Claude Buckles Jr.
CASTLEWOOD -- Claude "Bud" Buckles Jr., 71, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Kingsport.
He was a native of Russell County, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a retired miner and a member of UMWA.
Mr. Buckles was owner and operator of Buckles Truck Company and was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Salyers Buckles.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Hileman, Castlewood; four sons, Buddy Buckles, Castlewood, Greg Buckles, Bristol Virginia, Lynn Buckles, Kennesaw, Ga., and Lee "Pee Wee" Buckles, Woodstock, Ga.; a sister, Virginia Buckles, Abingdon; two brothers, Fred Buckles, Castlewood, and Bill Buckles, Bluefield, Va.; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Ethel M. Caudill
STONEGA, Va. -- Ethel Maude Caudill, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, in Norton Community Hospital.
She had lived most of her life in Exeter, was of the Pentecostal faith and the widow of Walker Caudill.
Survivors include five nephews; and four nieces.

Sparrell Childress Jr.
Sparrell "Buck" Childress Jr., 83, of 400 Shelby St., Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Leemaster, Va., had lived in Mississippi and Grundy before moving to the Bristol area, where he made his home since 1971.
Mr. Childress was a retired coal miner and was employed with Phipps Exxon Service Station. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of AA.
Survivors include a sister, Gertie May Armes, Leemaster; a brother, Andy G. Childress, Banner, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth K. Crawford
Elizabeth Kay Crawford, 89, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area, a former employee of Bristol Tennessee School System, a member of Virginia Avenue Baptist Church and the widow of Claude Crawford.
Survivors include a son, Ronald David Crawford; two grandchildren, Sandy Jane Weigand and Ronald David Crawford Jr.; and two great-grandsons.

COEBURN -- Cindy Michelle Holbrook, 21, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital, Norton.
She was a graduate of Coeburn High School.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Lavon Fleming Greear and David Greear, Coeburn; a sister, Stacy Holbrook, Big Stone Gap; her grandparents, Hank and Nora Fleming, Coeburn; five uncles and aunts; a niece; and several cousins.

Bruce L. Jackson
NORTON -- Bruce Leon "Arvil" Jackson, 64, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Norton Community Hospital.
He was formerly a resident of Anderson, Ind., where he retired in 1990 from General Motors after 24 years of service.
He was an ordained minister in the Freewill Baptist Church and pastored several congregations in the Anderson area in the 1960s and 1970s.
Survivors include his wife, Doris J. Jackson; five daughters, Terri Hart, Beth Begley and Sharon York, all of Anderson, Michelle Wooten, Eastridge, Tenn., and Kay F. Carmack, Pendleton, Ind.; three sons, Richard Bruce Jackson, Chatsworth, Ga., James Robert McCoy and David Wayne McCoy, both of Anderson; a brother, Bernice Jackson, Cuttler, Ind.; two sisters, Clara Bell Hamilton and Shirley Potter, both of Norton; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

PONTE VERDA BEACH, Fla. -- Mrs. Lucile Hayworth Kendall, 86, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Beaches Baptist Hospital, Florida.
She was a native of Bristol Virginia, leaving in 1933. She had lived many places in the United States including Union City, Ind.; Cresson, Altoona and Erie, Pa., Wilmington, Del., Wilmington, N.C., Erwin, Tenn., Louisville and Prospect, Ky., and Ponte Verda Beach.
She was the widow of William H. Kendall and grew up in State Street United Methodist Church, Bristol Virginia. She was a member of Beach United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Fla., and The St. Paul United Methodist Church, Louisville, Ky.
She was a member of the Tower Society, Wesley House and Volunteers Lighthouse for the Blind, Louisville, Ky.
She was a graduate of Virginia High School, attended Virginia Intermont College for two years and received her bachelor's degree from Brenau College, where she was on the Board of Trustees and is a trustee Emeritus. She attended George Washington University Graduate School.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Roberta Kendall, Seattle; a son, William Thomas Kendall, Roswell, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Marianne H. Post, Bristol Virginia; a granddaughter; four grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Anna L. Love, 82, of Bristol Tennessee, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Wellmont Hospice House.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a housewife. She was the widow of Randall Farris Love.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Betty Love) Booher, Bristol Tennessee; a son, David L. Love, Miami; a sister, Edna Love, Bristol Tennessee; a brother, Edward W. Love Jr., Roanoke; a granddaughter; and three great-grandsons.

Albert M. Lunter
STUART, Fla. -- Albert Martin Lunter, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Clarksburg, W.Va., had been a resident of Stuart since 1985, having moved from Abingdon.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Texaco in the Virginia and West Virginia areas for 35 years.
Mr. Lunter was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, a member of the First United Methodist Church, Stuart, and a former member of Hobe Sound Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Lunter; a son, David Lunter, Lorton, Va.; a stepson, Michael Casteel, Richmond; a stepdaughter, Donna C. Miller, Huntersville, N.C.; and a grandson.
A memorial service will be held Monday in Florida.

CLINCHPORT, Va. -- Kenny Meade (Kenneth Martin Salyers), 34, formerly of Pound, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at his home.
Survivors include his foster parents, Kenneth and Shirley Meade, Pound; a sister, Connie L. Estep, Coeburn; three brothers, Kenneth D. Meade, Farmville, Va., Kevin Meade, Bristol Virginia, and Kyle Salyers, Coeburn.

Evelyn O. Milam
KNOXVILLE -- Mrs. Evelyn Osborne Milam died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in NHC Fort Sanders.
She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church, was formerly active in the Knox Christian Women's Club and the Knox County Baptist Association and WMU.
She was a retired nursing assistant and was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas A. Lovelace, and her second husband, Ernest Milam.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Connie) Burgess, Knoxville, and Mrs. Vic (June) Jones, Norton; two sons, Tom Lovelace, Draper, Va., and Mike Lovelace; two sisters, Betty Church, Glade Spring, and Bobbie Stamper, Topsail Beach, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Sunday in Knoxville.
