Lucile H. Kendall
PONTE VERDA BEACH, Fla. -- Mrs. Lucile Hayworth Kendall, 86, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Beaches Baptist Hospital, Florida.
She was a native of Bristol Virginia, leaving in 1933. She had lived many places in the United States including Union City, Ind.; Cresson, Altoona and Erie, Pa., Wilmington, Del., Wilmington, N.C., Erwin, Tenn., Louisville and Prospect, Ky., and Ponte Verda Beach.
She was the widow of William H. Kendall and grew up in State Street United Methodist Church, Bristol Virginia. She was a member of Beach United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Fla., and The St. Paul United Methodist Church, Louisville, Ky.
She was a member of the Tower Society, Wesley House and Volunteers Lighthouse for the Blind, Louisville, Ky.
She was a graduate of Virginia High School, attended Virginia Intermont College for two years and received her bachelor's degree from Berea College, where she was on the Board of Trustees and is a trustee Emeritus. She attended George Washington University Graduate School.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Roberta Kendall, Seattle; a son, William Thomas Kendall, Roswell, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Marianne H. Post, Bristol Virginia; a granddaughter; four grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Edna K. Large
Edna K. Large, 88, of 2549 Bay St., Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Cambridge House. She was a native of Knoxville but had spent most of her life in the Bristol area.
She was a graduate of Knoxville High School in 1928, and was a retired employee of H.P. King Company with 35 years of service.
She was a member of Fellowship Chapel Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris Dixon, Bristol Virginia, Linda Rouse,
Johnson City; four sons, Donald Large, Auburn, Ala., David Large and Doug Large, both of Bristol Tennessee, and Dan Large, Acworth, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

TANNERSVILLE, Va. -- Mrs. Jennifer Necessary, 35, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.

Fred E. Osborne
DUNGANNON -- Fred Ellis Osborne, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a native of Scott county, a farmer and a member of Dungannon United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Ruth Keith Osborne.
Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Edwin T. (Ruth) Watts, Mrs. Horace P. (Helen)
Smith and Mrs. Russell (Evelyn) Hawkins, all of Portsmouth, Va.; and two brothers, William L. "Bill" Osborne, Dungannon, and Paul Osborne, Kingsport.

M.R. Quate
GATE CITY -- M.R. "Pete" Quate, 72, of N. Pine St., died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.
He was a native of Roanoke, a graduate of Central High School, Low Moor, Va., and a graduate of Cincinnati College of Embalming, in Cincinnati.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the 6th Marine Division in the South Pacific, Korea and Okinawa, Japan.
He was a member of Friendship Fire House, Alexandria, Va., a 45-year member of the Lions Club, TPA, a member of the American Legion, Richmond, and an honorary member of the Gate City Fire Department in the early 1950s. He was a member of VFW Post No. 3382, Kingsport.
Mr. Quate was an employee of the former McConnell Funeral Home in Gate City, and was a retired mortician with Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, Alexandria, Va. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Rhoton Quate; a brother, Danny Richard Humphries, Richmond; four nieces; and two nephews.

Grace H. Riley
NORTON -- Grace Hollyfield Riley, 78, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital, Norton.
She was a retired school teacher, a Christian and a member of Hamilton Chapel Church, Pound.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Riley, Pound; a daughter, Ellen Riley Cumbow, Abingdon; a son, John S. Riley, Pound; two sisters, Clara Bates, Wise, and Gustava Miller, West Jefferson, N.C.; three brothers, D.B. Hollyfield, Wise, Thurman Hollyfield, Las Cruces, N.M., and Walter Hollyfield, Millington, Tenn; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 22 nieces and nephews.

Mary E. Rosenbalm
Mary Elizabeth Dale Anderson Rosenbalm, 60, of 218 Beech St., Bristol, Va., died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Sneedville, Tenn., moved to Abingdon in 1943, and moved to Bristol in 1945.
She was a former employee of Bristol's Paramount, Cameo and Columbia theaters. She was a well-known country music singer, appearing on Farm & Fun Time and Tennessee Hayride in the 1950s. In 1960 she recorded "Before This Day Ends" that became a Top Ten hit. She appeared on Hee Haw and Ernest Tubb's Midnight Jamboree in the early 1970s.
She was a member of Campbell's Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Rosenbalm; a daughter, Mrs. Brian (Jo) Wolff, Blountville; a son, Mark Rosenbalm, Bristol Virginia; two nephews; and a cousin.

Ethel Harmon Stout, 99, of 112 Moncier Circle, Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in The Cambridge House.
She was a native of Avery County, N.C., and moved to Bristol in 1965. She was a homemaker and a member of West Hills Christian Church. She was the widow of James L. Stout.
Survivors include three daughters, Mildred O'Dell, Bristol Tennessee, Leone Lush, Cross Timbers, Mo., and Betty Corvin, Ferrum, Va.; two brothers, Raymond Harmon, Elizabethton, and Ephraim Harmon, Ohio; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

CHILHOWIE -- Mrs. Glenna Juanita Barnes, 77, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
She was the widow of Jasper C. Barnes.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Blackwell, Chilhowie; a daughter, Nancy Smith, Brunswick, Ohio; two sisters, Francis Stewart, Saltville, and Mary Frye, Cleveland, Tenn.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Owen Branham
RICHMOND -- Owen Branham, formerly of Pound, in Wise County, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999.
He was the Attendance Officer for the Wise County School Board for 27 years and a member of the Lone Pine Free Will Baptist Church, Pound.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Branham; two sons, Larry Branham and James Branham; three daughters, Sue Williams, Phyllis Woodfin and Charlotte Burden; a brother, Hudson Branham; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday in Richmond.
