospital, Clarksville, Tenn.
He was a native of McRoberts, Ky., and a home builder. He was former owner of Kelly TV Repair and Kelly Restaurant.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietname War, and a
Green Beret with 1st Special Forces.
He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and former mayor of the city of Tennessee Ridge, Tenn.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Griffey Kelly; three sons, Otis B. Kelly III, Tennessee Ridge, Mike McGinnis, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Jerry McGinnis, Clarksville, Tenn.; a daughter, Kathy Powell, Erin; his mother, Claire Coleman Kelly, Pikeville, Ky., three sisters, Sue Bentley and Lona Casebolt, both of Pikeville, and Verva Kelly, Tampa, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday in Erin.

Eugene P. Porter
CARY, N.C. -- Eugene Paul Porter, 65, of 531 E. Cornwall Street, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999 at his home.
He was a native of Scott County, Va., and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in the Korean War.
He was a supervisor with Delta Airlines for over 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Dingus Porter.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. James (Pamela Porter) Appleton and Renee Elizabeth Porter, both of Cary; and a son, Jeffrey Paul Porter.

Corrine C. Puckett
CLEVELAND, Va. -- Corrine Couch Puckett, 71, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Russell County and a member of the Ivy Ridge Chapel Church.
Survivors include her husband, Edison Puckett; a daughter, Vickie Cole, Lebanon; five sons, Lee Puckett, Abingdon, Dwayne Puckett, St. Paul, Lewis Puckett, Honaker, Vincent Puckett and Patrick Puckett, both of Brandywine, W.Va.; four sisters, Irene Kiser and Ester Stamper, both of Cleveland, Va., Charlotte Haelig, Canoga, Calif., and Ann Mullins, Blanchard, Okla.; a brother, Paul Couch, Buckingham, Va.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Vicie Pearl Robins, 85, 524 Terry Drive, Bristol, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Clifton, Va., and had lived most of her life in the Bristol area.
She was a homemaker and was of the Holiness faith.
She was the widow of Paul Robins Sr.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. James (Peggy) Grogan and Mrs. Larry (Linda) Bowers, both of Bristol Virginia, Mrs. Ronnie (Barbara) DeFriece, Bristol Tennessee, and Jean Patrick, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; two sons, Paul Robins Jr., Bristol Virginia, and Glen Taylor, Honaker; a sister, Effie Whited, Galion, Ohio; a brother, Jay Taylor, Cliffield, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a step-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

ABINGDON -- Louis Dexter Smith, 72, of 24116 Cox Mill Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at his home.
He was a lifelong resident of Abingdon and a member of Denton Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Abingdon.
Survivors include his wife, Susie Louise Smith; two daughters, Janet Marie Snapp, Kingsport, and Jeannine Holman, Abingdon; three sisters, Nettie Montgomery and Bessie Musick, both of Abingdon, and Texas Hill, Bristol Tennessee; a brother, Clay Smith, Bristol Tennessee; three grandsons; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

BANDY, Va. -- William "Bill" Steele Sr., 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, in a Richlands hospital.
He was a native of War, W.Va., and a member of the Bandy Chapel Church.
He was a retired coal miner, a retired merchant and a Texaco service station operator.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pansy Bandy Steele; three sons, Buddy R. Steele, Potomac, Md., Douglas Steele and Jim R. Steele, both of Cedar Bluff; four daughters, Mrs. Shirley Rust, Mansfield, Ohio, Mrs. Peggy Hawthorne, Jonesboro, Ark., Mrs. Katye Farmer and Mrs. Bonnie Neimi, both of Cedar Bluff; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

GLADE SPRING -- Charles Edward Talbert, 93, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
He was a retired miner with U.S. Gypsum and was of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include his wife, Maxie O'Quinn Talbert; three sons, Glen Talbert, Houma, La., Eddie Lee Talbert and Wayne Talbert, both of Glade Spring two daughters, Lorraine Talbert, Nutley, N.J., and Linda Darlene Banks, Glade Spring; three sisters, Etta Mae Wilcox and Ida Belle Casey, both of Meadowview, Va., Leota Maloyd, Aberdeen, Md.; seven grandchildren; eight grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

SUGAR GROVE, Va. -- Gloria Ruth Ward, 38, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at her home.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony Briscoe, Marion, and Jerry Lee Ward Jr., Sugar Grove; two brothers; a sister; and a granddaughter.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Slemp Cemetery, Sugar Grove.

Layman Clarence Webb, 59, of Bristol Tennessee, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Berwind, W.Va., and had lived in the Bristol area most of his life.
He was a retired U.S. Army veteran serving two tours of duty in Vietnam.
He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberely Hayes, Bristol Tennessee; a son, Layman Christopher Webb, Atlanta, Ga.; his mother, Blanche Webb, Bristol Tennessee; a brother, Harvey James Webb, Bristol Virginia; and six grandchildren.
