Sam W. Ross
MARCO ISLAND, Fla. -- Sam W. Ross, 76, formerly of Rogersville, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Naples Community Hospital, in Florida.
He was founder and lifetime member of the Hawkins County Rescue Squad, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and retired from TVA after 30 years of service.
Mr. Ross attended East Rogersville Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Gladys Ross.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Buddy (Donna Ross) Braunlich, Marco Island; a brother, Charles Ross, Bristol Virginia; and a sister, Louise Hughes, Bristol Virginia.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -- Mrs. Irene Harmon Allison Stines, 70, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at her home.
She was a native of Saltville and the widow of her first husband, Candy Allison, Allison Gap, Va.
Survivors include her husband, Jethro Stines; three sons, Brad Allison, Morganton, N.C., Jim Allison, Austinville, Va., and Ralph Allison, Virginia Beach, Va.; four daughters, Carol Powers, Tannersville, Va., Frances Newcomb, Stoneville, N.C., Glenda Bryant, Waveland, Miss., and Polly Puryear, Mocksville, N.C.; a sister, Ortha Turner, Akron, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; five step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

F.L. West, 71, of 1910 Volunteer Parkway, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Marion, had lived in Bristol 37 years, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Electrolux.
Mr. West was a Mason, a Shriner, a member of Victory Baptist Church and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Survivors include his wife, Mae West; a daughter, Judy East, Durham, N.C.; eight sisters, Shirley Moore, Sumter, S.C., Jo Ann Hamm, Port Deposit, Md., Glenna Keyes, Sugar Grove, Va., Doris Sheets, Freda Rotenberry, Rosa Lee Hayes and Deborah Alexander, all of Marion, and Irma Hutton, Wytheville; four brothers, W.C. West and Roger West, both of Marion, Ralph West, Havre de Grace, Md., and Roger West, Sugar Grove; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary F. Whited, 85, of Bristol Virginia, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in NHC Healthcare of Bristol.
She was a native of Belfast, Va., had lived in Bristol since 1973, and was the widow of Fay S. Whited.
She was a retired school teacher, having taught for many years in Russell and Tazewell Counties in Virginia and Summit County, Ohio.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

BLOUNTVILLE -- Bruce Bright, 75, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Holston Valley Hospital.
He was a native of Hiltons and had been a resident of Blountville for the past 41 years.
Mr. Bright retired from Tennessee Eastman Company in 1969, after 26 years of service. He was employed in the Organic Chemicals Department.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and attended Deck Valley Independent Baptist Church, Bristol Tennessee.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Payne Bright; three daughters, Mrs. John (Sidonna) McDougal, Chattanooga, Mrs. Bobby (June) Roller, Blountville, and Mrs. Steve (Tammie) Depew Steadman, Kingsport; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

HONAKER -- Mr. Pearly William Compton, 85, of Route 2, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in an Abingdon hospital.
He was a native of Drill, and a lifelong resident of Russell County. He was a retired farmer and construction worker, and of the Free Will Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Keen, Mount Gilead, Ohio, and Trula Morgan, Swords Creek; a brother, Nelson Compton, Honaker; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT -- Nora Lee Cox, 85, of 2057 Welch Road, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Brookhaven Nursing Home.
She was a native of Wise and a homemaker.

(Edith "EJ") Perry, Mrs. Earl "Bud" (Linda) Waterman, and Mrs. Dennis (Shirley Lois) Bunn, all of Kingsport; two sons, Bascom "Sonny" Cox, Kingsport, and Allen Cox, Mobile, Ala.; six sisters, Opal Stallard, Abingdon, Rita Stallard, Roanoke, Odra Collins, Reba Collins, Lorene McCarthy and Macel Hubbard, all of Wise; two brothers, Nola Stanley and Eugene Stanley, both of Wise; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith and the widow of William W. Crosswhite.

He was a native of Russell County, a U.S. Army veteran, and a retired employee of Clinch River Quarry. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, St. Paul.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth E. Dale; a son, Harry Lee Dale Jr., Bristol Virginia; two stepdaughters, Nancy Meade, St. Paul, and Neva Jo, St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Beulah Bradley, Castlewood, Mary Million, North Carolina, and Kate Hurd, Damascus; a brother, Luther Dale, North Carolina; two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
